is the shooting rampage in kansas. we know the identity of the alleged shooter who opened fire on co-workers before he was shot and killed by police. nbc's blake mccoy is at the scene of the shooting. good morning to you. >> good morning, matt. four people dead here, including the gunman. 14 others injured. many of them apparently his co-workers. one e lice officer is beinin hailed a hero cop this morning. all of this comes as another community struggles to understand. >> reporter: this is video of alleged gunman cedric larry ford, posted on his facebook page. in his late 30s, allegedly went on a shooting rampage at the excel factories. he is seen firing what appears to be an assault rifle. so far, police have not revealed a motive. >> pop, pop, pop. >> he was following people out the back. i thought he was going to shoot me. >> reporter: polole confirmed the shooter was an employee at

mowers and lawn care equipment. an estimated 150 people were ininde when the gunfire e oke out. the suspect had a long gun, possibly an assault rifle, as well as a pistol and appeared to be shooting at random. eyewitnesss stopped to help the wounded. >> he got shot twice in the chest, once in the arm and once in the leg. >> reporter: anxious relatives rushed to the scene. >> my daughter works second shift, along with her boyfriend, and my niece. >> reporter: the rampage started about an hour earlier, less than ten miles away. shortly before 5:00 p.m., police say the gunman drove through the south central town of newton, opening fire on n o cars and injuring one person. from there, people say the suspect drove eight miles where he stole a car and injured another person. after that, he made his way to the excel factory in hesston, shooting o person in the

7:05 am
good morning. >> good morning to you. after three straight double digit victories for donald trump, cruz and rubio finally ganged up on h h. with the stakes bigger in texas, the fight felt much more like a brawl. >> reporter: at the lone star state standoff, marco rubio let loose. >> you're the only person on the stage that's ever been fined for hiring people to work on your projects illegally. >> i'm the only one on the stage that's hired people. you haven't hired anybody. >> if he builds the wall he built trump towers, he'll use illegal immigrants to do it. >> reporter: in his last stand before super tuesday, rubio skillfully and play fully mocked donald trump. >> now he's repeated himself. >> no, i'm not. no, no, no. i watched him repeat himself five times four weeks ago. >> i saw you repeat yourself five times five seconds ago. everybody is dumb, we're going to win, win, win. >> senator rubioioplease -- >> every night, same thing. >> reporter: one of the best lines of the night?
7:06 am
success story. >> if he hadn't inherited $200 million, you know where he'd be? selling watches and hats. >> reporter: the rubio campaign trying to gain momentum online, with this watch. shattered face and all. for ted cruz, he also teamed up on trump. >> in 2013, when i was leading the fight agaiait the gang of 8 amnesty bill, where was donald? firing dennis rodman on "celebrity apprentice." >> reporter: trump defending and delivering counter-punches. >> i got along with everybody. you get along with nobody. you should be ashamed of yourself. i had an amazing relationship with politicians. this guy is a choke artist and this guy is a liar. >> reporter: the billionaire also fended off this colorful attack from the former mexican president vicente fox.
7:07 am
[ bleep ] wall. he should pay for it. he's got the money. >> reporter: asked how he'd get mexico to pay? >> i will and the wall got ten feet taller, believe me. if i would have used even half of that word, it wouou have been national scandal. >> reporter: at times, the debate moved into a debacle. >> donald, relax. >> you need to relax. you're the basket case. >> reporter: b b carson left off camera begged to be heard. >> can somebody please attack me? >> last night, cruz and rubio promised to release their tax returns today or tomorrow, putting pressure on donald trump to do the same. trump blamed the irs for his delay, saying two to three years worth of his returns are currently being audited. matt and savannah? >> peter alexander, thank you. senator marco rubio is with us now. senator, good morning. >> good mornink. >> i'm readi a lot of the reviews this morning. a lot of peoplplthink you had a
7:08 am
night. you hit donald trump on a string of substantive issues. things like obamacare and his hiring practices and planned parenthood and the vacancy at the supreme court. was this the plan all along, to string together this kind of substantive attacks at the 11th hour to leave this fresh in the minds of voters on super tuesday? >> the thing here is i prefer not to have a fight and argument with other republicans but donald has done well in the early states. we're on the verge of having someone take over who is a con artist. he's telling people he's fighting. his tataet audience is working americans who are really struggling in this economy. he's spent a career sticking it to working americans. >> more specifically, you said you don't want to criticize other republicans. you said that over and over again. but was it the strategy to wait till the last minute so it's
7:09 am
tuesday? >> no. that was when the debate was. number two, as he reminds people over and over, he says he's doing well in the polls. i admit i'm adjourned i'm anan underdog. i ask people to o in us at marco so we can stop the lunacy. he's stuck it to working americans and now claims to be their champion. >> the taxes of donald trump. you and senator cruz say you'll release your returns in the coming days. donald trump says he can't because he's been audited. he has been for the last several years. is that a sufficient reason not to release at least part of his tax records? >> f fst of all, we're relelse ours. not only release ours, but we do a financial disclosure with the senate every year. there's no difference between the disclosures and the taxes. number two, i don't think it's enough. ted cruz had a good point last
7:10 am
we need to see the returns to see if the difference between the audited version@and what he filed are evidence of wrongdoing. i think the reason why donald won't release his taxes is he hasn't made nearly as much money as he claims he does. he'saken trump airlines, bankrupt. mortgage, disaster. trump university was a fraud. he's not as rich as he claims to be. everybody in finance knows that and his taxes would expose that. he came up with the excuse of an audit. it's absurd. >> after the debate, he said the reason he's audited is he's too strong of a christian. do you think that might be a factor? >> i mean, this is unreal. again, this guy is a con artist.t. he's always making things up and no one holds him accountable for it. you have a guy who is being sued right now for fraud for trump university. i've had stories written about my driving record. we had red light camera tickets. i have some guy go back and
