things are slow going this morning on interstate 81 in pulaski county. a tractor trailer accident near mile marker 92 has the northbound left and right

live look at 81 in pulaski county. you can see snow covered roads. traffic is backed up near mile 92 for about a mile. traffic is being diverted off at exit 92 while crews work to clean up that accident. new this morning:virginia state police say they aren't dealing with any major incidents this morning in our area. troopers responded to 16 crashes between midnight and 2 a.m in division 6they are still working on 3 of those crashes. 13 are cleared. vsp's division six covers 14 counties across southwest virginia. a water main break has part of hershberger road shut down right now, between williamson road and woodbury street. customers in the hershberger road area between hazleridge road and williamson road will experience water service disruption. service is expected to be restored this morning and the road reopened as well. we'll let you know when that

snow plow operators and contractors with the virginia department of transportation have been working all night to

primary roads. this is a live look along interstate 81 in botetourt county. crews will not plow or low-volume secondary roads or neighborhood streets until the snow stops and the interstates and main roads are plowed and treated. drivers are encouraged to avoid travel if at all possible until the winter weather stops and snow plow operators can make more progress on roads. we also want to see your snow photos. you've got several ways to get them to us, safely of course! feel free to send them through facebook or twitter. you can also e-mail them to us at: pics-at-virginia-first-dot-com. virginia state police now say speed led to a crash that killed 3 people, including a baby, in campbell county.the crash happened just before 10

state police say david johnson lost control, hit a mailbox and then an embankment. troopers say johnson and micalynn white did not wear seatbelts and died at the scene. johnson's infant son also died in the crash. in henry county: a deputy is recovering after crashing his cruiser. it happened early sunday morning on greensboro road at the intersection of tensbury dribe. the sheriff's office says deputy z-b smith was responding to a call about a person threatening to jump off the river hill bridge. investigators say smith's cruiser ran off the road, went into the kentucky fried chicken parking lot. and flipped. smith was airlifted to roanoke memorial hospital. police say the person threatening to jump off that bridge was taken for a mental evaluation. more people are joining a fight to save a historic site. we told you last week about the planned move of slave quarters near the former greenfield plantation in botetourt county.but now some people don't want that move to happen. w-f-x-r's bill wadell spoke with protestors who say the battle to save the site

them through facebook or twitter. you can also e-mail them to us at: pics- at-virginia-first-dot-com. now to stories making national headlines this morning. a house committee will hold a second hearing on the flint water crisis. they'll hear testimony from michigan governor rick snyder and an e-p-a adminstrator. the hearing, which is expected to happen sometime in march comes after snyder offered to travel to d-c to testify before the house oversight and government reform committee. that hearing happened earlier this morning and featured government officials, flint residents and a virginia tech researcher who had been studying the ongoing water crisis. a somber honor this morning for supreme court justice antonin scalia. president obama has ordered all flags at the white house, government buildings and military posts to fly at half staff until his funeral. scalia died in his sleep while on a hunting trip in texas. antonin scalia was 79 years old. new this morning:a north

she thought was a good-natured dog.but as matt gregory tells us...the woman's family says the pit bull turned on her, attacked her, and killed her. thursday in snug harbor, north carolina, debbie brown took the same trip down the street to her daughter suzanne story's home. "we were together about everyday if we weren't together we was talking on the phone."brown says her daughter loved animals.two weeks ago she added a fifth dog to the house -- buddy, a pit bull.her mother fighting through the grief says she never saw the dog. "they told me that the guy that, there was an ad in the virginian pilot for a dog that said easy going good with kids."the dog proved anything but easy-going.wednesday afternoon, story went to clean the dog's cage and buddy turned violent.the perquiman's county sheriff eric tilley sent his deputies out. "she had lacerations about the neck the face area it took approximately five to seven minutes to control the dog."by the time medics could get to the home, time had nearly run out. "she didn't die till they left here with her. they were gonna put her on the helicopter, and when they got there to put her on the helicopter she had already died."brown says today the rest of the family has pulled together.they'll try to salvage what they can for story's two daughters, but they don't know where to turn next. president says the zika virus outbreak will not compromise the upcoming olympics in rio. he says the country experienced considerable success fighting mosquitos that carry the virus.experts say the virus is sweeping through parts of latin america. zika is mostly harmless for adults, but can be linked to a serious birth defect.the olympics in rio de janeiro start in august. hawaii governor david ige has signed an emergency proclamation concerning the zika virus. the proclamation will free up
