central avenue at 2:30 this morning. he is charged with driving while impaired and felony hit-and-run. breaking news. early morning shooting in mount holly now a homicide investigation. alex giles is live in the alert center. >> we have gotten the identity of the victim and it happened in gaston county. this is 37-year-old shemarry lewis from north carolina he was the father of a five-month-old child. lewis had been shot outside of a mount holly and gaston county near the extension. police think it happened during a large party. christian flores spoke with neighbors and authorities and we will have more on wbtv news at 5:30. back to you. >> thank you. right now for the second time in less than a week, a local school has closed due to possible noro virus.

faculty members became sick with noro virus like systems. faculty members attended a catered lunch. 50-70 people came down with the symptoms. so far noro virus has not been confirmed and the health department is awaiting test results. metro school of charlotte closed last week due to a posible noro virus outbreak. >> unc charlotte student diagnosed with mumps and this is the third case of the illness in mecklenberg county. steve crump is on your side with details. any concern now for any of the other students at unc charlotte? >> well, paul, here is what we found out this afternoon we got word from the mecklenberg county health department that everyone associated with this campus will be notified by e-mail. but when you talk to students they will tell you on the surface they are not impacted yet.

at this moment three confirmed and four probable n my view, that means we got seven cases. >> by the numbers health officials say charlotte area averages about two cases of mumps per year and the medical director has a warning for local families. >> if you're sick stay at home. if your kids are sick keep them home. >> unc charlotte is the location of concern. a spokesperson tells wbtv that one case has been confirmed here. the student lives in off campus housing and remains in isolation. students we caught up feel there is no need to sound the alarm. >> i mean i am not concerned there is a lot of different things going around colds and stuff germs. >> i'm not too worried about it. >> there are a lot of things but we have been vaccinated we had to be for a lot of things. >> i'm not worried about it. >> the doctor says the key in

top of vaccinations. >> so the advice is the same as what we have been saying check your vaccination records because that is one way that we can help protect people. >> we received a statement from the university and they do cop firm that one case and are concerned about another case and they did testing and that second case ended up being negative. live in unc charlotte steve crump wbtv on your side. >> good news there thank you. right now a wild chase in uptown charlotte ended with a man back in police custody after he escaped while being treated at the hospital. police say the man was arrested saturday for cutting off his ankle monitor. he escaped from the hospital at 2:00 p.m. he was caught a short distance away. on south kings drive. a female officer chased and tackled the suspect.

save this dying toddler's life. >> video that defies logic with a tornado bearing down the driver of a fedex truck runs for shelter. and there goes the tornado. look to the left. trying to get in a locked door in louisiana. she braces herself and then here comes the twister. and she gets tossed around but she is going to escape without serious injury. and wait. worst of it is not yet.

there it is. the tornado goes through and she gets up and walks away. >> incredible. right now, the man charged in the murder of a charlotte business owner jesse campbell is being extradited to york. kevin dejesus is accused in the killing of campbell in his lake wylie home. michael clark is live with the latest on the extradition and you have been following the case for a while. what is the latest? >> mauer lean dejesus is back in and folks were shaken up when the murder happened in north carolina and south carolina. now to give you background dejesus was picked up this morning just before 9:00 a.m. and taken to the justice center to talk with york county investigators that extradition required a governor's warrant and he will be booked into jail

and then will go before a magistrate for the murder charge. dejesus was accused of shooting and killing jesse campbell in january. and it was the first york county homicide. investigators say campbell's clover south carolina he crashed into a tree leaving campbell's home after the crime. and detectives used tips and vehicle parts to track him down in charlotte and recovered the vehicle believed to be the truck that dejesus drove from the crime scene. dejesus was a temporary employee for campbell but no motive was given for this shooting. again, dejesus is from honduras and needed an interpreter for the court appearances. and we expect him to go before a magistrate tonight or tomorrow morning. reporting live in york county michael clark wbtv on your side. >> thank you. time to check the traffic around town here is tonya rivens. >> thank you.

>> a man who stole a dump-truck and led deputies on a high speed chase was sentenced to seven years in federal prison. sky3 was live when the chase ended in troutman. we watched as james call held officers at bay for three hours with a gun. call had lost his job and robbed a produce stand.

in need of a liver transplant is alive. thanks to the help of fedex. they learned wednesday that doctors found a donor for their daughter brooklyn and the family needed to be in chicago by 10:00 a.m. the next day but all 700 flights out of memphis were canceled due to weaer. after learning of the plight via social media, fedex flew the family on a corporate cargo plane to brooklyn's surgery at no cost. >> the fact they were able to come through when no one else was flying into chicago was amazing. >> brooklyn's mom says the procedure is done there is a long road to recovery. brooklyn will need to be monitored. a party turns deadly. >> neighbors who live up the street from the home where the shooting happened tell us they called police the night before. we asked today why wasn't the

the home the night before. thank you for joining us i'm molly grantham. >> i'm jamie boll. glad you are with us. this is the mount holly home where gaston county police upwards of 300 people partied saturday night. there were other parties here at the home this weekend. only is the day night's ended with gunfire. and one man dead. we learned that person was 37-year-old shemarry lewis, a father of a five-month-old child. christian flores has new information tonight. >> the way they fly up and down the street you have to be careful. >> neighbors remember how many cars were driving up and down the street friday and saturday night. james lives on the road and says he did not pay much attention to what was happening. >> i don't know what goes on and i do not care. >> sunday morning the weekend's parties became more than a public disturbance it was the

shot at the party and died after being brought to the hospital by party goers. the gaston county police department confirmed hundreds of people were at the party that night. >> charlotte had a big weekend with the ciaa and this party was a bit of an off shoot of that. >> calls to police date back to the previous night when officers responded to three calls from neighbors for noise complaints. >> officers found no violations as far as parking or noise. >> neighbors called the police all weekend this was out of the ordinary. >> we got great neighbors them people down there they are wonderful people. >> after an incident like this weekend's shooting, hefner is going to be alert. he and gaston county officers say the neighborhood is lucky the shooting did not hurt or kill more people. >> we've got six and seven-year-old kids that play up and down this road all day long. >> a party upwards of 300 people
