inside. who police are looking for tonight... and how the victim is doing. a metro k-nine stabbed more than a dozen times during a standoff. how nicky is doing tonight.. this is fox5 news at 10. local. las vegas. an arrest has been made in that tragic hit and run crash that killed a two year old girl. i'm elizabeth watts. thanks for joining us. fox5's abby theodros joins us live from the newsroom with the latest in the case. 51 year old daniel garcia-martinez of north las vegas was arrested for his role in sunday night's fatal crash. we spent the afternoon talking to neighbors who live close to the scene and they tell us garcia- martinez was a familiar face. almost a week has passed since 2 year old evelyn green was killed by a hit and run driver. car drives by a make shift memorial honoring the little girl has grown. and now her killer is behind bars. north las vegas police arrested 51

friday and say he was behind the wheel of the white windowless van that hit green and then fled the scene. susan mckay taurisano: is that him? wow. susan mckay turisano lives across the street from the green family and was home the night of the tragic killing. she says many believe the driver was drunk that night - and was trying to take the back route home from a neighborhood bar. mckay taurisano: they dont like to drive lake mead they take the back roads and they go down thomas. north las vegas police said because several days passed before garcia- martinez was arrested - he hasnt been charged with driving under the influence yet. so far his charges include failure to stop at the scene of an accident and driving without a valid license. fox5 knocked on a couple of doors in the neighborhood to get some answers. while all residents decline on camera interviews many recognized garcia-martinez's face and said he frequently visits a relative who lives on thomas avenue. police said they were tipped off

van in the area. once they found him garcia martinez cooperated with police and was later arrested. an update on one of the go fund me accounts for evelyn green - said she was laid to rest in los angeles today. we did reach out to friends and family who were not immediately available to talk with us. reporting live in the news room abby theodros fox5 news local las vegas. garcia-martinez was also charged with failure to give information to parties at a vehicle accident. a suspected drunk driver kills a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crash. it happened friday night near spring mountain and decatur. police say a 69- year-old man was outside a marked crosswalk... when he was struck by a jeep liberty. the pedestrian was knocked into the road from the impact. he died on his way to u-m-c. police say the driver 35-year-old peter mitchel left the scene... but came back about an hour later. he was booked for suspicion of d-u-i... and hit-and- run. a gunman is still on the run after shooting and killing a man who

vehicle. it happened late friday night on cindysue street -- near rancho and vegas. officers found the victim's body with several gunshot wounds. police say the man and suspect were in the car together outside a home -- before shots were fired. the suspect is 18 to 20 years old... had dark braids... and seen wearing a red hoodie and tan shorts. one person was hurt during a home invasion in henderson. it happened around seven this morning on west atlantic street -- near lake mead and water street. police say a man and woman broke into a home while four people were inside -- including children. the 32-year-old homeowner was shot and injured. he was taken to sunrise hospital in critical condition. the children were not hurt. police are looking for two suspects in their late twenties or thirties. they say the home invasion does not appear to be random. anyone with information about either of these shootings should call police or crimestoppers 7- 0-2-3-8-5-55-55. a suspect is arrested after shooting and

ago. that's according to an arrest report by metro police. police say dwayne lawson shot the man several times near boulder highway and tropicana on february 13-th. the arrest report says the victim and his wife were fighting... when a friend tried to intervene. the victim told the friend to get out of the house before he kills her. the report says the friend called her boyfriend who is also her pimp about what happened. police say she saw lawson go up to the door... show a handgun from under his shirt... then shoot the victim. lawson was arrested in fairfield -- near san francisco. he awaits extradition back to las vegas. a metro k-nine officer is doing well and recovering at home after being stabbed in the face several times while taking down an armed suspect. we want to warn you -- this picture may be graphic to some. the "friends of the las vegas police k-nines" posted this photo of "nicky" on their facebook. they say quote... police say the eight-year-old dog was stabbed 12 to 15 times in the face during a standoff thursday that lasted into the morning. the suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital. "nicky" was rushed to the animal hospital for surgery. police say there are specific charges for hurting a police dog. an animal shelter for pets of domestic violence victims was robbed. "noah's animal house" gives shelter to pets of clients from the shade tree. this morning -- they say an employee saw someone in their food shed... and throwing dog food over the wall. a thousand pounds of dry food was stolen.... including a special diet food for an animal with special needs. the organization is asking for the community's support. "they took most expensive dog food we had, and i had it saved for pets that need it and i do have dog that needs that food." the shelter is in need of "natural balance limited ingredient diet lamb" and rice food. it was the perfect day to be outdoors! les is here with

two democratic two democratic presidential candidates are battling it out. and both hillary clinton and bernie sanders will campaign in the silver state a week before the caucus. clinton is spending the three day weekend here in las vegas. today she was at the painter's hall in henderson. she told voters they have work to do in nevada and across the country.

