bye. at five,a crash here in iowa put the brakes on a presidential campaign. we'll gegeto that story in a moment, but first, another frightening event prompted an evacuation today in iowa city. after five hours of investigation, officials gave the all clear at west high school thihiafternoon. cbs 2 news reporter mellaney moore has been following the story all day and joins us live from the school, mellaney? we areere at the g gnasium entrance.this is whererethe school reopened to students and the public at 3:00 after being closed and inspected by police. police.the call from iowa city police warning of a bomb threat came inint 8:45 this morning.west high's principal says iowa city police sent officers with k-9 units right away.because of the cold temperatures, students evacuated to the university of

street. the witness reported seeing a man wearing all black with a bag in his hand leaving the bank with what they thought was a gun. police quickly found their suspect - 30- year-old clifton brinkmeyer. brinkmeyer was not far from the crime scene.he was carrying a fake plastic gun. he is now being held in the charges. now let's check in with chief meteorologist terry swails who tells me there's a snow system in the midwest, but what does that mean for us, terry? a minor disturbance will cross the region tonight. light snow or flurries will develop early amounts will be very light with most areas seeing less than 1" of new snow. however, areas near and south of i-80 could see 1 to 1.5" totals. temperatures will warm into the 20s later this week with through the weekend.tomorrow: mostly cloudy early. becoming partlyloudy in the 20-25 north to south. wind: s

slslk roads to our west stopped a presidential campaign today. doctor ben carson cancelled his events today to visit with a campaign volunteer injured in an iowa car accident. his campaign says a van transporting three volunteers and a staffer was driving near

of ice d flipped onto its side. that's w wn another vehicle driving by crashed into the van. one of the volunteers was taken to the trauma center at the university of nebraska medical center in omaha. doctor carson went to o oha today to be with the volunteer's family. governor terry branstad is asking iowans to pull their support from republican presidential candidate ted cruz. branstad called for his defeat today - saying cruz is a big oil candidate who would damage the industry in iowa. the governor says cruz is anti- renewable fuel - meaning he would hurt the ethanol, biodiesel and wind energy industries. he says if cruz is elected, it uld cost the state both jobs and farm income. happening now - cruz and republican front runner donald trump are targeting each other in campaign stops. the two rivals are in a tight race for the lead in here in iowa. trump is touring the western part of the state today - with

afternoon from former vice- presidential candidate sarah palin. cruz is focusing more of his attention on new currently tailing the billionaire. democratic presidential hopeful bernie sanders is trying to build on a burst of momentum in his campaign in the hawkeye state. with less s an two weeks to o before iowans chose whom they support, the vermont senator is kicking off a four-stop swing through iowa. polls show sanders appears to have an edge over rival hillary clinton in new hampshire and is neck-and-neck with her among voters here.clinton is also scheduled to visit iowa amid the increasingly heated contest. she has an iowa city event thursday night at the iowa memorial l union - where she'll be endorsed d pop singer demi lovato. less than two weeks away - presidential candidates are making the final push before the caucuses.that means more crowds in restaurants and more overnight stays. stays.cbs 2 news reporter steffi lee leebrings us some numbers to show what being first in the

country. the supreme court has agreed to hear the obama administration's arguement that the president has the policy without congress. cbs 2 news anchorcott saorn breaks down this heated immigration debate, scott? scott?karen - president obama's plan would shield more than 4-million undocumented immigrants from deportation. 26 states, all led by against the plan. the u-s court of appeals upheld the states' protests and now the white house is appealing that ruling. the president's plan protects illegal immigrants brought to the country as children from deportation. his added steps would also keep safe the parents of children born in the u-s. obama says this will help parents who have lived in the country for years--and can pass a background check--keep their families together. it would also make them eligible for work permits, health care, disability and retirement benefits. benefits.the supreme court
