seen a week ago. ### a major boulder estimated to be eight feet tall and weighing about 60 thousand pounds fell around 6-30 saturday night in the glenbrook area of highway 50. just up the road from the cave rock tunnel. kolo 8 news now's paul harris spoke with n-dot officials today about efforts to clear the road. as the massive boulder sits on the side of the highway. a guardrail stands between it and the homes below. "it would have definitely had a good chance of going right through the house." the nevada department of transportation says no major injures have been reported. steve williams, ndot: " accident right after the rock has stopped. car, from what i was told, bounced off of it and sideswiped another vehicle." on tuesday construction will begin to remove the rock. breaking it into little pieces. it is a time consuming process. so you can expect delays "take all of the traffic and put it on the eastbound side of the highway." ndot says they are hoping the warmer weather will solidify the remainig soil around the rocks above. that is why they are putting in precautionary measures down the road.

conservation camp in clark county yesterday morning. paramedics declared him dead at the scene. the cause of death is still under investigation. investigators have released the name of a reno woman killed after crashing her pickup in carson city. it happened firday evening on southbound i-580 near college parkway. troopers say 55-year- old melanie marnne- lawson went onto the shoulder... then over- corrected... hitting a concrete barrier. the crash is still under investigation. anyone who may have witnesses it is asked to call n-h-p. a sparks restaurant has been closed after a weekend fire. a fire broke out at the "egg roll king" on oddie boulevared yesterday morning. the restaurant was closed at the time, so firefighters had to force their way inside. firefighters say the fire was in the kitchen cooking hood. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. a backcountry skier had to be rescued rescued yesterday near the dana plateau after injuring
the mono county sheriff's office sent a search and rescue team and a helicopter was able to lift the victim to paramedics. he was sent to mammoth hospital where he is recovering. a dramatic rescue in the sacramento area - after a series of crashes sent a moving truck over a guardrail, trapping the driver inside the burning vehicle. kristen simoes has the details. it was a complicated rescue... with no time to waste. over the span of six minutes, what started as a minor collision, led to four vehicles crashing. one of them - a budget over the edge of the yolo causeway, landed caught fire joe tinney, davis fire dept.: "first engine company got a hoseline from up here, kept the fire in check. we could see the driver was still alive then we had to do a rescue operation to get him out of there." that rescue took close to an hour and included dozens of firefighters from west sacramento and davis. he driver was conscious, but trapped in the cab. and the biggest challenge was access. joe tinney, davis fire dept.:
fire engine so we had to do all of our operations from up here from on top of the roadway. so it was a big challenge. we had to do some things real quickly." including getting that injured driver back up to the roadway, where medics were waiting. highway patrol officers tell us crashes on the causeway are notoriously bad. jay patton, chp: "there's not much in the way of a shoulder or center median so there's nowhere for people to go if there happens to be a crash so it's a very difficult if people aren't aware of what's going on around them." in this case, the initial crash involved two dark cars, and happened just before dawn, which meant oncoming drivers likely couldn't see the vehicles involved. as for the cause: "there doesn't appear to be any alcohol or drugs that were involved. just a matter of speed and inattention." imagine being able to shoot video and photos in a full 360 degrees. samsung unveiled the galaxy "s-seven" and the "s-seven-edge" during a tech conference in spain.