"bagpipes with particpants running" the "saint baldrick's lepre- con 2016" had the largest gathering of people dressed as leprechauns. the five-k at town square had one- thousand and 466 leprechauns.

record was set in ireland four years ago. saint baldrick's benefits chdhood cancer research. a few runners stripped down for a cause earlier today. fremont street was packed with underwear clad heartthrobs for the annual cupid's undie run... the race was in support of the children's tumor foundation... participants dressed in their bedroom best as they faced a brief one mile course. later they celebrated their fundraising with a few post race festivities and awards. last year... over three- and a half million dollars was raised for the foundation. "i'm here today to support my friend here, miss. ellie! she suffers from a tumor situation so i'm here to support all the children that have tumors with the children's tumor foundation" (0:12) the run happens every february... this was the first year that cupid's went international with races in canada and australia... 2016 is just getting started in china... and las vegas celebrated with our annual

"nats with parade music" the celebration took place in downtown las vegas near container park.. it's the year of the monkey. every chinese new year -- hotels get festive with decorations... traditional chinese cuisine... and activities to wish good health and good fortune to all. of ninety dollars this weekend. almost 90-percent of fresh cut flowers that come into the united states arrive in south florida. they have to be hand-approved for disease and pest free. and speaking of flowers -- these will light up your valentine's day. more than 25- thousand l-e-d roses were on display at hong kong's harbor front this weekend. the traveling garden is part of a world tour that originated in south korea. more than eighty people helped plant them. the white roses symbolize pure and innocent love. couples came out to enjoy the sight. "yeah, i think, i think it is a bit (romantic) and i think it's awesome. it's rarely, i mean relatively there is little chance to have these kinds of installations in hong kong." the roses are waterproof -- so they can light up rain or shine. those looking for a furry friend to be their valentine this year can adopt one for a sweet price. the animal foundation has 57

gotta dance... and some veterans are cutting loose on the dance floor as a form of therapy. natalia martinez takes us to kentucky where it all started. you could say it's the music or the fancy footwork that draws them in. "serenade." "swing your partner" "(laughs) i never thought i'd learn to do-si-do." but really ....it's something else that got them hooked. "when i first came out here, i'd been isolated for quite a while." ted spencer is working towards recovery one step at a time. "i had a couple traumatic events happen while i was in the service and never really dealt with them." ted isn't alone. "sometime i have nightmares, and then i have, some medications can trigger it too." army veteran

battling a long list of ailments...from ptsd to cancer. but looking at him here...you would never know. "i usually don't go square dance, but then i said, 'you know, this is fun.'" that's the point of the dancing well series. veterans and their families can tune out their battles and tune into the beat. "i was here dancing three minutes and i had a great grin on my face and i looked around and the other vets were grinning, the volunteers were grinning." dancing well's organizer says the idea started to help improve soldiers memory. they quickly realized it also lowered pain, reduced anxiety and reconnected bonds. it's even inspired this veteran to sign up as a volunteer. "i know some of the things that help them and i hope i can incorporate it and help these people in that way too." after this go- around... organizers hope to turn things up again soon as long as the vets are willing to give it a chance. "if the vets would do that, they would fall in love with it,

welcome back to fox five sports. some sad news to report out of the world of u-f-c. former heavyweight champion -- and long time las vegas resident -- kevin randleman died this week, at

sports on thursday that randleman had been admitted to a san diego hospital for pneumonia and later passed away due to heart failure. randleman was a fierce wrestler who captured two ncaa wrestling championships and was a three-time all-american, while at ohio state. once college was finished -- entered the ufc, in 1999. into his career -- he was already the heavyweight champion of the randleman williams to win the vacant title.... ....and then went against pedro rizzo in june 2000. it's n-b-a all star weekend in toronto. the game tips off tomorrow night. but there was plenty of entertaining play to be had tonight -- for 'all star saturday night.' the first event of the night was the 'skills challenge.' participants went head-to-head to see who could dribble, pass, hit a lay-up, and a three the fastest. in the end -- 2015 first overall pick -- karl anthony- towns -- beat isiah thomas. next up was the three-point contest. all-stars james harden and steph
