today c-b-s' scott pelley sat down with clinton in las vegas.. where she discussed a variety of things.. including her fellow democratic condenter.. her own trustworthiness.. and the influential role of her mother. pelley also asked whether clinton supports an increase in the federal minimum wage. hillary clinton: i do support a national minimum wage...$12... scott pelley: sanders says $15 clinton: i go further. i want every state, every city that can raise the minimum wage higher to do so.?" clinton also said she understands why candidates bernie sanders and donald trump tap into americans' anger on the campaign trail.
11:01 pm
and if you still need to know your caucus information.. you can find it on our website at ktvn dot com. just click on that blue newslinks button. we also just found out bill clinton will be in reno tomorrow to campaign on his wife's behalf. that event will take place at the "hillary for nevada "campaign offices located at 1413 south virginia street in reno... from 11:30am to 2:00pm we've set up a link to rsvp to that one on our website ktvn dot com, too. now the nevada republican caucus will be held next tuesday. but tonight g-o-p candidates donald trump, jeb bush and john kasich all participated in a town hall in south carolina-- which holds its primaries this saturday. craig boswell has the latest from columbia, south carolina. gop frontrunner donald trump softened his stance on pope francis during a cnn town hall meeting thursday night. sot trump i have a lot of
11:02 pm
he's got a lot of personality. i think he was very much misinterpreted and given false information. trump first went off after francis said "a person who thinks only about building walls ...and not of building bridges is not christian." for a religious leader to question a person's faith is disgraceful. i'm proud to be a christian. jeb bush, a catholic, said a person's faith is a private matter. it's not appropriate to question donald trump's faith. ohio governor john kasich said it's the us's right to build a wall, but he'd rather see more bridges. i'm pro-pope. donald trump holds a nearly two to one lead over ted cruz here in the latest cbs news poll of likely south carolina voters. craig boswell, channel 2 news. now in all this campaign talk lately, you've likely heard the term "super delegate." so just what are they? super delegates are party leaders who are sent to the national convention to watch out for the party's interests. their vote carries the same weight as any other delegate
11:03 pm
in nevada the democratic party gets 43 delegates. 35 will rise through the caucuses this weekend.. and be obligated to a specific candidate. the other eight-- are leaders given a pass and a chance to take part in the convention because of who they are. the super delegates can pledge their votes ahead of time...which could definitely change the political polls. but could they swing a nomination? chris:"it could swing a very very close national nomination...15% is not a negligible number." but if the rest of the delegates show solidarity....the experts say it's pretty unlikely. eric: so if i win 23 of the regular delegates and the super delegates don't like me i still win 23-8 and if i do that in every state the delegates go home mad but i go home with the nomination." the republican party doesn't
11:04 pm
they elect all of their delegates through the caucuses. "now here's mike alger's first look at the pinpoint 2 forecast" while the mountains could see some more snow on friday , most of the wintry weather of late will ease as we head into the weekend. there is one more weak storm system moving in friday afternoon, but the dynamics aren't strong enough to have much left over for the valley to overcome the rain shadow effect. the mountains could potentially see a couple of additional inches. as we head into the weekend, conditions will stabilize and slowly warm up, from the low 50s on saturday to near

thanks mike. well the storm may have passed by... but the roads are still dicey tonight. drivers could see some icy patches due to snow melting earlier in the day and refreezing with the drop in temperatures tonight. so nevada highway patrol wants to remind drivers to be careful. trooper duncan dauber, nhp: "if you're sliding around on the ice as so many vehicles were this morning, whether it's a front wheel drive or rear wheel drive car, sometimes there's not too

are so hazardous to where you don't feel comfortable being out on the road, just pull over or make that trip some other time." nhp says they are getting ready for calls... from people who may need help on the roads tonight. trooper duncan dauber adds that excessive speed is the number one cause of wrecks in winter weather, so they're asking drivers to take it slow. also remember to wear your seatbelt... and leave plenty of room between your vehicle... and other vehicles. and you can keep track of the weather...wherever you are... with our free channel 2 weather app. it just got an updated interface today... you can get the radar... forecast... and watches and warnings in the palm of your hand... and you can customize it to where you live. just search "k-t-v-n" in the google play or apple store. turning to the crime beat.. reno police have arrested two people in connection with a fraud investigation. 31 year old matthew williams and 28 year old julie morris were
11:07 pm
with burglary, use of an id and credit card without permission and conspiracy to commit a crime. investigators believe they stole personal information from vehicles and used them to make fraudulent checks. and police have also arrested 47- year-old james bzdziuch and 25- year-old kanin celestre, who are suspected of burglarizing vehicles at fitness centers in reno. police say they recovered stolen property from a hotel room registered to one of the men after they were taken into custody on february 2nd. deputies with the douglas county sheriff's office are asking for help finding a woman they say has been missing since monday. 69-year-old carolyn batchelor was last seen by her roommate at their home on zephyr cove. she's five foot 7... 180 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. she was last seen driving her silver honda pilot s-u-v... similar to this one... with nevada license plate h-p 22-95. if you know where she is call

