the same thing. they are doing it because they have seen a spike in car thefts, from november to a few days ago in february, 85 vehicles with keys in the ignition, up 67% last year. >> they are stolen usually by juveniles, skipping school, or breaking into houses. it is one of the things, if we can lower that number, it helps many other areas. >> reporter: officers are hoping you think twice before you leave your keys in the ignition. it only takes a few seconds for somebody to get in your car and take it away. >> anchor: police are searching for the person they say shot a man in northwest charlotte, early this morning, on mcdonald street not far from the high

the victim was shot three times in the leg. he was taken to the hospital in serious condition. it is not clear what led to the shooting. investigators are looking into the blaze that killed several oakdale. officials say two horses, a lab, fire. no other injuries were report. the driver of a tractor-trailer is recovering after the vehicle overturned this morning iredell county. the incident happened i-77 northbound at mile marker 65 near highway 901. officials say the truck was carrying logs. part of the area was closed for a time, but it has reopened. no word on the cause or the condition of the driver. two local high school basketball teams have been banned for playing post season this year, north carolina hastthetic association says the two high schools are not allowed to compete in the playoffs after a

even snow in the high country. now we are going to clear out. it will warm up nicely as we roll into the weekend. take a live look from our hd tower cam provided by scott clark, partly cloudy skies now, we are starting to warm up in the lower 50's here in the charlotte area. 52 now, humidity, 53. winds are calm, the visibility 10 miles. the neighborhoods, upper 40's and low 50's, 55 mountain island lake, it is 49 in heritage, 53 at the arboretum and ballantine. upper 40's, mid 30's. part of that-wise you have fresh snow on the ground, so that refrequents a lot of the heat of the sun rays, chilly in the mountains in the mid 30's. a few clouds here, and to the east. those clouds banking up against the crest of the appalachian, thicker in the mountains this afternoon.

temperatures, again, locked in, so we are in the 50's here, 30 in the mountains, 32 chicago, 25 toward minneapolis. that ridge will build the next couple days, and we will see temperatures warm up, 6:00 p.m. tonight, again, it is that northwest up-slope flow boone and blowing rock, could give you a scattered shower. i don't think we will see much in terms of accumulating snow. then we clear out nicely overnight, from thursday into friday, high pressure builds in. we get a nice southerly flow and a big time warm-up in the weekend. look at the next three days. chilly tomorrow, 43 boone, 46 friday, 54 saturday, 61 in asheville. charlotte, mostly sunny the next three days, from 58 friday into the mid 60's, even upper 60's coming up sunday. beautiful day at the beach, salisbury, 62 friday, 71 saturday, 67 coming up saturday afternoon. and here's your seven-day forecast. again, not too terribly warm the next couple days.

weekend saturday and sunday. so overnight lows are in the low 30's. 54 tomorrow afternoon. mostly sunny skies, 58 friday. 65 saturday. we will see an increasing cloud cover coming up on sunday. mostly cloudy by sunday night. then monday into tuesday, rain chances persist, from monday evening into tuesday, and highs are cooler again in the upper 40's. looking at the longer range computer models we could be talking about another significant round of wet weather coming up tuesday, wednesday, and even into thursday, certainly something to keep an eye on the next couple days. right now, we will concentrate on sunshine and warm in the weekend saturday and sunday. >> anchor: thank you. i am here with the humane society of charlotte. marvin, such a sweet boy. >> he really is. he is an eight-year-old lab. retriever mix. he is the sweetest, loveable dog.

on how students should be assigned to the schools they attend. cms increased diversity of its classes through the district. they hope to provide children with broader exposure, first, they want to hear from the community about how they can achieve those goals. for example, how far is too far to ride a bus to the school of your choice, what is more important, class size or curriculum options? these are important questions, and we think parent input is a great idea. this won't work if we don't all speak out and share our ppction with the school system. if there's low participation, or not enough representation from all the families who make up cms how can things change for the better? the deadline is february 22. we encourage you to complete the survey today. visit the website for a link to the survey. or call your child's school to get a paper copy.
