>> we'll get back to tracy in cleveland in just a moment. good morning, everyone. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm katy zachry. just 5:00 a.m. on your wednesday. let's start with the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. shaping up to be a nice one, bill. >> it will be a beautiful one. there's one spot i'm watching. we've been tracking showers and thunderstorms since we've gone on the air at 4:00. this storm is dying out. still downpours are within it. it's moving to the southeast at 20 miles an hour. that's going to have us heading toward the shore. sea isle city, most of the rain will be dry and pless and. lower humidity, first thing in the morning, you get cooler temperatures. it is indeed temperature. 63 degrees in the lehigh valley. 72 degrees in delaware, now 72 also in philadelphia. 60s for the suburbs. a nice afternoon. 80s today.
that'sç typical summer heat wi low humidity and sunshine through the day. i'll still be watching for an isolated shower in new jersey and central and southern delaware. most of those locations will stay dry. we'll go through it hour by hour. it's a wednesday morning. let's check in with jessica boyington with first alert traffic. >> we had an off ramp around broad street blocked off with police activity. right now we're back in business. no big problems or delays. all of that police activity has moved out of the way of the off ramp. egg harbor township in new jersey, watch for an accident on the garden state parkway still being reported, heading southbound around exit 36, which is route 322. over into the right-hand lane and shoulder as well. lanes still are moving by. over in mt. laurel, new jersey, route 73 around church road. we do have lane restrictions as well. that's just from ongoing
construction. otherwise lanes are open and traffic is moving along. more updates on your morning drive when i'm back within the next ten minutes. lock her up! lock her up! lock her up! lock her up! lock her up! >> they are chaptering "lock her up" on night two of the republican national convention here in cleveland. christie laid out his case for what he called clinton's leadership failures. he prosecuted a multiprong case against hillary clinton, in effect. the crowd responded to the litany of charges against her. >> in china and syria -- >> hillary. >> in iron, ruan, russia and cu
>> hillary. >> and lying to cover it all up here in america -- >> hillary. >> christie wrapped up with a call to defeat clinton and make donald trump the next president. trump officially won the republican party's nomination last night and the delegation from his home state of new york put him over the top. now, gop delegates embraced christie's criticism of hillary clinton including the delegation, meshes of the delegation from new jersey and pennsylvania. i talked with them right after christie's speech. >> i think christie think the it home. he's in the best form possible in front of a crowd setting forth the reasons why hillary clinton should not be elected president of the united states. >> the governor was motivational. he was stark. he drew a stark contrast between the choices that we have to make. he gave a great speech. >> those are just two of the reviews of governor christie's takedown of hillary clinton last night. clinton tweeted out this response to christie's
criticisms of her -- if you think chris christie can lecture anyone on ethics we have a bridge to sell you and the campaign linked to an article about the bridgegate scandal. showers earlier, clinton said watching the rnc was surreal and compared it to "the wizard of oz." >> sound and fury, even a fog machine. when you pulled back the curtain it was just donald trump with nothing to offer to the american people! >> clinton also repeated her previous criticisms of donald trump's bankruptcies in atlantic city saying they caused destruction in the resorttown. now, another of trump's former rivals, former republicaç presidential candidate ben carson associated clinton with the devil. he said one of clinton's mentors wrote a book dedicated to lucifer. >> so are we willing to elect someone as president who has as their role model somebody who
acknowledges lucifer? think about that. >> carson also criticized what he called clinton's secular progressive agenda. for a time last night, videos from the gop convention ended up on vice president's joe biden's twitter account. twitter says the tweet came from a twitter mirror tablet that biden's office used at a cancer event. a technical glitch kept it from locking out of biden's account. the tweets were eventually deleted. jim ronz field and lauren mayk will take over reporting on the convention tonight. stay up to date on nbc10.com or the nbc 10 app. a quick reminder, around the clock coverage, live reports from the rnc will be ahead in this hour. we are following breaking
news out of new york city where a manhunt is under way for four men accused at firing shots at nypd officers. police say the four men drove past the police officers who werage foot ae agon foot and fi as they were walking. it's not clear if the officers returned fire. we're following breaking news this morning from chester county. this is a live look at a fire at a mushroom farm in tukemama. 1,000 bails of hay, we're told, are burning. they do tell us it's under control. there are no reports of any injuries. 5:06. this morning we're learning new details about explosives found inside a car in north philadelphia. nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us outside police headquarters in center city. investigators say this whole thing started with a simple traffic stop. >> that's right, vai. police have spent the night
questioning this driver, trying to figure out his motives, why he would have explosive devices in his van. take a look at video from overnight. this was just before 10:00 at 20th and champlost. police found that white mini van double parked. the officers went up to the driver. they noticed a strong smell of marge math and noticed two 3-year-olds and what looked like fireworks in that van. the bomb squad was called out. some of these devices were home made, which was troubling to them. >> it's a big concern to us, especially with the democratic national convention coming up. we're not too happy about finding anyone with explosive devices in this city. >> again, questioning under way to figure out what the intent was here. the fireworks and explosives were confiscated from that van. the 31-year-old driver was arrested and is facing a number
of charges this morning. for now, live at philadelphia police headquarters, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. workers at philadelphia international airport are promising more protests like this one. skyforce 10 above terminal "a" yesterday as hundreds of employees and their supporters marched for better pay and benefits. they carry a sign that says respect black workers. this was the scene from the ground. baggage handlers andç wheelcha attendants were among those who walked out. they want $15 an hour and to belong to a union. . crystal clear view the city from the adventure aquarium. it's a bill cooler than yesterday with clear skies and lower humidity this morning. the temperatures have dropped down. we're in for a sunny and warm day. just like yesterday, the humidity is going to stay low.
