((paula francis)) > nevada's "first in the west" caucuses could be in jeopardy. we're digging into the problems that could cost our state its special standing in the presidential selection process. ((paula francis)) and i'm paula francis. metro is shutting down the area near valley view and desert inn right now. police say a man was shot and killed there just before 3-30 this afternoon. ((dave courvoisier)) the suspect is still at large.. but police have not given us a description of who they are

((paula francis)) the candidates have been rallying support here in town... and throughout the silver state... as the nation watches. we're the first western state to hold our caucus. ((dave courvoisier)) we are your local election headquarters.. with live team coverage of tonight's caucus and campaign events. we'll check in with patrick walker at the trump campaign in a moment, but we first want to get out to karen castro... who is at the polling site at coronado high school. karen? ((karen castro)) > the caucus will be taking place inside the school cafeteria. volunteers have been busy for the past hour getting everything ready ahead of the caucus. coronado high school is expected to be a busy location tonight. in fact, voters started lining up about 45 minutes ago. we did speak to a woman who showed up two hours early. here's what she had to say about

in what he expects to be a victory speech. he is the overwhelming favorite to win in the latest cnn/orc nevada poll. trump was in northern nevada earlier today... holding a rally in sparks. his focus in both today's rally and last night's in las vegas... fell heavily on just a few topics: isis... mexico and immigration... and ted cruz. and... like last night... trump implored supporters to get out and caucus. but... he warned them to be cautious... on the look out for anything suspicious. ((donald trump/(r) presidential candidate: (.34) and watch out for dishonest stuff, because i'll tell you what, there's a bunch of dishonesty with this, you've just got to be careful (.44), paper ballots, they have the whole deal going, paper ballots and the whole thing, so just watch out, if you see anything, just let us know." 0.50)) ((patrick walker)) the republicans here use a paper ballot system at their caucus sites. the g-o-p released a statement this afternoon... saying ballot counting will be an open process and anyone is free to watch. ((dave courvoisier)) > florida senator marco rubio sat down one on one with 8 news now earlier today.. to talk about his final push before the caucus. the senator spoke to supporters inside the silveraton casino.. saying he is eager to see tonight's results because he believes jeb bush dropping out will allow him to pick up some more delegates. he also said he is not worried about the front runner, donald trump: (( sen. marco rubio: that means 65 to 70 percent of republicans are not voting for donald trump when you

at 5.")) > ((paula francis)) > this past week we learned of 2 childcare providers here in the valley who were arrested in cases of abuse. one child died, the other was critically injured. ((dave courvoisier)) these investigations put a new spotlight on safety at daycare facilities, especially those not licensed. patranya bhoolsuwan is here with what parents need to know before leaving their kids in someone else's care. right now there are nearly 500 licensed child care facilities

if these places are regulated, parents still need to be extra careful and always ask the right questions: the top 3: 1) are all the staff background checked? 2) is the facility regularly inspected by the state? 3) what kind of training do employees have? and that's just the start: < ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) shantelle lorraine has 4 boys under 10...and finding them the right daycare has not always been easy especially, given recent local cases of child abuse. before their home was set on fire. it happened in phoenix early this morning. police have not specified the relationships of those involved... but did say the shooter was the brother or son of the victims... and he is dead. firefighters said someone was shooting at them from the second story as they were trying to rescue people inside. an officer was the only other person hurt... and was treated for smoke inhalation./// ((paula francis)) > president obama announced today...he has a plan to close the detention center at guantanamo bay... fulfilling a promise he made when he was running in 2008. there are 91 detainees still at the facility. but a third of them have been cleared for transfers to other countries.
