good friday morning. it's another morning with a spread of temperatures from north to south. where we have the deeper snow pack is where the cooler temperatures are. we've also had clear skies for a longer bit of time, compared to the east where the low clouds have lingered a bit longer. we will see a start with some sunshine, but clouds will be on the increase throughout the day today. road conditions show some patchy areas of partially snow covered roadways on the major highways and interstate. there will also be slick spots on some of the city streets as well, so do keep that in mind. storm track 7 live weather network in shows quiet conditions right now. here's the forecast for today. we will have temperatures in the 20s and 30s across the area from north to south with increasing clouds. there's the chance for some snow flurries later this

with a chance for light snow later this evening, and again as we a developing story this morning... a united nations human rights panel is siding with wikileaks founder julian assange. right now he's being held in an allegations. the panel says not only should he be freed, but also entitled to compensation. the ruling is not binding. concern is mounting over growing reports of the zika virus inside the u-s. the symptoms of zika can be very mild... ...but for pregnant women, the virus's potential impact on unborn children is devastating... it's so concerning, that one state is declaring a health emergency. reid binion has more. ....comparing the state's response to the zika virus to preparing for a hurricane... officials are expanding florida's public health emergency declaration to a fifth county... ...as reports of infection continue to grow.. "yesterday we had nine cases. today, florida has 12 zika well in your home." and florida isn't the including warm-weather ...and hawaii... ...where the first u-s case of a newborn suffering brain damage linked to zika was reported this week. it comes as world health officials express concern that the global expansion of zika may continue "i think it's quite prudent to predict that zika will continue to spread around the world, 30 countries today, and that number reporting. health officials say at this

there's no vaccine to treat the disease. a man believes he contracted h-i-v from a blood transfusion. now he's suing the blood bank and the red cross. the man has not been identified but we know he lives in hawaii. he received blood during heart bypass surgery five years ago. "if you got the blood in the hospital, it's going to somebody. and for this to be contaminated like this is bad." the suit is seeking unspecified damages. a year after giving out a big clue - investigators are still asking for anyone with information about lyric and elizabeth's disappearance to come forward. hunters found the bodies of eight-year-old elizabeth collins and ten-year-old lyric cook more than three years ago... last year - investigators released information saying they think the person who killed the girls was very familiar with seven bridges park in bremer county -- that's where their bodies were found. we spoke to heather and drew collins.

investigators about every other week. and even though time has passed, they hold onto hope the killer "justice will be served. i do believe that. it just takes time they believe the girls were killed the same day they were abducted. if you have any information please call police. six people -- including one child -- are found dead inside a home authorities in chicago were checking on a southside home -- after getting a tip about a man who had not shown up for work in several days. right now, police said they have no reason to believe the public is in danger, but aren't taking any chances. "well i can't say for certain something all internal that was contained within the residence

a large house fire broke out in east texas wednesday afternoon. firefighters confirm the fire started in the garage, but aren't sure how it started. no word if anyone was home at a man's body is found after a fire in central iowa. fire crews responding to the home early this morning in nevada the home also suffered severe damage. the victim is identified as 36- year-old adam blazek. police say he was likely killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. almost all the leaders of a tiny town are under investigation for allegedly taking kickbacks from contractors. they also apparently took money from a person trying to set up illegal gaming rooms. the u-s attorney's office in san antonio announcing its arrested most of the leadership of crystal city, texas. prosecutors say the mayor, city attorney and others took payments and favors to ease city

decision 2016 coverage... the democratic presidential candidates square off one final time ahead of the new hampshire primary. this is the first time they've debated without martin o'malley, who dropped out monday after a poor showing in the iowa caucuses. both clinton and sanders targeted each other in a series of heated exchanges. they continued an ongoing arugement over who can be described as progressive. "do i think president obama is issues including the trade agreement. but, yes, i think he has done an excellent job." "it is fair to say, senator, for progressivism, i don't know anyone else who fits that progressives in the democratic party who have stood up time, and time again against special interests, against the powerful on behalf of those who are left behind and left out. in the latest nbc news poll, sanders

