((sharie johnson)) > metro police are at the scene of a deadly shooting involving a police officer near desert inn and cimarron roads. the shooting occurred on gilded crown court around 2 p.m. according to metro, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. police went to the address at the request of u.s. marshals for assistance with a wanted suspect, metro police said. there are no reported injuries to officers. sharie... the other big story of the day of course... it's new year's eve. in dubai... things got off to a rough start... when a fire consumed a 63- story luxury hotel. one person died of a heart attack during evacuations... 14 others were injured. no word on what caused the fire. ((paula francis)) despite the flames... new years celebrations went on, with fireworks shot off nearby the fire, from the world's tallest building... which is just blocks away from the burning hotel.

first off will be the i-15 interchanges at spring mountain flamingo and tropicana. metro should begin clearing the strip in the next half hour to 45 minutes. the plan is to clear the strip and have it open by 6:30pm for the hundreds of thousands of reveled who will begin the new year right herein our valley. everyone seems to be minding their manners at this time... but things will get crazier as the night progresses. right now you are dealing with traffic on your surface streets.... people are making their way into grocery stores and liquor stores for the last minute celebration items. i will be out here all night on the strip guiding you through it all....
((dave courvoisier)) > w'ere hours away from the new year. new year. and the las vegas strip is minutes away from opening the main road to hundreds of thousands of people ready to party. 8 news now's mauricio marin is live with the latest on road closures and security measures. ((mauricio marin)) the fun is coming alive for new year's eve on the las vegas strip. in just hours the fireworks will be going off over the strip. the sidewalks are crowded out here. and in a few minutes police will be letting people onto the boulevard itself to ring in 2016.
road closures are now in effect for the rest of the night as more than 330- thousand people are expected to celebrate on the strip and downtown. right now---barriers have been set up. freeway exit ramps onto the strip from interstate 15 are closed off. now police are in the process of turning off moving walkways, elevators and escalators on the strip. in the next half hour---metro police should be letting people pour onto las vegas boulevard from sidewalks here on the strip. as people get ready to celebrate...they 're already looking forward to the best in 20-16.
