move after being stranded in pennsylvania for about 24 hours. presidential candidates try to cement support across the state today, as the iowa caucuses draw near. and 8 overnight stops... 420 miles. this year's ragbrai overnights are announced in des moines. you're watching kcrg-tv9. now, from your 24 hour news source, this is kcrg-tv9 news at 10 . a group of eastern iowans was stranded in a massive winter storm in the eastern u-s, but they're on their way home right now. the dubuque county right to life group got stuck on the pennsylvania turnpike, east of pittsburgh, around 8:20 last night. about 200 people from the group were traveling back to dubuque county, following a right to life march in washington, d-c. members of the pro-life group tell tv-9 their five-bus convoy is now on the move. while they were stranded,

dubuque county right to life - along with others - held an impromptu mass along the roadway. 20:03:42 "there's several other groups who were also on the march for life, we went out on a big pile of snow and made an alter of snow, we probably had 300 people around us for mass. it was unbelievable." much of the east coast is still at a standstill after a blizzard slammed into the area. areas around washington, d.c. have received more than 30 inches. the heaviest unofficial report is 40 inches in rural west virginia. the storm also shut down new york, where the normally busy streets around landmarks are mostly empty. there have been at least 18 storm-related deaths, resulting from car collisions, shoveling snow, and

democratic side. for florida senator rubio, the editorial board said he "has the potential to chart a new direction for the party, and perhaps the nation, with his message of restoring the american dream." as for former secretary of state clinton, the board said "democrats have one outstanding candidate deserving of their support: hillary clinton. no other candidate can match the depth or breadth of her knowledge and experience." texas senator ted cruz made an appearance with conservative talk show host glenn beck. the two spoke in ankeny this afternoon before making a campaign stop in waterloo tonight. cruz said iowans have a big responsibility on caucus night. donald trump is again drawing criticism for comments he made, this time...about what he could get away with and still be a top g-o-p contender. today, he spoke with caucus-goers in sioux center. he bragged about the dedication of his supporters, saying nothing could make them change their minds about voting for him. "the people - my people are so smart. and you know what else they say about my people - the polls! they say i have the most loyal people. did you ever see that? where i could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldn't lose any voters okay? it's like incredible " vermont senator bernie sanders took his campaign to maquoketa tonight. he held a town-hall meeting at a packed conference room the centerstone inn and suites. he attacked clinton over recent polls before touching on some of his campaign topics. alliant energy has triggered similar power outages in nearby palo and shellsburg in recent years to work on transformers. it's a big night for ragbrai riders. the overnight stops for ragbrai 2016 were announced just within the last hour in des moines. this year's route starts in glenwood... then it's a stop in shenandoah... over to creston... then the small town of leon. after that, riders will head to centerville... then ottumwa... and rounding out the last two stops are washington... and muscatine. the des moines register says cyclists will pedal a total of about 420 miles from start to finish. that's the third- shortest ride in the event's 44-year history. the week-long event begins july 23rd and wraps when riders dip their tires in the mississippi river on july 30th. hundreds of eastern iowa students came together tonight for an annual concert in

... 10 records were broken valley conference boys swim meet... john campbell has more from iowa city. welcome to an afternoon at the record store. 200 yard free style and iowa city west's aiden keen won the event and broke his own record to boot. after his appearance in si last week, si's will scott atop the podium for the 50 free. yes he broke the meet record. this is dubuque senior's jon colin teeing off in the 100 fly. the record in this event was set in 1969. 1969! by a swimmer from rock island. it fell today as coling edged iowa city west's oliver martin. i want to get that record down before coach retires. it feels good to get the record. iowa city west's mark mcglaughlin was victorious in the 100 free and 100 back. it has a good feel to it. nice and bright. deep. yes, it is a pretty fast pool. wash's 200 free relay picked up gold as did cameron kelly in the 500 free. but depth and the power rod were the winning ingredients for dubuque senior. the rams edging out iowa city west 350-340 for the second year in a row. john campbell tv9 sports. ... college wrestling, coe

impress the nfl scouts on team american... closing seconds of the first quarter, trevone boykin is sacked by iowa state's dale pierson... he had 8.5 sacks for the cyclones this season which tied a school record ... also playing in this game, uni's makiton dorleant... one thing that could help him is he does return punts... gets about five yards on that return ... former uni wide receiver terrell sinkfield has singed with the minnesota vikings to a reserve/futur e contract. he recently spent time in the canadian football league with toronto and hamilton. he finished with 1,097 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career at uni. thanks josh. and now to first alert storm
