this morning denver 7 is folllwing breaking thinks in denver. firefighters battling the aftermath of a fire. the flames have spread to two homes and possibly two nearby vehiiles. >> lindsay watts is just arriving on the scene. >> reporter: the good news is that this fire is now contained and firefighters say that everybody is safe and accounted for. i'm going to get out of the way so you can take a look at the damage done by this fire. this home burned as well as it. denver fire says that the couple who lives here has a hot air balloon business and that
that exploded this morning. again that couple was able to get out safely. not only was their house burned but take a look at house next door to theirs. it also caught fire and suffered some damage. just to give you an idea of how strong this explosion was, i noticed this burned propane tank across the street on the %- ground there. i have been speaking to people that live in this area. there is a lot that have come out to see what is going on. they say after this explosion happened, even blocks away, they felt their homes shake. this was again a very serious fire and thankfully nobody got hurt this morning. we are live in denver lindsay watts, denver 7. >> thank you. and of course our director andy lives in that area. he says his wife heard it, saw it. that will be something. >> it's pretty intense. >> good morning, to you imeric lupher. >> and i'm dayle cedars. the huge snowstorm that is
we were talking about this how the weather channel and everyone is starting to name snowstorms. here in colorado what are we going to name this guy? i don't know. if you have an idea at home, you can tweet us. send it to us on facebook. we're curious as to what will call the storm that is moving in. or the set of storms. looking at copper mountain nice and quiet right now. lifts are not running just yet but they are in for great snow. if you are up there, stay there. enjoy the next couple of days because here's where the snow is moving in. right now satelliie and radar shows a little bit of snow in the high country but most of what we are seeing statewide is just clouds. that will change as the day goes on and we do have a lot of alerts in place. we've got blizzard warnings and winter storm advisories and watches. we will keep a close eye on this system over the next couple of days as it moves on in. today however especially in the metro area, get ready for
yesterday was gorgeous. today very similar. up in the high country right now temperatures are starting off just about freezing if not slightly above. in denver we're at 37 degrees. greeley a little colder for you. you are starting off at 27. and lineman you were there in the 20s. look at this warmup. as we look at the day, it's unbelievable. by 2:00 54 degrees. we will warm into the low 60s in that early afternoon time frame. by 5:00 cooling things down. however, we do have the chance ffr some clouds to move in even a chance par little rain and snow here in the metro area today. majority of it in the high country but there is that possibility. we will really break down the future cast hour by hour and show you how the system will move in. >> and as the snow moves in

has pulled several people over. this is about 45 minutes east of colorado springs. we're told he is driving a green cheep cherokee with a red light on top. if you see him or know anything, you are asked to call the sheriffs office. take a good look at your screen. his name is jeremy rich. he was last seen leaving work at a ups facility at dia. shhriff office says jeremy is an avid snow border known to frequent the jones pass area but so far searchers have not found anything there. he drives a gray 2000 toyota pickup truck with license plate 165tpx. if you have seen hill or his truck, you are asked to contact the sheriffs office. evans man is in jail charged in the death of a baby. eeward burden was arrested yesterday. the baby was take ton children's hospital on january
the child at the time but it's not clear if the two were related. denver police hoping their efforts to build relationships them find a murder. take a good look here. police are look for a man, person of interest in the killing of 28-year-old varnell jenn kick. he was shot and killed last saturday near a bus top. officers for ticket five held their officer roll call meeting near the spot where jenkins was killed. >> they work and come and go in this area. we feel like these people have seen this individual before. know where they are. have seen them before, may see them again. >> surveillance vvdeo from a local business shows someone running through the parking lot after the shooting. officers handed out fliers to nearby businesses. the search continues for the second suspect in the shooting of a jefferson county sheriffs deputy.

