police say the victim was driving on m-l-k south of craig... when he was shot just before 1:00 this morning... the victim's car hit a utility box before it veered off the road. he was treated at the hospital and is expected to be okay. police haven't said who they're looking for or why the shooting happened. call north las vegas police right away if you have any information. what's next for the clark county school district? superintendent pat skorkowsky will lay out his plan for the new year with this state of the district address today. fox5's shannon moore is live outside cimarron high school with what we can expect this speech is an opportunity for the district to update the community on how they're doing. this year's theme.. leaping forward. superintendent skorkowsky plans to highlight the district's growth and accomplishments while adding what he calls "a personal touch" this year -- inviting guests on stage with him to share their experiences with the district's programs.

identify the woman shot and killed charilie's on decatur. "i heard something go "pap, pap, pap, pap" then you heard something go (in audible) then later you heard screeching i come out of my house and theres a car near the end of my block." the drive-by shooting happened early sunday morning. police say a man and woman were driving on decatur when shots rang out. the woman was hit and died at the scene. the man in the car was treated at u- m-c. neighbors we spoke to say while these situations are disturbing, they're becoming more common "it's a good neighborhood. no matter what neighborhood you're in something happens whether it's break-ins or whatever we don't even bat an eyelash." police are looking for a dark colored car and say they're still investigating the shooting as a case of possible road rage. sunday's shooting comes three months after a

was shot on decatur near alta. the manhunt continues for the suspect accused of shooting a man at a party over the weekend. police say the shots were fired near owens and h street saturday night after an argument escalated... two men were shot and taken to u-m-c. that's where one of the victims died... the other was treated for his injuries. police say the gunman took off before officers arrived. the coroner will is set to release the victim's identity. if you have any information about the shooting... call police or crimestoppers right away at 702- 385-55-55. the woman who admitted to shooting and killing her boyfriend in self- defense is due before a judge this morning. catherine brewington's preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a-m. brewington told police she shot her boyfriend aaron matthews after the two got into an argument earler this month. when police arrived at their home near lone mountain and cliff shadows, they found matthews dead with a gunshot wound to the back. brewington is facing an open

"look at me, you killed my niece." the man facing felony charges for a high-speed crash that left two local teenagers dead is also due in court. seong lee faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted in the march 20-14 crash. the teenage girls were trying to make a u-turn on boulder highway at russell, when lee hit them. police say lee was driving 117-miles an hour in a 45- mile an hour zone and his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. the "nevada political action for animals" will hold a rally outside the juvenile courthouse this morning... demanding justice for animals. the minor responsible for killing swans and other birds at desert shores last year is due in court today. the group wants a judge to impose the maximum penalty that would put the minor on probation until the age of 21. the demonstration starts at 9 a-m. a secret fight club at a california high

how it slipped by school administrators. these disturbing images from three separate videos were posted to social media over the weekend. they show students fighting in what looks like an organized fighting ring. concerned parents brought them to the attention of the nevada union high school superintendant. who has now launched an investigation into the matter. friends, family, colleagues and supporters remember nevada senator debbie smith. hundreds atttended a memorial for the late democratic lawmaker in sparks on sunday. february 21- st...after a year long battle with brain cancer. she's remembered as a dedicated public servant, wife and mother. smith's brother reportedly speaking at her memorial... says his sister once told him her secret to staying calm in the legislature. she said, "i always ask myself one thing--would this make my mother proud?" smith was just 60 years old. (applause)" hillary clinton claims victory in south carolina. the democratic front runner congratulated fellow candidate senator bernie sanders for a race well run before shifting her campaign's focus to her republican rivals. yesterday, clinton called on g-o-p leader donald trump to unite the nation, instead of dividing it. trump's fellow candidates also calling out their g-o-p rival after he refused to denounce an endorsement from ku klux klan leader david duke. the g-o-p and democratic candidates will come face-to-face tomorrow for super tuesday. 12 states and one territory are all voting... it's a huge night... and that's why the rhetoric has been ratched up to silliness at times. 595 delegates up for grabs for the republicans and 865 for the democrats. candidates are really feeling the pressure. in the hours leading up to

threatens the heavy snowpack that was providing relief from the drought on both sides of the sierra. lake tahoe has risen to within about 9 inches of its natural rim, but that's well below where it should be... which is more than 2 feet above the rim. the national weather service says even with temps being hotter than normal snowpack water content has remained close to average. if you live near nellis air force base... it's going to be loud... or louder... starting today they will be conducting combat training. over the next 2 weeks the united states air force and their allies will perform combat stimulations... called red flag exercises... officials warn of increased noise in area. the exercises run thru march 11th. in today's health news... health officials in hawaii are working hard to prevent the zika virus from making it's way onto big the island... according to global health

