of record-setting stuff." the gop pack is down to 5 contenders...jeb bush out. the two cuban-american freshman senators left to battle it out to become the trump alternative. sot ted cruz 17:48:26 donald trump has demonstrated that he has a relatively high floor of support but he's also got i think a ceiling. nevada caucus winner hillary clinton is favored in south carolina. she's already focused on the super tuesday states like texas where she rallied over the weekend. sot clinton "some may have doubted us, but we never doubted each other" it was also another big rally for bernie sanders in greenville, south carolina. he got some celebrity help from actor danny glover. sanders is working to court the black vote...which lead to an awkward, luke warm reception at this predominantly african american church. tomorrow night, sanders and clinton will hit the stage for a democratic town hall at the university of south carolina. the republicans are spending today rallying in nevada where the latest poll has trump leading by 26 points.

'we the people' town hall at piper's opera house in virginia city this morning.. in fact it just wrapped up a couple of minutes ago.. we will have more on his visit tonight on kolo 8 news now at 4:30 and 5. ted cruz is holding a rally this afternoon in elko. after that he'll be at the boys and girls club in reno for a rally at 7 tonight. cruz also has rallies planned in fernley, minden and carson city tomorrow. and marco rubio will be in elko for a rally this morning before heading to reno for a rally at the peppermill. that event begins at 12:30. he then heads to minden for another rally this afternoon. and finally, donald trump will speak at a

nugget casino resort. morning. for more information about these campaign date caucus coverage... com and click on hot topics. nevada senator dean heller is endorsing marco rubio now that jeb bush had dropped out of the race. senator heller says he's convinced rubio can unite conservatives to beat the democrats in the general election. other bush supporters announced that they would also switch to rubio's team including representative mark amodei and assembly majority leader paul anderson. our community is mourning the loss of nevada senator debbie smith. she passed away yesterday at the age of 60. she began treatment for a malignant brain tumor a year ago. she was was first elected to the state assembly in 2000 and won a seat in the senate in 2012. politicians from across the state have expressed sorrow over her passing. sparks mayor geno martini said in part quote " she was so brave and strong as she

"we remember her legacy as a true nevadan with a fierce devotion to her constituents and state, particularly to public education and the children of nevada." governor sandoval ordered flags on all state buildings to be lowered to half staff in her honor. the search is on for the driver who police say was initially involved in a deadly pedestrian accident in northwest reno. 31 year old shilo auble was hit and killed saturday night just before 7. investigators say it started when two cars were drag racing. that's when auble got out of his car and started running after the other car. police say that's when he was hit by a third--unrelated-- car. the driver of the car involved in the initial incident took off before police arrived. it's described as a small, dark colored passenger car. if you have any information about this accident, call secret witness at 322-4900. ## the "egg roll king" in sparks will be closed

after a fire broke out at the business yesterday morning. the restaurant was closed at the time, so firefighters had to force their way inside. firefighters say the fire was in the kitchen cooking hood. no word yet on how it started. an update now on the missing douglas county woman. carolyn batchelor has not been seen since last monday. california highway patrol found her s-u-v in the area of "inspiration point" overlooking emerald bay. search and rescue crews from eldorado county and douglas county are now searching the area. but the recent snow and steep terrain is making the search difficult. another mass shooting... this time in kalamazoo, michigan... now investigators are trying to figure out a motive for the killings. and today crews will be breaking apart a boulder at lake tahoe... and it'll be a big job causing some traffic problems. but first... lindsey matherly will be back with your complete weather now forecast. announcer: "you're watching kolo 8 news now midday, with dave lawrence and weather with

problems in the glenbrook area of lake tahoe. check it out... the boulder rolled onto westbound u.s. 50 saturday night. it's estimated to be 9 feet wide and 6 feet tall. n-dot now plans on breaking the boulder apart tomorrow. until the boulder is removed, one lane of westbound u-s 50 will remain closed. a months-old vacation rental ordinance in south lake tahoe - is in need of revamping. city officials are set to discuss options for enforcing the number of guests per rental... parking rules... and how land coverage limits could impact permits. options will then be presented to council members for consideration. since the law went into effect in october, almost two dozen citations have been issued to illegal vacation rental operators. a megabus full of passengers catches fire and many on-board say there were early signs of problems plus.. could hoverboards already be a thing of the past?

