f trains track work between 21st and 71st avenues. bronx river parkway south near the zoo an accident. all lanes are subject to closure. we have alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect. ken, over to you. >> thank you. we have new details on a dangerous weekend for pedestrians across new york city. on sunday alone, five people were the victims of hit and run drivers. three of them were killed. while the crashes are not related, there is growing concern about safety in the streets. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in park slope with the new clue in the search for a driver. dray? >> good morning, ken. police made no arrests in any of the five hit and run accidents that happened on sunday morning. behind me you can see the billboard from the crimestoppers -- now blocked by the trash truck that you will see in a moment. it's asking for any information that may lead them to the driver responsible for the most recent hit and run that happened at this intersection

released overnight by police as they searched for the driver who hit and killed a man in brooklyn. the video police say shows the driver running a red light and hitting a man crossing 5th avenue in park slope. the 41-year-old victim died at the hospital. it was the 5th hit and run in new york city over the course of four hours. >> it's a shame. i hope whoever is responsible turns themselves in. >> reporter: an uber deliver was killed getting something out of his car. the driver kept going after hitting the 48-year-old. police are searching for the driver that took off after hitting and killing jose contreras. he was leaving his sister's 80th birthday party early yesterday morning when help was killed near the entrance ramp to the cross bronx expressway.

yonkers and to retire. his family is hoping that the person that hit him turns himself in. >> he was always there for us. always there for my mom. my mom is distraught. it's horrible. >> reporter: there is a look at that billboard from crimestoppers asking for any information that might lead detectives to the driver responsible for the accident that happened here just before 5:00 a.m. on sunday morning. the tip line is on out billboard as well. there are two surviving victims from the hit and run. the first is a 30-year-old man hit crossing the street in soho and a 22-year-old woman struck by a silver minivan in south jamaica queens. if you have any information on any of the drivers involved in the accidents, give the a call. live in brooklyn, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. happening today, new jersey

movie. movie. what the black actors get the same opportunities. >> i hope this is a story that honestly changes people and allows them to be free. to me, making this movie was my own search for freedom and breaking free of my own personal boundaries. i hope when people watch this they realize they have it in themselves to break free of whatever holds them back. >> to tell stories like this is my dream since i was 4 years old. this film was exemplary. i got to work with a director and all the things we spoke about off camera during the making of this movie transferred their way on screen. this was true story telling. we really got to have a collaborative experience together. this is a journal that i will never forget. i will never forget even count testifying leo dicaprio as he took his oscar to get it even graphed at the november gore -- governor's ball. it is on instagram. you will see a picture of his freshly minted oscar that he just won being engraved as he watches. that is just part of the magic of oscar night for me. reporting live from oscar's red carpet, starting to look like hollywood boulevard again, i'm sandy kenyon, channel 7 eyewitness news. back to ken and lori. >> all right, sandy, thank you so much. amazing how quickly they pull up everything. >> absolutely. our oscar coverage continues online. head to to see the best red carpet fashions and you can view video clips and see the complete list of winners.

rain by 10 in western new jersey. hits the city about 11:00. after lunchtime it's gone. sun breaks out, partly cloudy skies tonight. jackets and sweaters this morning, a little on the chilly side, particularly in the burbs. it will be breezy. i give it a b. and sunny, sunny breaks in the afternoon. >> sounds like a good day to me. we have good news on the l.i.e. near exit 32, little neck parkway accident just cleared away. newscopter 7 is above the bridge. is the overturned vehicle still there. >> reporter: good news. you will see the overturned vehicle on a flatbed tow truck. what they did, they took the vehicle and loaded it on the flood bed still up side down. that's in the interest of getting it off the bridge. there are a few police cars up here and it looks like a fire

eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in park slope with more for us. good morning, dray. >> good morning, lori. the last of the five hit and run accidents that happened sunday morning happened here at this intersection behind me. you can see that crimestoppers billboard asking for any information that might lead them to the driver responsible for the accident. here is a look at the surveillance video you mentioned a moment ago released by the nypd. it tic the driver slowly going through the -- running the red light and hitting the victim as he was crossing 5th avenue and 9th street riding his bicycle in park slope before 5:00 sunday morning. that victim later died at the hospital. now, this is one of five hit and run accidents that happened across the city within a four- hour span early sunday morning. in all, three people were killed and two injured in those hit and run accidents that happened in brooklyn, the bronx, queens and manhattan.