making for another pleasant evening. heading out right now, in new jersey, we have rain that just moved through the vineland area. that was a thunderstorm. it's settled down a bit. 60s for trenton and mt. holly. look at the 60s for allentown and coatesville, running cooler for coatesville, down 4 degrees, 6 degrees cooler in trenton, off by 7 degrees in mount holly. that drier air allows the temperatures to go down. we'll see them warm up during the day. a northerly flow during the day. while on the beach, you'll find a sea breeze. it will get near the 80 degrees mark. we are seeing showers and thunderstorms exit the delaware beaches. we've seen heavy rainfall that's moved through cumberland county, completely dry for the lehigh valley, for harrisburg, wilmington, trenton and philadelphia. and those showers that are moving through south jersey, heading toward the shore right now are starting to die out. a brief shower to start with this morning, isolated shower is
possible during the day. corbin city is getting that rainfall right now. it's going to be crossing the beach in just the next few minutes. looks like most of that will miss atlantic city. avalon, you'll see a few rain drops before things clear out. it will be clearing out. lots of sunshine, 70s turn into 80s this afternoon for philadelphia. low 70s to start with. sunshine and 80 degrees at lunch time and 84 degrees this afternoon and another beautiful day in the lehigh valley. completely dry. delaware and south jersey, keeping an eye for the chance of an isolated shower. 83 degrees at 4:00 this afternoon in delaware. starting in the 70s and at the shore while the shower chance will be around the jersey shore, at lunch time today, you'll see sunshine later on and 81 degrees. low 80s for new jersey. but much hotter weather is on the way, maybe you've noticed that with the seven day at the bottom of the screen. we have the ten-day outlook when
i'm back in just a few minutes. vai, you weren't here yesterday. bill and i worked the 11 together. i thought today was the better of the two days. bill said yesterday was nice, too, but my money is on today. >> the schuylkill may be clear right now. >> it is clear right now, vai and katy. it's really early, of course. we always deal with a lot of big problems and delays on schuylkill. this is the schuylkill around the roosevelt boulevard. right around route 1, no big problems in either direction. this is a tricky spot later on in the morning commute. right now into center city, 12 minutes eastbound from the vine street expressway and speeds are still into the 60s. the blue route looks great as well. no problems with drive times as well. 15 minutes north or southbound. speeds into the 60s. watching construction, this is an ongoing project that will be out there until october. remington road is closed twin

i'm tracy davidson, live from the republican national convention in cleveland where donald trump was made official. he was made the official nominee of the republican party just a few hours ago. delegates from his home state of new york put him over the top. he thanked the delegates in a video address from new york. >> what we did getting the party's nomination. i'll never forget it. it's something i will never, ever forget. >> trump will deliver his acceptance speech in cleveland on thursday. now, trump's son, donald trump jr. won praise about his speech but was criticized in a daily show tweet that part of the address was plagiarized from a book from speechwriter frank buckley. a however trump spokesperson
worked with him on the speech. buckley confirmed trump jr. had his pre-approval to use those statements. along with speaking out all the newsmakers here at the convention, our nbc 10 crews are tight with the local delegates. we've been talking with them, staying with them throughout the days we've been here. when we're not with them, they're sending us pictures of what they're doing. this is a picture val degorgio spent us. they spent down time at a party at power house. pennsylvania delegates continue to be excited about their right up front status. here's one of our favorite delegates, dennis palmer of

turnpike. the turnpike commission approved a 6% toll increase. it's due to the cost of rebuilding and widening roads. it's part of a newly approved ten-year, $5.7 billion spending plan. cash customers will pay more. the increase begins after midnight on january 7th. speaking of the turnpike, tolls, everything related to traffic. >> what better time, you know, than now to bring in jessica boyington with a look at 202, right? >> not a toll road but still a heavily trafficked road. >> we're doing okay right now. i'll show you what i mean by that. northbound from 29 to the schuylkill expressway from our cameras around route 202 at 29 right now is only still a seven-minute trip. speeds into the 60s still as well. no problems on 202.
the garden state parkway headed southbound right around exit 36, route 322 is dealing with this accident scene. the accident is over into the right-hand lane and shoulder. it's causing a slowdown by the scene. when i come back, i'll have updates on the area bridges and mass transit. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 19 minutes after 5:00. about a half hour away, almost exactly from sunrise this morning. the skies have cleared out. it will be a beautiful day today. that's a live view from center city philadelphia, in the 70s right now, we'll be warming into the 80s this afternoon. just like yesterday, the humidity will stay lower.ç look at the 60s for the lehigh valley, suburbs and in delaware. south jersey, rain cooled, vineland 70 degrees. parkside at 69 degrees and 67 in
northeast philadelphia at the airport. really pleasant start. the humidity stays low today but the temperatures are going to soar later in the week. we're looking at temperatures that will feel like 100 degrees or more. and it really gets going on friday. that's when the humidity will be higher. the temperature, too, upper 90s for saturday and sunday. it will feel like more than 100 degrees coming our way this weekend. we have a nice day to get through today with just a slight chance of scattered showers. we've been watching showers moving through south jersey this morning. corbin city is getting those rain drops right now. most of it will be missing atlantic city and cape may. there's an isolated shower chance during the day. most of the day we'll see sunshine, comfortable. the heat starts to return tomorrow after another really nice morning. 68 degrees with low humidity to start with. up to 92 degrees tomorrow afternoon. for friday, it's heat and more humidity. 70s to start with, 96 in the