an uber driver has been charged with six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder in a series of random shootings in western michigan. investigators are still not saying what set him off.. but we're hearing from the passengers he picked up between hits. abc's elizabeth hur has the latest. pkg script: six people are dead.. two others injured.. one suspect in custody.. but so far.. no motive. police radio: "shots fired. we have one confirmed victim right now." according to police.. the mayhem in michigan started shortly before six saturday evening.. in this residential

safety commission's stunning announcement that no hoverboard is certified as safe? sot cpsc it is irresponsible for a company to continue to sell hover boards that they know do not comply with the standard. the cpsc telling retailers hoverboards currently on the market may be subject to recall and consumer should ask for full refunds for those already sold?if the boards are not certified as safe. toys r us ...now taking hoverboards completely off its website? amazon had already been offering full refunds? overstock.com stopping all sales? this as one of the biggest hover board manufacturers, swagway, says it is working to meet the cpsc's latest safety standard? telling abc news.. "swagway is in support of complying with the new guidelines ... we are in the belief that we have come up with the technology, where not only will the new standards be met, but where these concerns will be alleviated altogether." sot cpsc and they are out there in droves? at one point, ebay said it was selling a

seconds? but we all saw those videos nats someone falling coast to coast.. and those fires? the cpsc, fires in over 24 states...totalling some $2 million in damages. this home burned to the hoverboard went up in flames.. some blaming those lithium ion batteries from china, but still no firm proof. now to a big scare on a a vehicle full of passengers catching fire... then exploding on a highway outside chicago. fortunately no one was hurt... but many lost their belongings. abc's linzie janis is here with the latest script: it was really scary horrifying moments on an illinois highway. "we heard a loud boom and the bus went up in smoke probably 30 feet in the air." this mega bus traveling from chicago to minneapolis exploding just minutes after the 40 people on-board evacuated. "it was full of black smoke when i got off to catch my breath the bus blew up." panicked passengers - watching as their belongings go up in flames. "i lost everything - everything." you can see the charred remains of the bus. miraculously no one was injured. many on- board said there were signs of problems early

"some people say they smelled burning." new york times frugal travel columnis lucas peterson was on-board doing a story on the bus carrier that offers fares as low as a dollar. lucas peterson nyt columnist "the driver kept pulling over to the side so it seemed clear there was something wrong with the bus." last year in upstate new york --- another megabus fire -- after a tire blew - the bus pulling over and then igniting. and in 2012-this massive megabus fire in georgia. nats fire blast a blown tire responsible for ravaging that bus. pending litigation alleges these buses are carrying too much weight which may cause the tires to blow out. this announcer: you wouldn't let money just blow out of your house. so when your ac or heater is on, make sure the doors, windows, and fireplace flue are shut tight.

shields gun manufacturers from most lawsuits over criminal use of their products. a bridgeport superior court judge is scheduled to hear arguments this afternoon. his 12-year-old son used his gun to commit suicide - now a las vegas man is facing charges. 31-year-old olin manuel was arrested last week on one count of child abuse with substantial bodily harm, resulting in death. on februray 13th.. police found manuel's son with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. investigators say manuel had purchased the gun... but he has a criminal background that includes felony convictions.. and isn't allowed to own guns. lots of accidents on chair lifts across the country lately... things for skiiers to keep in mind to keep you safe on the hill... and kids learning to ski at sky tavern has been a longtime tradiion... and it may be expanding... but first... lindsey matherly will be back with your complete

the sky tavern junior ski and snowboard program is having a big year... and they're looking to expand their facilities. they're hoping to install a new 2-thousand square foot dome for the "sky kids" program. that's the program for three-to-six years olds. more than 170 sky kids are participating in the program this year.

