if you were out last night you likely got caught in the downpours. this is what it looked like in chesapeake. prepare for more of this today. meteorologist jeremy wheeler is in the weather center with more on how much rain we can expect. jeremy, hopefully people got out and enjoyed the sunshine because we won't see much of it today. ("jeremy ad libs wx headlines") today: on/off rain showers. rain may be heavy at times. highs will be in the 50s early. temps will drop to the 40s through the day. winds: sw then north at 10-20mph. tonight: mostly cloudy. occasional rain showers. lows will be in the mid 30s. winds north 10-20mph. friday: a few early showers. then partly cloudy. highs will be in the mid 40s. winds north 15-20mph. a cold front is very slowly moving through the region today. a weak area of low pressure will form along the front as it moves offshore through the afternoon. this will help to keep the rain going today into tonight. localized flooding will be possible with another 1-2" of rain forecast. the front will slowly push offshore tonight, but rain will continue behind it. we'll see the rain wrap up tomorrow morning. it

this morning, a heartbroken family is asking for your prayers and help after an accident in norfolk took a young boy's life. 9-year-old lucas ballard was in a vehicle when it was hit on west 27th street and llewellyn avenue monday night. his best friend, 7-year-old keion mcclenny, survived the crash and is recovering at home this morning. tonight, loved ones plan to remember lucas' young life in moyock. 10 on your side's rico bush has more details on tonight's vigil and how you can help the family. rico - brandi, don, family and friends will gather tonight at six and pack the soccer field at moyock elementary school where lucas went to school. in the meantime, the family has set up a go-fund me page to help with funeral costs and hospital bills. we have put that information up on our

on the day of the crash, police say a pickup collided with the minivan lucas and his best friend keion mcclenny were riding in. according to investigators, the impact from the crash threw the two young boys from the vehicle. paramedics rushed both of them and the woman behind the wheel to the hospital. lucas died a short time later. it took several days for his best friend, keion to leave the hospital, but family members say he is doing well. 10 on your side spoke with his sister. c0001 - kasaera (key-share-uh) mcclenny - sister 4112 knowing that he's doing okay, i'm a little bit better about it, but i'm still in shock about my brother being in an accident and he's 7 years best friend, the only friend he was playing with, is gone 4256 it's gonna be hard to tell him. 4258 police say the mother driving the minivan, the pick-up driver and his only passenger are expected to recover. the commonwealth's attorney has not decided yet if he will file charges in this case. in our-next half hour, a special moments about

life. you'll hear from a woman who knew him best. rico bush, 10 on your side. today one of three suspects accused in a home invasion is expected in court. 18-year-old devon langley has a preliminary hearing scheduled this morning. virginia beach police believe langley, along with these two men - patrick turner and tajhai jones - broke into a home on cassady avenue back in july. they say two masked men with guns forced their way inside and demanded valuables from the victims inside. when the victims refused, the men ran away. no one was hurt. happening today, one of the suspects accused in lovell a bail hearing. lawyers representing 19- year-old natalie keepers rescheduled the hearing yesterday for later this morning at 11:00. 18-year-old david eisenhauer also faces charges in the 13-year-old's kidnapping and murder. later today the coast guard cutter bear should return back to portsmouth.

we are still working to get more information from police about these break-ins. one resident told us he called police, but as of last night, an officer still had not responded to his home. police in norfolk need your help to find an armed purse thief. take a close look at these pictures. they show a man robbing a woman last thursday afternoon on granby street near lafayette park. the 54-year-old woman told police she was unloading her car when a man grabbed her purse. she wasn't hurt. here's a look at the vehicle police believe the man drove off in. investigators say it's an acura m-d-x from the early 2000's. there's a white decal on the back window. if you have any information about this theft or this vehicle, call the crime line. new this morning police, and health officials, are investigating to determine if thousands of patients were exposed to h-i-v or hepatitis. officers in colorado believe a former surgical technician stole pain medication intended for patients,

people. the employee worked at the swedish medical center near denver. authorities say he switched out patients' i-vs to inject himself, then placed circulation. medical licensing records identified the man in question. a journalist confronted him yesterday at his home. office. still developing this morning - no one has claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion that ripped a hole in an airplane over somalia. it happened tuesday on board an daallo airlines plane. the pilot said there was a terrible explosion and thought it was a bomb. witnesses say after the explosion they saw a man on fire get sucked out of the

developing this morning, a sexual assault case against comedian bill cosby will continue. a judge in philadelphia refused to throw out the sexual assault case against the comedian. the case now now heads to trial. it stems from an incident in 2004 where andrea constand says cosby sexually assaulted her. the comic's lawyers say they will appeal. this morning technical problems are to blame if you are having trouble filing your taxes. the i-r-s says it stoppped accepting electronically filed tax returns because of a problem with one of its computer systems. that's going to delay you from filing online and getting your return. the outage could affect refunds, but the i-r-s said it did not anticipate "major disruptions." we continue our coverage at 6-30 with new information about a deadly accident in norfolk. tonight, loved ones will gather at moyock elementary school to remember a 9-year-old boy taken from his family

several charges, including child endangerment. he's been in jail since october's incident. investigators say johnson was going 74 in a 55 when state troopers tried to pull him over on interstae 64. officers johnson refused to stop and crashed here on pepper mill place off indian river road. witnesses say he casually pulled the little boy out of the car, threw him over the fence, then tried to run away. police caught up with johnson a short time later. happening today, you may see several emergency vehicles in chesapeake. naval support activity says it will hold an active shooter drill. they tell us it is part of an anti-terrorism exercise. during the drill, you could also see an increase in traffic or a delay in getting on base. this morning, a citizens group is working to recall the city treasurer. we'll show you their plan, coming up. anger over the water crisis in flint, michigan.

caught on the wrong side of the law. check this out. police in florida are looking for this man they say dressed up as batman and robbed two separate dollar stores. you can see the suspect is holding a gun as he crouches down and takes off his backpack. investigators say the armed robberies happened tuesday night in orange county. the store employees were not hurt, but the costumed-superhero turned villain is still at large.