7:11 am
was 18, i got arrested -- or cited for drinking beer in a park after hours. he's being sued for fraud, for defrauding people. he had to pay a judgment for hiring polish workers illegally to build trump towers. he's being treated with kid gloves by many in the media. in the hopes he's the nominee. some are bias. they'd love to see a liberal like donald trump take over the republican party. others know he's easy to beat once he gets there. and hillary clinton will take him apart. >> tuesday is hugely important for you. you need a win. you need delegates. one of your campaign spokespersons said you would win florida. you are behind right now in the state by double digits. will you guarantee that you'll win the state of florida? >> we're not behind by double e polls you're citing is wrong. not only do we have our own numbers but i know my state. we'll win florida and do well on super tuesday. it's up to the people watching this. that's why i'm on this
7:12 am
if you want to stop this man, donald trump, this con artist, from taking over the conservative movement, go on, sign up and help us. we'll put an end to it. can't turn over theheeagan revolution to someone who spent a career sticking it to working people and now claims to be their champion. >> marco rubio picking up where he left off last night. ththk you for your time.e. >> thank you. let's bring in nicolle wallace and mark halperin, managing editor for bloomberg politics. good morning to both of you. mark, you were at the debate last night. the old saying, throwing everything but the kitchen sink. in this case, i think the sink was included. mao rubio dumping it on trump from the fake university to the hiring of the illegal workers to the fraud lawsuit. it was all in there. i guess the question this morning is, was it enough? was it too late? >> kitchen sink, bathtub and
7:13 am
this morning with you guys, he talked about trump is a con artist. it was more of a focused message an last night where he tried lots of things. it's interesting t tthink about someone, including marco rubio, had had a performance like this against trump two or three months ago, whether the trajectory would be different. we're a few days away from super tuesday. donald trump is leading in all the states voting in super tuesday by a substantial margin, except texas. i think marco rubio probably waited too long tout this performance in. >> i don't think there is any doubt this was marco rubio's best performance in a debate. was it donald trump's worst? >> it doesn't matter. he's always crummy and it never seems to matter. what i think is interesting is -- so chris christie did to marco rubio what marco rubio did to donald trump. the effect of that was incredible damage to marco rubio. chris christie was out, i think, less than a week later. what was interesting to me is
7:14 am
christie make it easier for ted cruz to win texas? did he breathe life back in the all of the opponents. this indictment of trump on his business dealings was always trump's achilles heel. the mystery in republican circles is why didn't anyone make this case before? >> talking about the effect of this, mark, does this buy marco rubio time? do you think the donors, the loyalists and people waiting on the sidelines, wondering if marco rubio had it to go the distance, are they off the delines and is he going to get an influx of support and cash? >> some people will say, we'e' love to see a one on one debate between marco rubio and donald trump. the problem is, super tuesday, when so many delegates are at stake with so many voting on tuesday, it doesn't look like marco rubio could win. while he says he can win florida, and the public polling doesn't suggest he can, it's hard to see how he survives to
7:15 am
doesn't win a single state on super tuesday or between super tuesday and when florida votes on the 15th. he's in a stronger position with a strong debate performance but it's tough to see how it translates into winning states in the short term. >> all right. this was fascinating. thank you very much. good to see you guys this morning. meanwhile, former republican candidate senator lindsey graham hasn't'teen shy about attacking donald trump or the shenanigans of this campaign season. he took things to a new level at the washington press club dinner lala night. take a look.k. >> my party is going [ bleep ] crazy. if you kill ted cruz on the floor of the senate and the trial was in the senate, nobody could d nvict you. i ran for president. i had to get out.
7:16 am
he had@to get out. and the doctor kevorkian of the republican primary. tonight -- i endorse donald trump and hope magic still exists. >> did he sum it up well? >> he did. what is interesting is this party has its hair on fire about donald trump. marco rubio is the only one with a hope of benefitting from all these attacks. i think republicans are wondering, where was this outcry? where was thisysteria? donald trump has been doing well for a very long time. marco rubio is now satisfying and acceptable to a broad swath of all of the kind of republicans who laugh at those jokes. where was the strength that he displayed last night six, seven, two months ago, when it really could have put marco rubio in
7:17 am
>> it's not like the lines of attack were hiding in the bushes. >> trump's business dealings are known around new york and in business communities. they're finally being put out in an aggressive way. it's satisfying to a lot of people who wondered why they weren't earlier. i agree with mark's analysis. i'm just not sure if there is time. >> thank you. >> thank you very much. let's turn to al. he's on the road this morning. lucky guy, miami bch. looks beautiful. al, good morning. >> it is gorgeous. 56 degrees, which we would love in new york city. feels a little cool here, little breezy. we're not complaining. it's the 15th annual south beach food and wine festival here in south beach. in the meantime, let's show you what we have going on right now around the country. again, the good ne is, things have calmed downwnor the most part. we'll seeing action in the pacific northwest, northern california. windy in the northeast. snow showers around the great lakes. sunshine along the gulf coast. things are much calmer today than they have b bn the last
