and right now on nbc 10 news today, it is primary day for the democrats in south carolina. latest poll shows hillary clinton closing in on a win over bernie sanders before next week's critical super tuesday contest. and chris christie is now stumping for that man on the campaign trail. he stunned the republican establishment with his endorsement of donald trump and we have reaction. and now let's look outside. here's a live look at i believe that's the ben franklin bridge. we are starting off with some clouds, but we will expect to see sunny skies later today and we are in for a warm up.
that is on the way. good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm katy zachary. it is just 5:00 a.m. on your saturday. a weekend warm up is in store. let's get all the details with meteorologist michelle grossman. >> pretty big warm up on sunday. today nice, also. sunny skies. it will be quiet, but it is going to be cold despite that sunshine. temperatures only in the low 40s today. a live look outside. we are still dark on this saturday morning and a little bit of cloud cover this morning and see sunny skies later on this afternoon. look at these temperatures, every spot below freezing right now. if you're out and about as early as we are this morning, you will see those temperatures 29 in philadelphia and 19 in mt. pocono and 23 degrees in atlantic city and 30 in wildwood. so, as we factor in the winds, the winds not too bad right now and we will be breezy this afternoon. still feeling colder than it actually is and feels like 11 in
mt. pocono and 21 in philadelphia and 23 in atlantic city. so, let's plan the rest of your day for you. plan on some sunglasses and plan on the jacket. by 31 by lunchtime and mostly sunny skies and 40 degrees and by 4:00, 44. pretty nice day despite that chill and then we are tracking rain and snow in your seven-day. winter's not over and we'll talk more about that coming up. >> michelle, thank you. we do have breaking news in philadelphia's east mt. erie neighborhood. police evacuated a three-story building because of an apparent carbon monoxide leak. we are working to learn their ages and condition. we will continue to follow this breaking news and bring you updates as we get them. turning now to decision 2016. today is presidential primary day for the democrats in south carolina. bernie sanders and hillary clinton face off in that first
in the south contest for the dems. nbc 10 drew smith is live in our digital operation center with a preview for us. >> we'll learn if hillary clinton has solidified her path to the nomination or if the sanders' campaign still has life. the candidates made their fin final -- the latest polls show clinton maintaining a double-digit lead over bernie sanders in south carolina. here's some of what the candidates had to say. >> i need your help in this primary to be able to go out of south carolina, to go to those states that are holding their primaries and caucuses on tuesday, so-called super tuesday. >> i am here to ask your support. i am here to ask you to help me change the priorities of this country so that we have a government that works for all of us.
>> today's contest leads into next week's super tuesday primary when voters in a dozen states go to the polls. then in late july the democrats will be here in philadelphia for their nominating convention. live in the digital operation center, i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. another batch of hillary clinton's e-mails are now out there. yesterday the state department released more than 1,500 pages of documents. portions were labeled confidential, which is the lowest classification. now, none of the e-mails from the time clinton was secretary of state was marked classified when they were sent. new jersey governor chris christie is now onboard with donald trump. christie made headlines by endorsing trump's bid for the republican presidential nomination. governor christie said he revisited negative comments that he made about trump in the past. he said he now thinks the billionaire businessman will be the best leader for the country. the governor wasted no time in campaigning for donald trump in texas and oklahoma yesterday. christie ended his white house
bid earlier this month, but he reemerged to break ranks with the gop establishment and throw his support behind trump. he also took time to mock the establishment's candidate, marco rubio. >> marco rubio, your campaign is almost over, buddy. >> i certainly think if we see a donald trump presidency, that we could see chris christie in the cabinet be it attorney general, secretary of state or homeland security head. >> you'll hear from some new jersey voters who think christie's endorsement is just part of the story. the trump/christie announcement robbed marco of momentum. here's reaction from the florida senator. >> look, chris is an articulate guy and donald needs a lifeline after last night and he called in chris christie, i respect that. >> he is a conman who is taking advantage of people's fears and

>> i have my son's blood on my hands. a mother traumatized after delaware county police shoot her son in her home. he should not be charged after a confrontation with officers because he suffers from schizophrenia. the delaware district attorney office filed aggravated assault charges against garrison. this morning he is out of a coma and recovering in the hospital. he is from sharon hill and called 911 on tuesday night. his parents say he was delusional claiming he had been abducted. according to prosecutors officers who were aware of garrison's mental illness tasered him and shot him when he came after them with a kitchen knife. he slashed the face of one the officers who was responding. her mother believes shooting him was excessive given his condition. >> he has rights. i feel he was violated in every way and almost lost his life in front of his mother.
