and i'm maria silva. welcome to fox5 severe weather in new england. as another snowstorm moves into the area. schools are closed in boston as well as in providence, rhode island today as they prepares to see up to 18 inches of fresh snowfall. a blizzard warning is in place for southeast massachusetts. rhode island, eastern connecticut and other parts of could get between four and eight inches of snow today. the heaviest snowfall is expected during the morning and afternoon commute.

with a quick look at the fox 5 weather 24-7 forecast. good morning i'm cassandra jones with fox5. the sunshine & warmth will continue with us over the next week due to high pressure dominating the forecast through with daytime temperatures in the low 70's through the weekend. this is a nice change from last week when we struggled through 50's. we could encounter some breezy conditions, as we already have a lake wind advisory in effect through recreational area & colorado river valley for gusts to 40 mph possible through 10pm tonight. but for now expect sunny temps.

mead and pecos. the girl's mother says the little girl was outside playing with her brother on a scooter when the driver of a white van hit the girl and took off. the child was taken to north vista hospital where she later died. "i'm devastated, that was my baby.... my only girl.... he took my baby from me....my baby " (crying) the driver is described as a hispanic male in his 40's with facial hair. police are looking for a white panel van without any windows. if you've seen the vehicle or have any information that could help police, call crime stoppers right away at 7-0-2-3-8-5-55-55. a motorcyclist died in another crash near tropical and decatur. police say a 27- year-old biker was involved in a crash on bradley road around 8 last night. officers say the motorcyclist was speeding down

front of him attempted to turn right. the biker slammed into the back of the car... the man later died at umc. no word yet if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. today... flavor flav is hoping to put an end to his legal troubles in las vegas. the rapper is due in court today to face misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, speeding and cocaine possession. n-h-p clocked him doing 87 in a 65 mile an hour zone last may. the entertainer's attorney hopes to resolve the case without going to trial. also happening today... another push to protect existing solar energy customers in nevada. at 9 a-m, the public utitlities commission is expected to hear arguments about whether to allow existing solar customers to keep their old rates. hundreds of solar workers and customers are planning to rally outside today's meeting. the p-u-c is expected to vote friday to decide if it will protect existing solar customers from the new fees.

across the valley saw a record amount of money bet on the big game.. fox5's shannon moore is live at the westgate this morning with a recap the gaming control board will release official betting numbers today - but its estimated statewide about 125 millon was bet on last night's super-bowl -- that's more than any other super bowl in history. oddsmakers here at the westgate superbook say they had a pretty good day. the handle was the most they've ever had and the win wasn't too bad either. it did cost some bettors though who went with the favorite carolina in fact, about 86 percent of the early money was wagered on the panthers.. but if you were part of that midweek flurry of big bets placed on the broncos than a huge congrats to you this morning! as for the prop bets.. with more than 400 on the board - there were a few that

a lot less... as prices continue to drop here in the valley. several gas stations are seeing prices under two bucks a gallon. according to "gas buddy," the lowest price around town is a dollar-89 cents at the smiths near centennial parkway and goldfield street. drivers we spoke to at this arco gas station were pumped about the low prices. "i think its awesome, way too long and much overdue. makes traveling a little bit easier." growing as senator bernie sanders edge shrinks. the latest c-n-n / w-m-u-r tracking poll shows 33- percent of new hampshire residents supporttrump. 16-percent for marco rubio... while 14-percent backed texas senator ted cruz. the poll was completed before saturday night's debate in new hampshire. the nevada caucuses are less than 2 weeks away! the democratic caucus is up first on saturday february 20-th. the republican caucus follows on tuesday february 23-rd. we will have full coverage of both right here on fox five. hillary clinton and bernie sanders will debate next month in flint, michigan. flint was thrown into the national spotlight after it was discovered the city's water contaminated with lead for months. sanders and clinton have both addressed the issue on the campaign trial. c-n-n is hosting

down a hit and run driver accused of hitting a 2-year- old girl and leaving her for dead. the little girl was hit just before 6 last night near lake mead and pecos. witnesses say the driver of a white van hit the girl and later took off. "he put himos h over hers and he was going like this to her stomach, like trying to make her breathe and i just grabbed her and i screamed and i was asking people to help me and i just remember the guy saying i'm sorry, you could smell the alcohol on his breath and he was just saying im sorry, im sorry, im sorry." the child's mother says she performed c-p-r on her daughter while a family friend rushed her to north vista hospital. the 2-year-old later died at the hospital. call crime stoppers at 702-

have any information that could help police police are still trying to find out what led up to a deadly fight in a southwest valley community. it happened friday at a home near mountain's edge police say a fight broke out between a 19- year-old man and his father. that's when the teen reportedly stabbed his dad. the 40-year-old man then shot and killed his son. family members tell police the relationship. investigators say they're not ruling charges against the father. two suspects are wanted in connection with a shooting outside a local bar. police say one person was hurt in a shooting saturday night outside "putters bar and grill" near eastern and tropicana. the victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. police are still looking for two people wanted for questioning. anyone with information should call police or crimestoppers 7-0-2-3-8-5-55-55. in international news... investigators believe last week's

somali jetliner may have been an inside job. two airport workers are now under investigation. in this surveillance video, you can see two airport workers holding what appears to be a laptop computer. moments later one of them gives the laptop to a passenger, who then boards a plane for djibouti. shortly after takeoff, the laptop exploded, ejecting the passenger from the plane. no one has claimed responsibility for the explosion. search and rescue crews in taiwan continue their desperate search for survivors after a deadly six point four magnitude earthquake. taiwan media reports two survivors were pulled from the wreckage alive today. the powerful earthquake has killed at least 36 people. dozens are still believed to be buried alive. in more local news... metro is searching for some new recruits! the department says it needs more police officers to patrol our streets. you must be 21 years old... have a high school or g- e-d diploma... and apply your test score with metro

that's happening tomorrow from two-to-eight-p-m... apparently dogs want in on the fun too. in rancho santa fe, california -- the city held its 4th annual "doggie gras" yesterday. there was a parade... along with floats, costume contests and lots of music. each year, the parade is held to raise money for a local animal center. dozens of doggies and their owners enjoyed a tail- gating party in downtown las vegas. driver accused of hitting a 2-year- old girl and leaving her for dead. the little girl was hit just before 6 last night near lake mead and pecos. witnesses say the driver of a white van hit the girl and later took off. the victim's mom says the little girls brother tried to help her.... and the suspect stayed for a minute before leaving. the crime... despite there being no witnesses...or physical evidence tying her to the scene... fox 5s cyndi lundberg has more on our investigation... guilty until proven innocent... kirstin blaise lobato was convicted of the crime...and for nearly 15 years... she's maintained her innocence. we do want to warn our viewers... some of the details of this story are very graphic... duran bailey was found mutilated... and had his penis cut off... lobato became tied into the crime after telling friends about a sexual assault in which she said she tried to stab a mans groin... bailey was found murdered in july... lobatos attack happened miles away in may.... investigators however maintained it was the same event. dozens of people placed her more than 170 miles away during the murder... there was pubic hair...semen... cigarette butts gum... and bloody footprints that all exclude lobato as the murderer... one of lobatos main supporters is a former fbi agent with 25 years experience who says police got the wrong