democratic voters in new hampshire the university of iowa is the home of new prayer spaces for muslim students and faculty. the school converted two former offices into rooms for prayer and meditation. one room is for muslim men, the other for women. the university has been working with the school's muslim student association since last spring to bring a designated prayer space to campus... "a muslin needs to pray 5 space? you know, i've heard of students who were trying to find a space in a stairwell." the prayer rooms opened this week. muslim students and staff say they've already used them because they're convenient. even non-muslim students have said they're proud of their school for being teamed up... together they found a way to honor some of our fallen officers... kwwl's amanda gilbert joins us live in waterloo... she can tell us more about this partnership and how you can get involved

black hawks will be playing against madison this weekend. at the game... there will be a raffle... put on by the cedar raise money. take a look at these hockey jerseys... these are what the crime stoppers will be auctioning off... two of the jerseys are in honor of waterloo officers... two for cedar falls officers... and two for black hawk county sheriff's deputies.... deputies tim peterson and doug norton... as well as two officers who were shot and killed while on the job in 1981 are just some of those being remembered... people can buy raffle tickets for these shirts at the black hawks games up until march 12th... that's when the drawings will be... each jersey has something on it to honor the officer it represents. we've got you covered live in waterloo... amanda gilbert... kwwl news.

will help the cedar valley crime stoppers... they told kwwl they are low on funds.... if you don't believe in ghost riding....perhaps this video will help change your mind. this is security footage from huber's store in fort atkinson. a man was taking his a-t-v out for a spin when he lost control of it. the stores security camera caught it all. as kwwl's olivia mancino tells us, the owners say they've never seen anything quite like this before. watch as this a-t-v barrels down an empty parking lot.. crashes into a wall..and starts doing donuts all without a driver. "i saw the video two weeks later and i said holy toledo thats a good view, that other camera doesn't show it as good!" of course, don huber is talking about the atv that went for joy ride behind his store. friend from down the street, thought it would be a good candidate for

require the department of human services to give 30 days notice to end the contracts three companies have witht he state to manage medicaid. the house speaker says it won't make it through the house. caught on camera --- an inmate escaping after bei in court. using his clothes to hide handcuffs --the inmate in washington gets away -- even running barefoot. he sprints out the front dodor -- but police caught up with him about three miles away. this county says it has a pretty good record of keeping track of inmates- but they'll now change their policies after what happened... years and two hundred five thousand inmates back to court and have zero escapes, that's the goal and i think that's achievable" it's the second time this same inmate has escaped. it's life in prison -- again -- for an iowan who killed his three-year--d cousin. edgar concepcion jr., from charles city, was found guilty of murdering krystel banes in 2009. he was 14 at the time --and was sentenced a year later to life in prin.

had to be re-sentenced. this week -- he was still given a life sentence -- but with the chance of parole this time. continuing coverage this mornimg: the investigation into a deadly crash ontinues today. three people died arly thursday morning on highway 30 near keystone. authorities say the driver of a minivan lost control -- another car crashed into it. then, two other cars crashed. the iowa state patrol says ten people werer inside the van at the time of the crash -- two of them were thrown out. the victims' names have not been released yet. one person has died after an suv hit a bridge pillar. it happened on highway 63 in mahaska county. the victim's name has not been a drug case leads police to a puppy mill. police in wichita, kansas found 20 dogs during a drug investigation. some of the dogs were being kept in cages. police believe someone was selling themn crigslst cation with 20 to 40 more dogs. the parents of the dubuque toddler who shot himself in the

bright for a retired officer and his k-9 partner. the officer will be allowed to keep the dog after all. there was an uproar on social media when people learned a retiring ohio kk9 -- ajax -- had to be sold because he was considered city property and could still work. a lawyer did some digging and found the definition of a canine unit -- which includes the handler, not just the dog. that lets the handler be first in line to buy the dog. so he did for one dollar. so now, there's a question about what to do with 70- thousand dollars raised through a go-fund-me page.