welcome back everyone. you can see clouds out there. we will see a little mix of sun and clouds throughout the midday today. and ten we will see changes rolling in. we are talking about a major snow maker moving into colorado. we'll take a look, break it down hour by hour and show you what you can expect. but right now new developments in the hillary clinton e-mail scandal. this morning we have learned there is confirmation that several of the e-mails sent from her unsecured home server did contain classified information. the state department says 22 of those e-mails are deemed top secret and says it will not release them along with tens of thousands of others. this revelation comes two days ahead of the iowa caucuses. clinton has a three-point lead over bernie sanders in iowa. right now the search continues for two of three
southern california jail last week. one of those inmates is back in custody this morning after turning himself in yesterday. now police are lookkng for the other two who they believe are headed to fresno. teacher at the jail was arrested on thursday for allegedly helping the inmates escape. this morning three men in the oregon ranching standoff are still in jail and a federal judge is keeping it that way for now. the judge denied bail for bundy, his brother, and another man. the community. 7:14 now. still to come as we look forward to the super bowl coming up, how about getting an autograph from broncos legends. how you can do that today. first though big storm coming through. >> it's a major snowstorm moving through. as you look at our satellite and radar it doesn't look that bad. but you just look off to the
%- high country to enjoy the fresh snow that will be heading your way, this is what you've got to run into first. `-d.o.t. reporting 85 minutes right now eisenhower tunnel. so just give yourself a lot of patience today but i'll tell you what, it will be worth it once you get up to the mown tapes because we got fresh snow yesterday and a lot more heading that way. but right now here's another reminder of the dangers of winter. this one out of british columbia. five people there are dead after they got trapped in an avalanche near mcbride. the five were part of three separate groups of snow mobilers.
very large. take a look at this rain causing big problems in oregon. not one but two sink holes opened up in the town of harbor. one sink hole already swallowed it's huge. and an entire parking lot. from one extreme to the other. too much moisture to not enough. back here at home a fire in louisville, dry grass helped school. the fire burned five aches before it was put out. besides the burned grass there was no damage. but it's a reminder it's still pretty dry. which is why it will be great to see the snow moving in. we definitely need the moisture in the metro area. we really haven't had a good snowfall in quite some time. so it's time for us to see one. let's take you through this. if you look outside in denver, this is the camera on sports
looks pretty nice; right? yes, we do have clouds out there. we'll sea a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. and those will begin to fill in. looking at our current temperatures. 37 at city park. evergreen a little warm there. 43 for you. 45 down in castle rock. and greeley cooler at 27- degrees. spanning this out into the state you can see 30s out on the eastern plain. lamar you're at 26. very warm afternoon. craig you are starting off at 42 degrees. where do we go from here? we will see those temperatures climb nicely. into the low 60s into the early afternoon hours. and yes, we will see some clouds and some rain and a little bit of snow. and then look at those temperatures drop early tomorrow morning. it will be quite a bit colder. we basically will cut these temperatures in half. almost tomorrow. so our highs today nice. enjoy it if you like the warm weather. remember how i told you lamar is going to warm nicely? 73-degrees is where they are going to run.
well as here in denver. 52 in fort collins. greeley doesn't look like we will get out of those 40s. craig 40. eagle 42. and a rest of the mountain towns in the 30s. the snow will move into the mountains and really stay there through the day today. later this evening however, we do have a chance for some rain showers right across i-25 and into the northeast corner. that southeast corner where the temperatures will be so warm, they will stay dry today. and over night tonight we will see the chance far little bit of snow. not a major snow maker for us with this first little system ha will move through. and then we get a break. as we fast forward through early tomorrow morning, you will notice not a lot of snow for the metro area. southwest corner of the state will start picking up even more snow tomorrow. still dry in that southeast -`corner. that will change as the day moves on sunday. and you can see there is the snow moving into denver.
pretty much where it will stay and it will continue through monday morning. here's what it looks like at 7:00 a.m.. as far as school closures you know the kids and teachers are already asking about it. monday we'll be watching it closely for possibility of delays. it may e tuesday that we'll have the better chance. look at how the snow really begins to accumulate. by early tomorrow morning, not a lot for the metro area. just a little bit. but then we will start to see it pick up sunday night into monday and look at these numbers go. 8:00 a.m. on monday morning you can see a little over two inches. and then did you see that? yeah. showing 9 inches. that is by late monday night into tuesday morning. and that snow will continue even more as we head into tuesday before it does taper off. so we're calling for about 6-12 inches of snow across the front range. obviously that is a big difference.
lot of snow in many locations. you just immediate to know monday commutes will be slow. tuesday morning commutes will be slow. if you are in the mountains coming back on sunday, give yourself extra time because the roads will be nice and icy. >> that will jump start your february. >> it will. which will be great to see. we need the snow. we will be tracking it very closely here. first alert weather we have someone on staff. right now putttng the final touches on the amazing creations. the sculptors have worked through the night. they will have to put down their tools at 10:00 a.m. and awards are taking place at 2:00 this afternoon. video of last years creations are pretty cool. the sculptures remain on display until february 7th.

