reportinf live in nlv-- mk-- 13an. one person is dead this morning following a hike at red rock.. the death wasn't caused by a fall or an accident. police believe the person died from a medical episode. this happened yesterday at the sand stone quarry trail. search and rescue recovered the body and then sent a helicopter to get the body out. ahead today... the henderson man accused of killing his father is expected in court this morning police say 21-year-old eugene (she-yahm-bo) tshiyombo shot and killed his 68-year-old father after an argument in their home according to the arrest report...the father was former military and ran a strict household. his son told police he couldn't have a smart phone and had to stop participating in after school events because they ran too late. also today...we're expecting to hear more on n-v energy's "grandfathering" proposal for solar customers. the p-u-c is expected to meet this morning. this proposal would allow existing solar customers to keep their old...lower rates. you'll remember people have been frustrated for a couple months about the new solar the changes have forced solar companies to close up shop in sourthen nevada too. more frustration over the new education savings account program. is upset this morning aboutbeing asked to foot the bill to store student applications. while the program is on hold...there's a cost to store applications in the cloud. the state's treasurer wants the groups fighting the program to put up the money to cover the cost. storing the information would keep families from having to reapply if the program beats legal challenges and moves forward. some people decided to get some exercise before eating all that super bowl food. the big game 10-k race took place yesterday morning in downtown las vegas benefitting goodie two shoes. the non profit started by

frozen lake learned their lesson the hard way. over a dozen vehicles sunk right into the frigid waters in wisconsin. people parked on the ice and then headed to a local winter festival. but why did they think this was a good idea? "we saw that people were parked on the ice so we said, 'heck yeah! let's park on the ice.' emergency crews were called in to try and save the cars...at least 10 of them are a total loss. even though that ice is 10 inches thick the cars were too heavy. safety experts say ice must be 8-12 inches thick to hold a car or small pickup. even thicker for a truck. no one was hurt. this crying carolina panthers player is going viral this morning.

florida senator marco rubio is picking up a key endorsement here in nevada. the las vegas review-journal is endorsing him for the states republican caucus. that takes place february 23. the review-journal says they chose to back rubio because he is concerned about key nevada issues, including federal land use policies and immigration. now to a contact 13 consumer alert... two young women are posing as teens and preying on retirement homes to make some quick cash. now they've been caught on camera. this morning police hope to catch them before they scam even more vulnerable seniors. this is happening in houston. the women claim to be from a nearby high school collecting money for a band trip. they're very smooth.//said they were the granddaughter of one of my other residents, so she let them in. the seniors write them a check...then they do a victory
