now good morning reno." good morning. it's monday, february 1st. i'm amanda sanchez and i'm dave lawrence. it's a first alert day.. which means you'll want to take it slow on the roads. this is a live look from near northstar. the ski resorts of course loving all the new snow. and according to the national weather service....yesterday's storm set a new record... 7 inches of snow measured at the reno airport.... kolo 8 news now's rebecca kitchen is at the truckee river which looks a lot healthier this year compared to last. good morning dave and amanda.... it's such a good sight t see.. take a look at the river here... down from saturday when it hit it's peak at 8 feet.. but still flowing nicely... the us geological survey had it around 5 and a half feet this morning... something we haven't seen in a long time.....

pressure will then build for the remainder of the a missing snowboarder and skier were rescued over the weekend after riding out of bounds at mount rose ski resort. washoe county officials say two people called for help saturday afternoon after getting lost on the slide side of the mountain. washoe county search and rescue say they made contact with the boarders 4 hours later. officials say they were in an avalanche prone area, which slowed the rescue process down -- but the boarders were found unharmed. if you're planning on hitting the slopes after all this fresh snow, you'll want to be aware of the avalanche danger today. the sierra avalanche center is currently reporting 'moderate'

the posted speed limit of 50 miles per hour moments before the derailment. investigators say the train's engineer hit his head in the crash, and doesn't recall what happened. a virginia community is mourning after a 13-year old girl-- missing since last wednesday-- was found dead over the weekend. investigators say two virginia tech engineering students have been arrested in connection with the abduction and murder amber roberts has more. blacksburg, va. a virginia tech freshman was charged with murder saturday night after the remains of a 13- year-old girl who disappeared from her home were found in north carolina, authorities said. nicole madison lovell was last seen between 7 p.m. and midnight wednesday at her home in blacksburg, virginia, police said. the family found a dresser pushed against her bedroom door and said the middle-school student probably climbed out the apartment window, according to the roanoke times. the family was extremely worried because lovell required daily prescription medication for a liver transplant and didn't carry the medicine with her, according to police in blacksburg, virginia. the search ended saturday afternoon when her body was

from home, blacksburg police chief anthony wilson said. freshman engineering major arrested "we were able to determine an approximate area where she might be found," he said. "virginia state police were dispatched to the general area saturday afternoon and she was located just inside the north carolina border on route 89 in surry county." david e. eisenhauer, 18, of columbia, maryland, was already in custody. he was arrested saturday morning at his residence on campus and charged with felony abduction, police said. police said they acted on tips and social media to identify him. after the remains were found, he was charged with murder. he's being held without bond in a jail in montgomery county, virginia, wilson said. "the speed at which this investigation has moved today has been nothing less than incredible," wilson said. "we owe that to the outpouring of support and tips from the blacksburg, christansburg and montgomery county communities." eisenhauer is a freshman engineering major and has been a member of the virginia tech cross country team, the roanoke times reported. the university said he's been suspended. police didn't give a motive or say how lovell died. cnn is attempting to find out if eisenhauer has retained an attorney. "we still have a great deal to do," wilson said. 'very wounded folks' lovell's disappearance had gripped the picturesque town of about 40,000 people, where the university is located. "i'm scared to death," her father, david lovell, told wdbj before she was found. police, the family and members

all of this snowy weather made for perfect condition on the slopes. the sky tavern ski and snowboard program was in full swing over the weekend after high winds and icy road canceled the first three days. "the last four years have been terrible so it's time we have this its incredible." butt with "it's super powdery and the best time i've had." sky tavern officials say it's a big change from the past few years, when the lack of snow caused cancellations and even a change of venue. the non-profit plans to make up some of the missed days at the end of the season and they hope these snowy conditions will continue. and if you're looking for another good place to go boarding this week - mammoth ski resort is reporting over two feet of fresh snow from the storm. the resort says the snow totals this year are incredible. its not a secret that most women share a love for shoes.