an explosion wakes a denver neighborhood. a fire damages two homms and nearby vehicles. >> we have lindsay watts there with the latest. lindsay. >> reporter: eric and dayle, this is in the ruby hill neighborhood. this was just a massive fire that broke out after 6:00 this morning. the most important thing is
take a look at this home that caught fire. it has been destroyed. firefighters say that the couple who lives here has a hot air balloon business. they had propane tanks and a vehicle in front of their home. something caused those tanks to explode. and neighbors even those who live several blocks away say they felt that explosion when it happened. their homes shook. not only did this house burn and several vehicles but the home next door was also impacted. i'm here now with a neighbor diego rivera. diego, if you could
come over this way. let's play this video you got. right after this fire started burning. you can get a sense of how big this was. diego, what was going through your mind when you walked outside and saw this. >> hopefully that everyone is safe. >> reporter: i know you said that. you were sleeping when this happened.
what did he experience? >> well he just told me he felt a big tremor. he felt the house shake. -`he thought it was a big explosion near the house. so we just came and looked over -- we just came running and hopefully everybody is okay. >> reporter: thank you very much for sharing that video with us. i appreciate it. again, everybody was able to get out safely. two people a person that lives in the first house that caught fire and the neighbor period of times say were taken to the hospital. but just really as a precaution with minor injuries. and the good news this morning

if you were outside you enjoyed it. today similar day. up in the mountains it's a little quiet. however that will begin to pick up. today which you will notice some windy conditions up in the high country. breezy down here but nothing to complain about at this time. statewide this is the quiet and the lull before that storm begins to move in. look at all of these alerts we are dealing with off to the west. we have winter weather warnings, advisories, and watches in place. we are looking for more than a foot of snow in some of the mountain towns. `t will be a pretty impressive snowfall for us. in the will metro area 37 degrees in denver. 36 in fort collins. greeley in the upper 20s. we have temps in the high country right about that freezing point. pretty nice in many locations. al moe sew one of the cooler spots starting off at only eight degrees. this is how the day plays out. we'll see the temppratures

there you can see the rain snow mix turning to a little bit of stow. and then a nice little break. the southwest corner will pick up snow early tomorrow morning. as the day progresses on sunday, we will see some of that snow yet again in the afternoon and evening. and it will continue through monday morning and even throuuh monday through the day monday look at that big swath of snow. right across the foothills. on out to the eastern plains. this is where it will continue until mid-morning on tuesday. look at how the accumulation take place. today. you will notice not a lot of snow by it for us. less than an inch of snow but then we will see these numbers increase. sunday night. two inches. possibly by monday morning inches. these are changes. you will notice in the last two hours our models are changing. we were at two inchee of snow.
decent snow maker for us. as we continue to put that into motion, taking us through tuesday morning that is where we are looking at about 9 inches. there could be 6-12 inches of snow across the front range. so you can notice some heavier amounts down by the palmer divide. however it's not as if this is one of the storms where it will hit them. we are looking for a lot of snow across the entire front range in the metro area. we will track this over the next couple of days. as you notice, it's kind of several different systems that do move through and based on the placement of that low can really dictate the major difference of a few inches to a lot of snow and that could be what gives us a foot of snow. >> okay. we will focus on 62 degrees today. >> if you like the warm weather, enjoy that. >> but there is a lot of snow lovers too. a denver dog owner has one less thing to worry about.
homeless is spending 30 days in jail for misdemeanor crimes. his only concern going to jaal is for his beloved dog bonnie. he was afraid that she would be adopted or euthanized before he would get out and get her. so some deputies stepped in making arrangements for bonnie to stay in the denver animal shelter while he serves her time. so nowwthe reunion is coming very soon. >> he is getting out this weekend. he is really excited he will go and get bonnie. he loves the dog. celebrity. when she is walking down the street, everyone wants to stop and pet her. >> a local nonprofit also donated $250 to help keep bonnie safe as well. next flames engulf two homes in denver. now.

