voice over: "from 8 news now this is sports with chris maathuis. > ((ron futrell)) the nfl sent out a memo today that keeps the door open for the oakland raiders to move to las vegas ---- what's most important here is
what the memo did not say. it did not rule out the possiblity of a move by the raiders to las vegas --- it just basically told the teams how to respond if questioned. raiders owner mark davis met with sands owner sheldon adleson last week--- they talked about a new billion dollar stadium that is being proposed near unlv. adelson says he wants to build the stadium whether the raiders move or not. the most imporatant line in todays nfl memo said , quote "there is no prohibition under league rules on a team moving to any particular city." end quote. there is also a reminder in there that 3/4ths of the leagues
but --- that didn't stop the raiders in the past when al davis moved them to la --- not sure if mark davis would go rogue on this. earlier today --- chris maathuis spoke with the mayor of oakland about the possibliity of the raiders move to las vegas. ((question: did mark say anything about his visit to las vegas? answer: no i have not talked to him about his visit to las vegas. question: were you susprised that he went there, met with adleson? answer: no, no im not listen the raiders have an incredible brand, they have fans all over the world. they obviously have lots of options. but it's my job as the mayor of oakland to stay focused on putting our best foot forward and really convincing them that we have something that nowhere else has, and that the most committed fan base that they will ever find. )) the bad news for the rebels on saturday has gotten worse tonight --- ben carter will be out for the season with a torn acl this was the scene at the thomas
midway through the first half --- he was going for a rebound and twisted his left knee. he was down on the court for 3 or 4 minuites --- in a lot of pain --- the crowd went silent and eventually carter had to be helped off the court. initially they thought it was a sprained knee --- but from the start this looked more serious. the mri this morning confirmed the worst. carter is a junior --- or course he played here in town at bishop gorman. the rebels will miss his toughness inside and his rebounding. in the statement from unlv was no mention of surgery for carter --- the rebels hit the road for games tomorrow at new mexico and saturday at fresno st. dave courvoisier > thanks for watching for 8 news now at 6.