involve giving away something we all love... cash. but is there a smarter way to go about that? that's at the center of a new study. more --reporter pkg-as follows-- healthier employees...and as a wellness programs are hot! according to a study published in the annals of internal medicine - big companies are now offering some form of get their workers to participate. looking at how such programs can be more effective... researchers gave nearly 300 people a 7- thousand step goal to keep up during a 13- week-challenge. the study participants were broken up into groups... one got one dollar and forty cents for each day they hit the 7- thousand step goal. the second group's participants were entered into a daily lottery -- they could only win if they met

the third received $42 upfront each month -- with the caveat that participants lost one dollar and forty cents for each day they failed to meet the 7-thousand step goal. researchers find? the group that was money excercised more. one physician involved with the study says it's all how the reward is framed...adding that our brains are wired to avoid losing things...and we like the immediate gratification of getting the money upfront. i'm andrew spencer. if you're trying to lose weight, the bathroom scale can sometimes feel like your enemy. but research is saying that maybe we shouldn't fear the scale so much after all. but a recent study published by researchers at cornell university suggests that frequent weighing in, can help weight-loss efforts for overweight adults. weight can fluctuate by as much as five to six pounds per day, based on fluid retention or even the time of day they step on the scale. experts recommend weighing in once or twice per week, at the same time of the day, on the same days of the week. cg: leslie heinberg, phd/cleveland clinic "if you're trying to lose weight without gathering some of this information, it's a little bit like driving your car in a new town without the gps - you might

but having all that information, by having a roadmap, you're going to get there much more quickly and efficiently." :18 dr. leslie heinberg from the cleveland clinic says the number on the scale is just one piece of data. things like waist measurements and how your clothes fit are just as important for creating an overall picture of health. drinking coffee could cut your chance of developing a type of liver disease. that's according to a medical journal that reviewed nine separate studies on the effects of coffee. researchers say two cups a day could cut your chance to develop alcohol-related cirrhosis by 44-percent. cirrhosis deteriorates the liver by blocking blood flow. alcoholism is the second-most common cause of that condition in the u-s. but experts say coffee will never balance out all negative affects of excess alcohol. some doctors also say more research is needed to confirm those studies. for the first time...bill cosby's wife... camille

women alleged cosby defamed them by branding them as liars when they went public about the sexual assault. cosby denied those allegations and filed a contersuit. lawyers for the cosbys attempted to reject the deposition subpoena, arguing camille cosby doesn't have any relevant information about the lawsuit. areva martin sot: " no wife wants to go into a deposition or public forum and have to testify about her personal relationship with her husband. definitely not testify about his relationships with other women. " the cosby lawyers also argued that the converstations camille has had with her husband are confidential, but a judge ruled yesterday that the deposition hearing will go on. sports reporter erin andrews is set to return to nashville for her negligence lawsuit against marriott hotels. the suit stems from a case in 20-08 in which a man rigged hotel peepholes and filmed andrews changing clothes. andrews accuses marriott and others of

continued communicating with the complainant, interviewed witnesses and received medical records from the complainant as well as obtained videos from surveillance cameras. in her affidavit seeking an order of protection against manziel, crowley said she met up with him at hotel zaza in dallas in the early morning hours of january 30th. she claims an argument turned physical and she "became very scared" and "tried to fight him off." crowley said manziel led her down a back stairway to the hotel valet... and that she told the valet "please don't let him take me. i'm scared for my life!" crowley also claims that later that night, the 23-year-old struck her with "his open hand on my left ear" and that she "could not hear out of that ear." while police would not release details about the surveillance video, sources tell espn that it contains an encounter with the valet as well as other footage from the hotel. presser sot maj. midge boyle said: "there has been no determination as to what charge, if any, will be filed against mr. manziel" in october police dash cameras revealed the moments after another alleged physical confrontation between the pair . crowley: he hit me a couple of times. officer: while you were in the car? crowley: yea. // manziel- known for his