live in denver lindsay watts, denver 7. thank you for that update. more breaking news. this happened over night. a man is dead, shot by larimer county authorities after a stand off in fort collins.. it happened on north timber line. deputies were called out by a domestic disturbance. the swat team was called in to help defuse the situation. but the deputies ended up shooting the man. the hostage is okay. someone is posing as a police officer in el paso countt. authorities say the fake cop has pulled several people over. all of this in the town of rush. we're told he is driving a green jeep cherokee with a red light on top. if you see him or know anything about him or his vehicle, you are asked to call the sheriffs office. take a look at your screen. have you seen this man? his name is jeremy rich. and he was last seen leaving work at a ups facility near dia.
he's not been seen since. the sheriffs office says he's an avid snow border. no one to frequent the jones pass area. however so far searchers have not found anything. he drives a gray 2000 toyota pickup truck with license plate 165tpx. if you see him or his truck, please contact the sheriffs office. an evans man is in jail charged with the death of a baby. edward was arrested on charges pay by's death. police say he was caring for the child at the time but it's related. denver police hoping their efforts to build relationships with the community may help them find a murder. take a good look here. police are looking for a person of interest in the killing of 3 28-year-old varnell jeekins. he was shot and killed near a bus stop. officers for district five held their afternoon roll call
jenkins was killed. >> they work and come and go in this area and we feel like these people have seen this individual before. may know who they are, may have seen them before. may see them again. >> surveillance video from the local business shows someone running through the parking lot after the shooting. officers handed out fliers to nearby businesses. this morning the search continues for the second suspect in the shooting of a jefferson county sheriifs deputy. jose marquez was shot several times while off duty in aurora. he is still in the icu but said to be improving. a 16-year-old injured after marquez shot back is in custody. all eyes will be on the bay area as we gear up for super bowl 50. millions of people will be there taking in the fan experience. with all of those people, the biggest concern is security. and it's a complicated issue. mark stewart takes a look at

not effect our temperatures. here in denver 40 degrees. 45 in aurora. 42 in evergreen and 28 there in greeley. zoom this on out and you can see 20s and 30s on the eastern plains. up in the high country temps at freezing. a little cooler in steam boat. and craig you are nice and warm. although you will not see much of a warmup from that 42 degrees. so let's take a look at what we 3 will be dealing with here in the metro area. and it is going to be a nice warm day. look at those temperatures. climbing into the low 60s this afternoon. and then we cool things off, increasing clouds. chance for a little rain. even a little bit of snow. accumulation for the metro when it comes to today into tomorrow. not much. i'm going to show you that. let's get through these temperatures. see that 60? if you like the warmer weather which i know eric lupher does, enjoy his. we will almost cut this in half. come form. look at lamar 73 degrees as a high temperature.
about such warm weather this time of year. but when you look at the seven day, you will be wanting some of the warmer weather. let's look at that future cast. here's the zoomed in sue. did you notice all of the activity stayed off o the west until later on this afternoon and evening? a little rain moving in and then some rain and snow tonight. this is what it looks like at 8:30. i'm going to move it forward a little bit more. you will start to see things quiet down through the over night hour into early tomorrow mornnng. as you wake up on sunday, we are going to get clearer skies. plenty of sunshine at that moment. start to see some changes move in. so by midday tomorrow, not baa. see the clouds? there is that snow. sunday evening. this, then is really going to continue. it will not let up. look at how much snow we are going o be dealing with over the next couple of days? so by 8:00 a.m. on monday morning, this snow will continue and it will continue through the day monday into tuesdayymorning.
you will see the snow accumulation really big in the high country. steam boat you could pick up two feet of snow by the time the next three days are over with. here in denver as we run through early tomorrow morning, less than an inch of snow possibly a little bit more. and then we will pick up a little bit more through the day on sunday as we get to late sunday night into monday morning. this is where we are really going to be watching how much snow we get because depending upon the speed and the rack, that monday morning snow amount which you see just changing right now could really change things up as far as delays for schools or even some closures and then that just continues into tuesday morning where we really are going to be looking at 6-12 inches of snow across the front range. in the high country we could be looking at 12-24 inches. look at the temperatures.

we have been live in the ruby hill neighborhood where a huge fire sparked this morning. the couple who lives in this house owns a hot air balloon business and they had propane tanks in the van outside of their house. something caused the tanks to explode and the blast was so strong that neighbors felt it for miles around and a firefighter just told me one of the tanks was blown two blocks % away. -`the man who lives in the house was actuully trying to drive the van away as it was on fire.