survive or i should say are in the hospital. the first, a 30-year-old man hit in soho crossing the street and the second, a 22-year-old woman struck by a silver minivan in south jamaica queens. those two victims are listed in critical condition this morning. police are looking for the drivers in all five of these hit and run accidents. this is happening in the backdrop of the mayor's vision zero campaign, a campaign meant to try to cut down on the number of traffic related deaths. in 2015 that number was down but so far in 2016 close to 20 people died in traffic related relates. we are live in brooklyn, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, dray. charges are pending against the driver allegedly involved in another hit and run which killed an off duty nypd officer. authorities say 25-year-old vincent harrison pulled over and got out of his car after i was involved in an accident on the new jersey turnpike in

another driver then hit harrison and took off. police later took that driver into custody. harrison worked in the 100 precinct in rockaway beach queens. >> for the second straight school day, thousands of students in manhattan have to find different classrooms. a fire in the basement of the washington irving campus forced students out. kristin thorne is live in union square. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ken. at 10:30 this morning, parents of the success academy union square are planning to hold a rally outside the building to demand that mayor de blasio assign the city's office of emergency management to take over the situation here to make repairs go quicker than they are going and to get the campus open again. it was last thursday when there was a fire in an electrical panel in the basement of the 11 story building on irving place nobody was hurt. the building was evacuated and

have been reassigned to other school buildings throughout the city. the department of education says that crews, more than 30 workers, have been working around the clock to make the repairs. they say that the damage is so significant to the electrical gears that it's just taking them a lot of times. some of the parents have asked the city to put in generators to running. the city says the damage is so severe that the generators would do no good. live in union square, kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kristin, thank you. 20 people are without a place to stay this morning after a large fire ripped through homes in newark. flames spread to three residential buildings on union street. it took firefighters more than three hours to control the blaze. the situation could have been worse if not for one brace passerby that pulled a man out of a burning home.

an investigation is underway in suffolk county after one person was found dead inside a home. police are on the scene right now on summer sweet drive in middle island. there is no word at this time on the exact circumstances surrounding the person's death. two communities are mourning the loss of a virginia police officer shot and killed

a moment of silence will be held in officer guindon's hometown. she was a marine core reservist and joined the force a year ago and took time off before being sworn in friday. she was killed the next day while responding to a domestic violence call. police are working to find out who left a severed horse head inside a box in upper manhattan. the person opened it. inside was a cooked horse head along with some fruits and vegetables and the head of another animal. >> time to check the accuweather forecast. >> let's check in with meteorologist bill evans. bill? >> good morning, everybody. we get going today with clear skies, sunshine and light wind out of the southwest. temperatures are mild around

nypd is investigating five different heavy and slow in four boroughs all over the course of about four hours. >> eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in park slope. dray? >> it was a very busy sunday morning for the nypd. the last of the accidents happened at park slope. take a look at this map laying out where the five hit and run accidents happened in brooklyn, the bronx, queens and manhattan. five within a span of four hours. three people killed, two in critical condition this morning. also overnight police released this surveillance video from the park slope accident showing the driver running a red light then hitting the victim, a 41- year-old man crossing the intersection at 5th avenue and ninth street with his bicycle when he was hit and later pronounced dead at the hospital. police are looking for the drivers involved in all five of these hit and run accidents. if you have any information, give police a call. we are live in brooklyn this morning, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news.

police took a driver into custody in connection with a hit and run crash that killed an off duty nypd officer vincent harrison. the 25-year-old officer was killed on the new jersey turnpike early sunday morning. investigators located the infinity involved in the crash and are questioning the driver. harrison worked in the 100 precinct in rockaway beach queens. parents at a manhattan charter school will rally as the building is closed following an electrical fire. the site has been shut since friday's fire. the k to 3 charter school wants the city to supply generators to reopen. students at the five high schools have been relocated. let's check in with heather. >> john del giorno is busy. this is the accident at the cross island parkway at belmont. left lane getting by. we still have police activity.
