on the job for less than 24 hours, a young officer gunned down, killed in the line of duty just a day after she was sworn in. tonight we know officer ashley grew up here in new england. >> she graduated from high school back in 2005 and was a marine corps reservist. last night she was responding to a do domestic violence call when she was shot. the police chief spoke about losing his new officer. >> our condo lances go out lances go out to her family. we're asking for thoughts and prayers as we monitor the conditions of our other two officers who remain hospitalized.

serious. we have the latest with jim. >>reporter: police here in worcester in the middle of an intense investigation, and it all has to do with a very disturbing incident that happened earlier today downtown. we want to show you video now that we obtained earlier today of investigators here at the scene. according to multiple scanner reports, police are looking for the driver of a minivan who is said to have backed over two pedestrians and then allegedly struck them again before taking off. the victims were taken to the hospital with what are described as serious injuries. police reportedly are looking for the minivan possibly operated by a female driver. worcester police have not released official information, but as we could see, investigators were here the balance of the afternoon collecting evidence. this is a very busy street on sunday mornings and early

they have a flea market here every week, and at that is apparently where it happened. police are trying to get clues and catch up with the driver, and two people with hospitalized unfortunately with serious injuries. jim smith, wbz news. another developing story tonight in chelsea where police are investigating a suspicious death of a man found on a sidewalk early this morning. investigators say the 34-year- old victim was discovered on cottage street at about 5 a.m. arriving officers tried to help him at the scene, and paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he later died. the district attorney takes over the investigation, and police are not yet releasing the name. a dog is right back where it belongs after a car crash on the runway. a reunion when its owner got into a car accident. frankie ran off when the accident happened, but a good

took him to reunite with the man and his wife today. >> i don't know how he got away from me. i don't know where the leash is. i don't know if he pulled out of it. he has a habit of backing out of the leash and trying to take off all the time, so it's a possibility that's how he got off. >> frankie was not hurt, but his owner is recovering from minor injuries from the crash. i know it's still february, but plenty of folks working in the yard or walking the dog, a beautiful day all around. pamela has the first look at the forecast. >> amazing temperatures, the official high in boston 58. we're holding in the '50s in a lot of spots.

high 63 setback in 1976. that will still stand, but hey close to a record warm day. we'll take it. fifty-one still in boston, down to 54 degrees in manchester, 54 in lawrence and 40s on the cape and islands just because we have the southwest wind coming off the cooler ocean water that's about 40 degrees. that's keeping our friends slightly cooler there. notice the temperature gradient here. burlington is much cooler, 23 degrees. yesterday we were in the 30s. we're running again in the '50s and 40s. we're 15 degrees warmer in boston right now. enjoy. wind gusts from the southwest between 20-30 in most spots. we have a 29-mile-per-hour gust in boston. the southwest wind sticks

tomorrow keeping the temperatures elevated. mostly clear overnight tonight and 42 degrees with some of the suburbs reaching the upper 30s. temperatures will still be in the '50s, 56 for beverly, boston, bedford and even further inland, most locations reaching these temperatures. hour by hour forecast and our next chance of rain moves in monday morning. 8 a.m. for that. just after the morning commute it when we'll see the first few showers moving through the area. a lingering shower behind the cold front, otherwise looking pretty dry for most of the day on monday.

another system is to the north. tuesday we're all dry because that will fizzle out. the next big system, 5 p.m. on tuesday starting to develop out in the midwest. once it heads our way going into wednesday and early thursday we could haveheavy rain from the system. it does look like it will stay in the warm sector, but it's going to be a soccer. after that told temperatures on the way, almost a return to winter with 36 degrees by the end of the seven-day forecast. thank you, pam. we appreciate it. the bruins are taking on the lightning right now. and the latest on the erickson trade talks coming up
