a man who a cedar rapids police officer shot yesterday that they're hopeful he'll slowly improve. jerime mitchell, who is 37, remains in critical condition at university of iowa hospitals. police say he got into some kind of altercation with an officer early yesterday morning on coe road northeast. that caused the officer to fire his or her weapon,

of criminal investigation is looking into the shooting. police say there's dash cam video, which is one of the things the d-c-i is reviewing. president obama says the u-s army corps of engineers is looking into whether the company building the bakken oil pipeline can re-route a portion of it in north dakota. the president says the move could alleviate some of the concerns of the standing rock sioux native american tribe. ongoing the construction of the pipeline. the tribe fears the pipeline will threaten drinking water and destroy sacred sites. the texas company, dakota access, is building the pipeline from north dakota to illinois, with part of it going through iowa. it say it's not aware of any plans for a new route in north dakota. and it says it's confident it will get permission to finish building the pipeline according to the original plan. coming up next in sports, scott will have his weekly conversation with iowa coach kirk ferentz. and the hawkeyes bring back

on one with iowa coach kirk ferentz as the hawks get ready for a trip to happy valley. tough challenge against penn state they have one of the best running backs in the country in the quarterback mcsorley can run or pass any and he isn't right kid. the running back is tremendous the quarterbacks is a catalyst for them because he can't just your point he can throw it he can pull down run it they run options with them so if you load up on the running back you're gonna be in trouble and they also have very talented tight end and that has been a favorite target too so they really make you play good team defense to keep a running back in check it out take your great effort from all of us. defensively they're coming on they are ranked second in the big ten in sacks that to be concern? it is they are very are aggressive and athletic up front imagine that. ithey are very aggressive so we have to try to do good job there and try to neutralize that a little bit maybe we get some raining natural grass over they are a really a good football have to

long-suffering indians and the even longer-suffering chicago cubs. what a year for the city of cleveland. they host the world series, won an nba title, got to see chachi speak at the republican national convention. incredible. we don't know the outcome of the game but we will by the time you're watching this at home. so just to cover my bases i'd like to say either congratulations or i'm sorry to the cubs or indians on their big victory or devastating loss, whichever that may be. [ cheers and applause ] this is going to be the highest-rated baseball game in many, many years. people all over are very interested to see the cubs go from being a team that hasn't won a world series in 108 years to being a team that won one time in 1 108 years. which sounds worse but fans in chicago have been on an emotional roller coaster, especially ryan slagle. he was on the local news watching his cubs beat the
