"do i think president obama is a progressive? yeah, i do. i disagree with him on a number of issues including the trade agreement. but, yes, i think he that in your definition, as you being the self-proclaimed gatekeeper for progressivism, i don't know progressives in the democratic party who have stood up time, and time again against special interests, against the powerful on behalf of those who are left behind and left out. in the latest nbc news poll, sanders
democratic voters in new hampshire onto coverage of the iowa legislature...a new bill aims to help student athletes who are victims of bullying. the bill would allow a victim to transfer schools and immediately be eligible to play sports. as it stands now, all athletes "if they were being bullied of sports is very important to their lives and their daily activities. if this happens, i think it is a great opportunity for kids get a fresh start." this bill passed a subcommittee -- but there's still several stages until it could become law. senate democrats introduce a bill that would stop the process of privititizing medicaid in iowa. the bill, which is expected to pass the senate next week, would
services to give 30 days notice to end contracts with the three companies that would manage medicaid. house speaker linda upmeyer says it won't make it through the house. concern is mounting over growing the symptoms of zika can be very mild... but for pregnant women, the virus's potential impact on unborn children is devastating. as reid binion reports, it's so concerning, one state is declaring a health emergency. almost all the leaders of a tiny town are under investigation for allegedly taking kickbacks from contractors. they also apparently took money from a person trying to set up illegal gaming rooms. the u-s attorney's office in san antonio announcing its arrested most of the leadership of crystal city, texas. prosecutors say the mayor , city attorney and others took payments and favors to ease city inspections and approve permits for construction. back home in iowa...police believe a man who was found dead after a suspicious fire likely killed himself. nevada police say the autopsy shows adam blazek died of a gunshot wound after a fire damaged his story county home. the fire is also being described as suspicious and is under investigation. a kwwl follow-up. muslim students at the university of iowa now have a place to pray. the university converted two former offices into rooms for prayer and meditation. one room is for muslim men to use and the other is for women. the university has been working with the school's muslim student

this half hour...the public image of the university of iowa. a heavy-drinking school where sexual assault is too common. that's the warning the university received from a pollster it hired. this is a report the university received over a year ago but has refused to release. a university employee shared it with journalist. the pollster warned the university that those perceptions mean the school is losing credibility as a serious academic institution. a university spokesperson said the polling helped them with marketing strategies. a kwwl follow-up. the parents of the dubuque toddler who shot himself in the face by accident -- are facing charges raven harris and willie horsley both face child endangerment charges after their son was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound. it happened more than a month ago
dubuque. court documents show the 2-year-old shot himself in the face with a 45- caliber handgun that was kept in the house. a new sentence for an iowan who killed his three- year-old-cousin edgar concepcion jr., from charles city, was found guilty of banes in 2009. he was 14 at the time --and was sentenced a year later to life prison. however -- after an appeal -- he had to be re-sentenced. this week -- he was still given a life sentence -- but with the chance of parole this time. the investigation into a deadly crash continues today. three people died early thursday morning on highway 30 near keystone. authorities say the driver of a minivan lost control -- another car crashed into it. then, two other cars crashed. the iowa state patrol says ten people were inside the van at the time of the crash -- two of them were thrown out. the victims' names have not been a developing story this morning... a united nations human right panel believes wikileaks found julian assange should be freed. the panel says assange has been quote "arbitrarily detained" by

"thank god so far, in both cases, their condition is good" police say the suspect later took his own life. this morning, two soldiers are behind bars -- charged with murdering a teenager. the soldiers -- based at fort bliss, texas -- are accused of executing a 16- year-old. authorities believe the shooting happened over a drug deal. six people are found dead inside a home. police found the bodies of five adults and a child during a welfare check police are investigating the incident as a homicide but say there is no threat to the public. video shows an inmate escaping after being in court. using his clothes to hide

likely new hampshire voters. another twist in the e-mail controversy that's hovered over clinton the state department's been looking into how other secretaries of state used e-mail -- and found that colin powell and staff members for condoleezza rice also got classified information from personal e-mail accounts. for the past year, clinton has been blasted by republicans for using a personal e-mail server when she was secretary of state. one town is considering adopting a program which would allow teachers to carry guns in classrooms. the connecticut town looking at arming teachers in its only pre-k through eighth grade school. town selectmen voting to have the board of education look into a non- profit program which gives teachers 26 hours of violence response training. police in wisconsin say a bomb threat called into a sheriff's office appears to be tied to the controversial netflix series, "making a murderer." according to authorities, the person who called in the threat to the mantiowoc sheriff's office made a reference to "getting justice" for steven avery. his murder conviction is the centerpiece of the netflix series...which raises questions about whether sheriff's deputies planted evidence. authorities did not find any suspicious devices. "i can't say i'm totally surprised at it. i was hoping nothing like this would occur." an investigation is ongoing. c-v-s will start stocking a heroin overdose antidote in another state. narcan will be stocked in ohio. c-v-s already sells it in 15 this is the latest indication heroin has gone mainstream across america. narcan is a nasal spray used to reverse the effects heroin in the event of anoverdose. walgreens said that as of february 1st, narcan could be bought in its pharmacies without a prescription.
