afternoon... a person was shot and killed in broad daylight near rainbow and westcliff. a shopping center was taped off for much of the day as police investigated. in both cases... police are still looking for suspects./// ((dave courvoisier)) the latest death, though, was the result of a crash. tonight... 8 news now reporter karen castro is live at the scene where a man was killed while waiting at a bus stop. she talked with a witness... who captured footage of the gruesome aftermath. karen? ((karen castro)) the witness was passing by and saw the crash at the bus stop. she tells me she stopped because she was recently involved in a crash with an r-t-c bus. in fact, she's recovering from neck surgery. and while she couldn't physically help the victim, she got her cell phone out and started recording. crash at the bus stop. she tells me she stopped because she was recently involved in a crash with an r-t-c bus. in fact, she's recovering from neck surgery. and while she couldn't physically help the victim, she got her cell phone out and started recording. ((karen castro)) frantic moments after a man is hit by a car while waiting at a bus stop on his electric wheelchair. a witness, who does not want to be identified, captured the gruesome scene on cell phone video. ((witness: his hand wasn't even moving and just, he was just minding his own business.)) ((karen castro)) metro police say at around 1-30 thursday afternoon...a car driving east on lake mead near rancho... hit the median... causing the two left tires to deflate. the vehicle then crossed over to the westbound lanes. jumped the curb... striking the victim. (( i'm not getting nothing.)) ((karen castro)) a bystander is seen doing chest compressions on the man... meanwhile the driver is sitting inside her car before stepping out with c-d's in her hand. we're blurring her face until

investigation... but she appeared to be in shock. (( how did you get across the thing? you have no idea? are you high? (no ma'am) no? so you don't know how you came over here? did you go to sleep?)) ((karen castro)) the witness says she wanted to get as much video evidence as possible because she would have liked for someone to have done the same when she was in a wreck a few months ago. ((witness: now it's just my word against the bus company, where nobody was there for me.)) ((karen castro)) the witness says she was rear ended by an r-t-c bus... and is now using a walker post neck surgery. but that didn't stop her from trying to help. ((witness: i'm sorry, i wish i could of did more. come on sir! hey sir! hello? witness: to me felt like i did something and hopefully he heard my voice.)) ((paula francis)) > a funeral is set for tomorrow... for the spokesman of the armed group that took over a wildlife refuge in oregon. robert "lavoy" finicum was fatally shot by fbi agents on january 26-th. 8 news now will have a crew at the funeral... and we'll have live coverage in tomorrow's newscasts. meanwhile... 16 of the armed protesters are facing charges for the standoff. ammon and ryan bundy were part of the indictment that was made public today... they're the sons of nevada rancher cliven bundy. today... ammon bundy made a statement from behind bars.. defending the takeover: ((ammon bundy, protest leader: "the results of government officials ignoring the people, are acts like the takeover of the malheur refuge. taking over the refuge was not only right, it was the duty of the people to do." ))

says conservation is a major part of their mission. their website says 70 percent of the money raised at the las vegas convention... goes toward conservation efforts by the group worldwide... something s-c-i member bill racine says he is proud of. ((bill racine/sci lifetime member: "a lot of that money goes for conservation, and helping keep those wildlife animals coming over there.")) ((patrick walker)) the humane society international disagrees... citing a 2012 study by eco resources at large. it concluded only 3 percent of money spent on trophy hunts make it to the communities. s-c-i declined an interview request from 8 news now... but released a statement saying it quote "does much more for the conservation of habitat than many of the misguided policies that these protesters would like to see supported." patrick walker... 8 news now. the goal is to provide service members with realistic scenarios and help them maintain a high level of fleet readiness. military leaders say these exercises prepare pilots for real combat. dealing with another night of closures... all thanks to the latest "jason bourne" movie. the boulevard going northbound is closed between sahara and convention center drive... as film crews work to get the perfect shot. they've been filming here in town since the middle of last month. we've seen some pretty wild car chases being filmed so far... and we might see some of these scenes when a trailer for the new movie is expected to debut during the super bowl./// ((paula francis)) > metro police are using this weekend's big game... to get out a serious message: (( whether your team is the broncos or panthers this weekend, keep your animal instincts in check. slow down, stay alert, and most importantly don't drink and drive. )) ((paula francis)) metro isn't the only agency promoting safety over the super bowl weekend. nevada highway patrol also wants to make sure you stay safe. they remind everyone not to drink and drive... you should always have a designated driver... or call a taxi or ride- sharing service.. or, get a hotel room.