coming up - it's privacy versus protection.. we'll have the latest on apple's encryption battle with the federal government, in just 50 seconds. they're one of the wall street banks that triggered the financial meltdown -- goldman sachs. just settled with authorities for their part in the crisis that put seven million out of work and millions out of their homes. how does wall street get away with it? millions in campaign contributions and speaking fees. our economy works for wall street because it's rigged by wall street. and that's the problem. as long as washington is bought and paid for, we can't build an economy that works for people.
11:09 pm
the debate between silicon valley and the government continues -- after apple refused to comply with a court order to unlock the i-phone belonging to one of the san bernardino killers. vance: "it is now, i believe, the most visible example of how silicon valley's decisions are thwarting criminal investigations and impeding public safety." the f-b-i is locked out of syed farook's i-phone 5c.. but apple is betting its global customer base wants unbreakable encryption ... not a company that hands over their customers' private information. a judge ordered apple to disable the i-phone's auto erase feature, which wipes out all of its data, if the wrong passcode is entered 10 times. apple c-e-o tim cook says they
11:10 pm
that developing it would create a "backdoor" to not only that i- phone...but millions of devices. today cook said apple will not comply with the federal court order.. and that the company will take the legal fight all the way to the supreme court if needed. looking around the world now.. not since 1928 when calvin coolidge visited havana has a sitting president visited cuba. now nearly nine decades later, president obama will pay a historic visit to the island nation within weeks. the two republican, cuban americans running to succeed him quickly offered up criticism. rubio: "is that something , as president, you'd ever do? not if it's not a free cuba and i'll tell you the problem with the cuban government; it's not just a communist dictatorship, it is an anti-american communist dictatorship." cruz: "i think it's a real mistake i think the president should instead be pushing for a free cuba." president obama's trip has long been expected since he normalized relations with cuba
11:11 pm
critics raise concerns that the communist government there still engages in human rights abuses. just tuesday the countries signed an agreement clearing the way for daily u-s commercial flights to cuba. a u-s economic embargo in cuba is still in effect. j still to come on channel 2 news at 11 - fernley's booming... with a population that's doubled since 2000. but it's not all good news. the problems it's posing.. coming up. mike will have a look at your forecast after the break.... plus-- the sparks fire department is expanding a popular safety program. we'll show you who they're hoping to help, after the break.

11:14 pm
today is the first day of a new, lifesaving fire and fall safety program in the truckee meadows - called "remembering when." developed by a team of sparks firefighters and red cross workers.. "remembering when" helps older people live safely at home, the program is centered around 16 safety messages-- 8 concerning fire prevention.. and 8 concerning preventing falls. sparks fire marshal bob king says seniors face a lot of hazards just by being at home. king: "falls seem to be a big one that we respond to, almost on a daily basis." ehrman: "it's a huge problem. you know, when we get old we just don't have the stability that we used to have when we were younger." among the program's 16 safety messages: take your time moving.. clear walking areas.. and improve lighting. for fire safety-- stay in the kitchen when cooking.. plan an escape.. and get smoke alarms. we've also set up a link for more information on the program and how you can protect the

the blue news links button, at ktvn.com. did you know that fernley's population has more than doubled since 2000? while that's certainly had many benefits -- it has also created some growing pains. the north lyon county fire protection district does not have the funding to keep up with that growth. the fire chief says the 1-point-5 million dollars per year and 12 firefighters are about half of what is needed. volunteers are utilized and hand-me-down equipment has been donated -- including two fire engines from the city of las vegas. huntley "we want to see development. we're excited about that and we definitely believe it will help us, but we want to make sure those people's investments are protected, too." city leaders say they expect more property tax revenue to come in, as growth continues -- but huntley fears it won't be enough because of lower assessed values.

tonight in health watch.. a new laser technology is helping people get rid of their unwanted tattoos. doctors say it's more powerful and effective than anything else on the market. kenneth craig reports from new jersey and shows us how it's helping one man turn over a new leaf. tommy prosser is 38 years old, married and now ready to start a family. and for him, that means getting rid of this large arm tattoo he got when he was 18.
11:23 pm
man, this is a bad move, i don't want this? probably in my twenties. doctor mitchell chasin is working to erase it. he's using the latest f-d-a approved laser technology called 'piqo4' . in just three visits, tommy's 20 year old panther tattoo, is nearly gone. the laser has four different wavelengths and speeds to target specific colors of ink. kenneth: so how does this machine compare to other machines that were on the market? doc: this bar far is the most powerful machine to date he says for patients, that means fewer treatments and a smaller chance of skin damage afterwards. each session takes just a few minutes. the number of treatments a patient needs depends on the color and size of the tattoo. treatments cost several hundred dollars a session. other than some redness and tenderness,
