news out of chesapeake. police are now investigating five armed robberies. and police tell us all five are related -- and those all happened at 7-eleven stores. police say someone robbed the stores on portlock near bainbridge, south battlefield near albermarle, and battlefield and lenore. the first three robberies happened between 11 last night and four this morning. police tell us they think the same person is involved in all three. we're still working to learn more from police about the other two -- including where they happened, and whether they're also related. no one was hurt in any of the robberies. police haven't given us a suspect description, but

building in chesapeake. we first told you about this as breaking news last night at 10. the fire forced five people out of their homes off poindexter street around 9:00 last night. crews found flames coming out of the roof. no one was hurt. we talked to one of the residents -- who said -- at first, he didn't resident c0026 - 1012 in the beginning, we didn't smell anything. we didn't know what was going on, yet, hadn't came inside yet. so, you know the the street. they just ran upstairs, told to us to come outside. we come outside and we look up and it's a fire. sure enough. 1032 he and his family planned to stay with relatives. another person was working with the red cross to find a place to stay. firefighters haven't said yet what caused the fire. new this morning -- we can show you video of portsmouth police investigating a robbery. this is from last night

a verdict in a case we've been following for nearly a year. a pulaski mother has been found guilty of neglect and abuse in her son's death. last march, police say ashley white and her husband left their five-year-old son, noah, and baby daughter home alone. noah vanished. and he was found dead in a septic tank nearly a week later. the judge says white didn't kill her son, but her lack of supervision lead to his death. she will be sentenced in may. virginia's supreme court. upheld then governor bob mcdonnell's decision to reduce sentence of a man sentenced to six life terms plus 118 years. travion blount took part in an armed robbery in 2006 when he was 15 years old.
deal. mcdonnell reduced the sentence to 40 years before leaving office. defense attorneys may try to appeal yesterday's decision, so it can heard in federal court. an update on the fight for the light rail. the state of virginia says bring it to virginia beach or give up the money. we first reported the plan from transportation secretary aubrey layne to take back 155 million dollars of state money last year, but now it's in writing. we obtained a letter dated friday --- from the governor's office to delegate ron villanueva. part of it says - if the city decides against the light rail extension - layne wants the money projects. least, that's the proposal from a lawmaker in kentucky. you'll hear the reasons from her in our next fifteen minutes. but first -- texas authorities make a shocking discovery. how they say a man hid his mother's body for years.
s/ victor eventually turns into a authorities shot and killed the suspect. two high school students in arizona died in what police are calling a murder suicide. the sister of one of the victims identified her. school officials found may kieu and another sophomore girl dead at independence high school yesterday morning. police believe the two girls were dating, and one of them fatally shot the other before shooting herself. phuong kieu is a teacher at the school her sister attended. she says her sister was extremely happy and well-liked by everyone. s/phuong kieu/victim's sister :14 "i think may would wants us to be watching spongebob and she cries. i think she'd want us to be happy and move on." a vigil will be held at the high school today. phuong has set up a go-fund-me page to raise money for her sister's funeral expenses.
funeral expenses. a standoff between texas authorities and a man suspected in the disappearance of his mother ended with a startling discovery. police say kenneth barton barricaded himself inside when investigators came to execute a search warrant. negoitiators were talking to him on the phone, when they heard gunshots. right after that, the house caught on fire. investigators found barton dead inside. then they made a shocking discovery. authorities found his mother's body in a freezer behind the house. francis barton was 78-years-old when she disappeared three years ago. the snow has come and gone here, but of course other parts of the country deal with it on a constant basis. snow in michigan caused parts of a major highway to shutdown. two separate accidents, involving several cars were reported on i-94.. the first happened around 11:30 yesterday morning. nine cars and four semi got caught up in it. the second crash happened about a mile away, and that one involved eight cars
