in the trial in rowan county. alex giles is live with that. >> our media partners at time-warner cable confirmed this. a jury returned a verdict of guilty in this murder trial. that suspect 37-year-old maurice robinson is guilty of first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. he planned the robbery at a convenience store and got the gun used to kill the store owner and planned other armed robberies and we know the jury returned a verdict of guilty in this case. we will continue following any courtroom developments that we get. >> late breaking news thank you. >> a bill allowing school employees in south carolina to carry guns on campus put on hold for now. the republican who is sponsoring the bill says he wants to protect the safety of children in rural schools that cannot afford a police officer. some lawmakers say in the house they are not happy with the idea
carry guns after only two weeks of training. >> a south carolina mother accused of exposing her infant to cocaine. caitlyn barnett has been charged with child neglect. the department of social services said the baby girl is less than a-month-old and tested positive for the drug. >> a man flown to carolinas medical center after he hit a deer while on a moped. it happened and the south carolina highway patrol is investigating that collision. >> footage so shows the moments a man walked into a cvs and pointed a gun at employees and demanded prescription drugs. now, law enforcement in chesterfield county need your help finding the man. michael clark has more on the motive behind this armed robbery first at 4:00. >> right now investigators are not sure if the robber stole the pills to get a fix or resell them for a huge profit on the streets. look at the video from inside
pageland police say the man knew what he was after taking $500 of hydrocodone pills. this happened before noon when a handful of workers written side but no customers. a detective said all of the pills could net around $9,000 on the street. the prescription drugs can be addictive and abused. the robber was in and out of the cvs within 3-4 minutes. it's difficult to get a good look through that video because he seems to know when to turn his head. right now investigators are checking with businesses near the cvs to see if video caught the suspect leaving. it's believed he left in a car. if you know anything call pageland police, michael clark wbtv on your side. >> all right. thank you. and moved over to the first alert weather center with our meteorologist brock prok. leigh brock. gorgeous monday. >> so nice even though it is a monday, i do not think anybody

wbtv news starts right now. >> right now at 5:00 a unc charlotte student diagnosed with mumps. tonight we are live and on your side with what you need to know to protect your family. >> first, death and devastation in cleveland county. >> i just heard a big boom. >> a husband and wife killed after a crash causes a propane tank explosion leveling this home. we are hearing from the couple's family in a live report. witnesses say the explosion sounded like an earthquake. i'm paul cameron. >> maureen o'boyle terribly sad. family, friends and neighbors are in mourning right now after the couple's tragic death. this is an image of the couple's home before the crash. the newtons were in bed when a car slammed into the propane tank next to their home and the tank exploded. steve ohnesorge is live where it happened.
trouble spot before? >> well, it absolutely has been on stagecoach trail. there have been several accidents reported. the speed limit is 35. but still people tend to go fast at times. they hit this fence a couple of times. twice in the past year and another accident that slammed into the couple's car but no one dreamed that a truck would come off the road and cause an explosion that would take two lives. the son sifted through the debris of his old home and others, too, for any family keepsakes. but it does mean something to them. this is more than a home destroyed it is a family devastated. 7 4-year-old jd newton and his 7 six-year-old wife were killed. they were in bed when it happened at 10:30 last night. >> a big boom. >> a pickup truck failed to make
newton home and into a propane tank. >> something off a movie. >> the truck and house were on fire and neighbors spotted the couple at the doorway. jim's son went to help. >> my son was waving his arms trying to get the attention to the lady get out. >> as the couple stepped out a second explosion tore the place apart. neighbors found the couple in the splinters and carried them to safety and jd was only concerned about nay ohmmy. >> take care of his wife. >> he was hurt bad? >> yes. >> the two died hours later at the hospital. the driver of the truck survived. the investigation is underway. they will let the district attorney decide about charges. as for the search for a family mow money tows goes on. jewelry and paper, too. looking for pieces of the shattered lives.
