. good morning and welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gayle guyardo. >> and i'm gene ramirez. our top stories this friday morning. today is the first in a series of job fairs to find substitute teachers in polk county. there will be seven total in the month of february. 8 on your side is checking with the school district to find out how many positions are open and how this could impact our kids. >> a major data breach at a nearby university. now, current and former students are left in limbo.
security numbers from the university of central florida. the school is planning to send out letters to alert victims and will offer a year of free credit monitoring. >> we're waking up to cooler weather. temperatures in the 40s and 50s but the wind, yup it is making it feel cooler than. that let's go to meteorologist leigh spann with a look at the cool down, leigh. >> what a difference! we had the rain come through yesterday afternoon and the cold air was right on the heels. it is still rushing to the south. the further north you live is where it is coolest. 45 in inverness. lakeland, you've dropped to 48 degrees in polk county. 50 in tampa. that is cooler than last hour and you can see the further south you go, you're in the mid-50's. that is cooler than yesterday, just you're in one of the warmer spots this morning. crystal river is 27 degrees colder than what we were around 5:00 yesterday. 20 degrees colder in lakeland and boy it is the wind.

he has recruiting catalogs to prove the promises. he joins thousands of former students nationwide claiming fraud at for profit colleges but some current students aren't so sure. >> the school can only do so much. you as a student need to pretty much need to do the rest. >> when you sign up to pay for, that i think you're obligated to pay it back. >> the art institute parent company has agreed with the government on more transparent recruiting and disclosure standards but tells me this is not an admission of wrong doing. the u.s. department of education continues investigating claims more than 1,000 of the claims were already paid out just five of those were related to florida schools but the difficult thing here is proving it so you have all of these claims. if you don't have the proof. you're on the hook for what you owe. >> $80,000 is a big nugget to cover. another 8 on your side consumer alert this morning, customers of a bay area gas station need to be monitoring their bank accounts.

. we have less than a week before the new hampshire primaries. >> our own candace mccowan is in the granite state following the candidates and this morning she looks at the messages the democratic candidates are hoping vote years are talking about this morning after their debate. >>reporter: gene, gayle, good morning. there is a lot happening here in new hampshire by the moment. the latest news is a new poll out by cnn showing bernie sanders has a 2-1 advantage over hillary clinton. the poll showing that sanders has 61% support here in new hampshire. clinton, with just 30%. and now they're at each other's throats. >> i don't think it was particularly progressive to vote against the brady bill five times. i don't think it was progressive to vote to give gun makers and sellers immunity. i don't think it was progressive to vote against ted kennedy's immigration reform. we can go back and forth like this. the fact is, most people

how are they faring online this morning? >> social media is like the court of public opinion and twitter tracks how each candidate is doing so let's take a look at the data. now, there are three most tweeted topics and those are foreign affairs and national security, healthcare and the economy according to twitter and more people are talking about hillary clinton. she got 56% share of the conversation and sanders only got 44% right here but senator sanders won social in a whole other way. he dominated the top three moments by criticizing clinton over wall street. >> the business model of wall street is fraud. it is fraud. i believe that corruption is rampant. >> the candidates also got on social media to spread their messages further. clinton, here is her tweet. let's look at this here.

because it is cold and windy this morning. here is a look at forecast. 5:18. the cold air has arrived behind a cold front that brought us the rain yesterday. it is gusty out there this morning. temperatures are falling as we speak. we expect it to be around 47 degrees at 8:00 a.m.. i don't expect us to warm very much. 54 degrees. sunny skies at noon and 61 at 3:00 p.m.. still breezy and still sunny, just well below average. i talked about the temperatures falling. what is happening is cold air is oozing down the peninsula of florida. 43 crystal river. 46 in brooksville and zephyrhills. polk county, you've dropped into the 40s. once you're further to the south. we're in the mid-50's. tampa and fish hawk, about 50 degrees. also with the wind, be careful near the water. it will be sunny and not look appealing but with north winds, rough conditions on the water.
rip current risk it is behind this cold front. clearing skies taking place right now, north winds keeping us chilly and breezy all day. notice what happens tomorrow morning. a few extra clouds out. it will still be cool tomorrow. an area of low pressure develops. i'll put a 30% rain chance in there for saturday. not raining all day but what i do expect is a cold week next week. how about traffic on the 8's? >> all right. i guess you have to get out the scarfs. it is windy on the sky way bridge. we have good travel times for you on i-4 if you live in lakeland and you work. you have a good drive. u.s. 98 to i-75 roughly 22 minutes on your commute. i-75 coming away from wesley chapel. roughly a 10 minute drive time as well. we have a little bit of debris on the roadway. heads up here. the 301 on ramp to the eastbound side of the expressway. debris on the roadway. use caution. that is a look at weather and traffic on the 8's. back to gene and gayle.