>> the family is now focused on making sure their son recover from the gunshot wound and properly treated for his mental illness. authorities have not released any information about the officer who was injured. >> nobody knows what we have gone through other than ourselves. a community mourns the murders of three people gunned down in a workplace shooting in kansas. police shot and killed that gunman and still ahead we'll tell you why they charged his girlfriend in connection with the crime. plus a man accused of posing as a pennsylvania honor student faces new charges. we'll have more on the crimes police say he committed.
sunshine and breezy also this afternoon. a live look outside. we are looking from our melon camera. still dark this morning a few clouds outside but we will see sunshine as we head throughout the rest of our day here. 25 degrees right now in kenton and 25 in washington township and 26 in chester springs. north and west, we're in the teens in some spots. 19 in mt. pocono. feels more like 11 there and 18 in shenandoah and waking up to just 23 degrees in doyeltown. we're going to see them pretty breezy later on this afternoon not windy like yesterday but still between 10 and 15 miles per hour later on this afternoon. despite all that sunshine and cold and breezy and we'll end up around 47 degrees. we're below average and tomorrow way above normal and nice into the weekend and we'll talk more about that, coming up.

yoko ono is expected to be released from a new york hospital after being treated for the flu. fire officials say an ambulance was called to ono's manhattan apartment building. media reports that she suffered a stroke are not true. the widow of john lennon is 83 years old. >> nobody knows what we have gone through other than ourself. emotions ran deep in rural kansas last night. a community held a memorial vigil for the three people killed when a gunman went on a rampage at his workplace. police shot and killed the suspect, cedric ford. now, police did make an arrest in the case yesterday. authorities charged ford's ex-girlfriend with giving him guns, even though he was a convicted felon. sarah hopkins could get up to ten years in prison if she's convicted. authorities say the gunman was served with a protective order involving another ex-girlfriend just before the rampage thursday.
police say ford used a rifle and a handgun to wound people at random. ford then stole a car and drove to the manufacturing plant where he worked and opened fire there. a police officer confronted ford inside the plant. >> this man was not going to stop shooting. the only reason he stopped shooting is because that officer stopped the shooter. >> now along with the three people killed more than a dozen others were injured in the rampage. well a man is dead after he was hit by a van in philadelphia chestnut hill neighborhood. this is the scene around 7:00 last night. police say the man was walking on the road when he was hit by a car. the driver of the van stayed on scene. now to an unholy act caught on camera. take a look at this surveillance video that shows a suspected thief sneaking into a northeast philadelphia church. what he did not know is that officers were waiting for him inside. yeah, they chased william
outside and then arrested him and then the two officers are seen on video giving each other a high five. they said sides had been stealing money out of the collection box. sides is charged with criminal burglary and trespassing and other offenses. >> the gentleman running out. the officers right behind him, tackle him down at the steps and, of course, they frisked him and handcuffed him and off to jail. >> police say sides claims that he found a key to the church in the parking lot. well, authorities say a man from the ukraine who posed as a pennsylvania high school teen is now accused of a sex crime. police in harrisburg arrested artur samarin. he is charged with corruption of minors. samarin is already in jail for identity theft. the charges stem from a
relationship back in 2015. investigators say samarin attended harrisburg high school pretending to be an honor student named asscher pots. this morning the irs says the number of taxpayers who had their information hacked in a cyberattack is a lot more than first thought. the agency says the breach may be seven times larger, that would put the number of taxpayers at risk at more than 700,000. authorities discovered the hack last may. a review found it actually started in february of last year. the irs says the sensitive information can be used for identity theft or to get tax refunds illegally. the thieves hacked into a system where taxpayers can get returns and other filings from previous years. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> well, we're off to a cold start this morning. all temperatures below freezing. most temperatures in the 20s. it feels like the teens in many, many spots outside. weather headlines on your
saturday morning. a lot of sunshine today. a nice-looking day. nice and quiet, but it will be cold and it will be breezy. not as windy as yesterday, but, still, breezy this afternoon. warmer on sunday, if you like warm weather, you'll love it. temperatures near 60 degrees and the breeze still in place and a lot warmer. and then we are tracking more snow and more rain and that will come later this week by thursday into friday. right now 29 degrees in philadelphia. we dahave clouds outside and we will see those clouds clearing out of here and sunshine as we head throughout the afternoon. the wind out of the west at 8 miles per hour. 8 degrees colder compared to this time yesterday and some spots colder than that and temperatures across the region were cold and 20s across the region. 19 in mt. pocono and 27 in allentown and 29 this morning in philadelphia. you're waking up to the 20s south and east of philadelphia, as well. 23 in atlantic city and 27 right now in dover and 22 in millvale. we still have a wind chill this morning and it feels colder than it actually is. feels like the teens in so many
spots. feels like just 11 in mt. pocono and 18 in redding and the wind chill right now 29 degrees. it is cold. that's the bottom line this morning. you want tabundle up as you head out. by this afternoon still cold and that warm up comes tomorrow. still clouds in place and it is still dark and sunshine as we head throughout our saturday. you want to bring your sunglasses. northwesterly flow and that's always a cold flow and that's what we're seeing this morning. winds from five to ten miles per hour and by this afternoon we will see winds from 10 to 15 miles per hour. we will have sunshine, that's the good news. partly cloudy for your saturday night plans and temperatures dropping back to the 20s and 30s. by sunday our big-time warm up and it will be breezy and sunshine still. then monday we're going to be mild, as well. temperatures in the upper 50s and that lasts until tuesday and then things begin to change wednesday into thursday. cold and breezy today. 41 to 45.
