capping off with some serious weather. you're looking at video of some snowfall near lee canyon and mount charleston. vonny sent us this video. and check out this video of central las vegas getting slammed with rain. we have been tracking this storm all day with team coverage. mauricio marin is at u-s 95 and kyle canyon with a look at what travelers on the road can expect. but first lets get right to meteorologist tony smith with how this storm system is shaping up... ((tony smith)) for tonight showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then showers likely. low around 44. breezy, with a southwest wind 17 to 23 mph becoming west northwest after midnight. winds could gust as high as 34 mph. chance of precipitation is 80%. -------------------------- wind advisory in effect from 10 pm this evening to 6 pm pst monday... the national weather service in las vegas has issued a wind advisory...which is in effect from 10 pm this evening to 6 pm pst monday. timing...winds will increase late this evening and continue through monday afternoon. winds...northwe st 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph on
will create difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles. briefly lowered visibilities in blowing sand and dust...especiall y near dry lake beds. precautionary/p reparedness actions... use caution when driving during high winds. take action to secure loose or lightweight outdoor objects. ((mauricio marin)) just about every part of the valley had rain falling in the area. it's calmed down a bit. but the wet weather did leave it's footprint. heading up the mountain...they' re seeing some fresh snow. this is what it looked like on many roads across southern nevada. wet sleek roads with rain falling down. alot of drivers slowing down to avoid crashes. we saw a few minor accidents driving around the valley with nevada highway patrol troopers responding. but so far---no reports of any major crashes.
evening authortiies want to remind drivers to slow down. we've recieved reports of lightning hitting a tree at the las vegas country club. another factor out there on the roads is the wind. so be careful behind the wheel. if you're heading up mount charleston...kn ow that chains or 4-wheel drive is required to get up the mountain. they've been getting fresh snow up there. over near the airport...freewa y signs are warning drivers about standing water on a portion of the road. as far as air travel...looks like mccarran is seeing some delays because flights coming in from other areas are dealing with low clouds. the mountain that got snow. but with more expected to fall...it could take some time before the snow chains and four wheel drive requirement is lifted. once we hear from authorities about that we'll be sure to pass along the information. back to you./// ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) > and all day our viewers have been sharing some incredible weather snapshots and video. -here's some great shots rainfall all around the valley... you can see rain pounding this neighborhood.... and for the most part locals are loving it....... with the exception of some who were planning some outdoor activities this afternoon./// ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) > a second virginia tech student has been arrested in connection to the death of a 13-year-old girl who went missing last week. today virginia tech confirmed the arrest of sophomore natalie marie keepers. keepers is the second person to be arrested in the death of nicole madison lovell, whose body was found in north carolina on saturday. she has been missing from her
middle of last week. police earlier arrested 18 year old david eisenhauer... another virginia tech student, and charged him with murder in the case./// ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) > one month into the new year... and it's already been a deadly start on our roads. so far, 20- people have died in a traffic related crash in clark county. that's 5 more than the where we were this time last year. the latest deadly crash... happened just this morning. 8 news now reporter michael stevens was there and broke down the numbers: the roads are back open again at the intersection of camino al norte and lone mountain... after north las vegas police had them closed while investigating their third traffic related death of the year. police say this latest accident happened after a 44-year old man hoped off bus just before 8-this morning... crossed in- front of it... and ultimately blindsided by another car. he was taken to u-m-c... but died... while the driver of the car who hit him cooperated with police. while this is one of the latest
it's not the only one. ((louis chaney // lives in the area: it's tragic. it's terrible.)) in the early morning hours wednesday... a woman's life was cut short. after a man driving a g-m-c yukon alluded police t-boning the woman's car near spring mountain and rainbow. ((sgt. richard strader // metro police: this guy was running because he was scared.)) ((sgt. richard strader // metro police: this individual made the decision to be a menace to society running red lights and cause this crash here on the interestion.)) ... this was the 9th traffic related death in metro's jurisdiction. but the 10th came only two days later near pecos and owens. ((cameron collins // witness: i seen headlights out of the corner of my eye and uh, you know... i heard a big loud boom and then i didn't see headlights anymore ran outside and seen a bunch of smoke in the air. )) the smoke was coming from a mazda -- police say was going too fast... and lost control. the driver of that car also died at the hospital. number if you take the average of 10 a month.)) henderson has seen one death this year... while the nevada highway patrol has responded to 6 of their own -- and we're only in the first month of the year. north las vegas passed away today. north las vegas fire departement says the fire started yesterday morning near belmont and carey avenue. fire fighters were able to put it out pretty quickly. the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical conditon...wher e he later died. so far no word yet on the case of death.//
