pledged to block any replacement that president obama nominates. there are 340 days until the next president takes office, so that is plenty of time. >> nbc's tracie potts joins us now from washington to help us sort it all out. good morning to you, tracie. good morning. the key here thunderstorm -- is the balance of the court. replacing scalia means they could be looking at a tilt of the court with several cases still undecided. we are already seeing possible candidates mentioned to replace

>> the world trade center came down during his brother's reign, remember that. >> don't go after my mother. >> hold on. >> let me finish. >> reporter: marco rubio, trying to rebound after his last debate, came to bush's defense, today blaming 9/11 on bill clinton's decision not to take out osama bin laden. >> that's what allowed al qaeda to grow and continue to prosper and by 2001 to have the capability to strike america. >> reporter: but the florida senator clashed with ted cruz over immigration. at one point cruz took issue with something rubio had said in a spanish language interview. >> first of all, i don't know how he knows what i said on univision because he doesn't speak spanish. and, second of all, the other point that i would make -- [ speaking spanish ] >> reporter: cruz also pounced on trump for what he called the billionaire's past liberal positions. >> you're the single biggest liar. you're probably worse than jeb bush. you are the single biggest liar. >> donald has this weird pattern. when you point to his own record, he screams liar, liar, liar. >> reporter: striking a different tone, john kasich.