breast-feed in public! "we're not scared to feed in public and we won't be told to move along." "the amount of support here is just astounding." "if people don't like to see a woman breast feeding, they can always grab their bite (inaudible) and go sit in the donny where they expect the mother to feed her baby." the women showed up in scores to protests at an area mall on sunday. this after one of them was asked to leave the food court a few days earlier... and told to use the mother's room--while breast-feeding. australian law says it's illegal to discriminate against a breast- feeding person. some very brave people spent the weekend running up 108 flights of stairs... one guy did it really fast. it was for the annual scale the strat event... 44-year-old sproule love from new york ran up those 108 flights in seven minutes and 22 seconds! he actually won the race last year... clocking the exact same time!

desk seven people including children will have to stay somewhere else after their home caught fire. here's what is left behind after a fire saturday night near sunset and boulder highway. smoke detectors gave the family time to get out safely. the cause of the fire was an electrical problem in the garage. the american red cross is helping the family. dozens of firefighters were able to get this fire at a valley apartment complex on maryland and vegas valley under control. no one was hurt yesterday morning. this is the second fire at this building in the past few months. a garden hose was used to try to put out this fire near valley view and alta. it started in a storage area

fire crews say it spread from the outside of the home to the attic. firefighters were able to control it in ten minutes. no one was hurt-- but one person is receiving help from the red cross. in national news... an army staff sergeant assigned to the pentagon... is arrested for shooting and killing a virginia police officer... this officer was just hours into her first day on the job. officer ashley guindon was shot and killed on saturday... while responding to a domestic violence call with two other officers. police say ronald hamilton shot and killed his wife crystal hamilton...before police arived. the other two officers were also injured. the the couple's 11-year old son was also home at the time of the killings-- he was not hurt and is staying with relatives. another gruesome crime in ohio... a pastor is shot and killed...moments after finishing sunday's sermon. his alleged killer, police say, is his brother. officers say reverand william schooler was shot sunday afternoon... in his office at

church. his brother has the killing. no one else in the church, was injured. decide today wheter or not to janice dickinson's defamation lawsuit against bill cosby. the comedian's attorneys say dickinson has given different accounts of her interactions with cosby over the years. dickinson sued cosby in may over his denial of her claims that he drugged and raped her back in 1982. the former model says the denial caused her to feel re-victimized about the incident. court resumes today in erin andrews' civil suit against stalker michael barrett and the nashville marriott. barrett pleaded guilty to stalking in 20-10 after recording andrews nude through a peephole at the hotel and posting the pictures online. andrews is seeking 75-million dollars in damages for negligence... saying that a hotel worker told barrett which room andrews was staying in.

top advisers is acknowledging that the catholic church "made enormous mistakes" in allowing thousands of children to be raped and molested by priests. australian cardinal george pell testified by video last night from rome to the royal commission in sydney. pell's testimony is a big show of accountability in the church's long-running abuse saga. the ku klux klan members arrested after a brawl at a park in anaheim, california are claiming self- defense and the police are backing that claim. the five clan released yesterday. police say seven people who were seen beating the klansmen with wooden posts are still in custody. the clash between the k-k-k members and protesters happened at an anti-immigration rally on saturday. a private catholic high school in northern indiana is under fire after students held up racist signs taunting their latino rivals. the students from andrean high school started shouting "build a

" i feel like we're moving in the right direction.we're seeing positive growth when it comes to graduation.. career and tech is great legislative session. we've got great things going on. we need to leap forward and keep pushing it." of course some the biggest challenges have been lack of funding, new teacher hiring and classrooms. all of those issues liklely to morning.

"the turnout here has been great. to see all people a lot we dont recognize which is nice. that means new eyes on the business new eyes on community to see what we're doing and that's always a good thing." the goal was to raise 25-thousand dollars by next 25-thousand dollars by next month... but with the community's support -- they've been able to collect more than 34-thousand dollars! the ranch plans

desk the boston orioles are known for wanting to have their pie and smash it too-- but that tradition has come to an end. for the last few years the team has celebrated victories with center fielder adam jones by smashing a pie in his face. the team has now stopped the tradition for safety reasons. jones tweeted the news on saturday. saying 'it's no one's fault. it's just about safety." the team, no doubt will come up with another tradition to celebrate.
