before the fire started. campaign coverage from the campaign trail. the new feud between donald trump and ted cruz and how it is impacting the race heading into the primary. >>announcer: complete news coverage starts right now. this is the fox25. >> sara: and good early morning, everybody. it is thursday, february 4, i am sara underwood. my co-anchor gene lavanchy is live at our primary headquarters in manchester, new hampshire. >> gene: good morning to you, sara. our team coverage is continuing here this morning, but first the big story is weather. we have rain, we have fog causing issues as you leave the house this morning. meteorologist shiri spear in the fox25 stormtracker weather center with a timeline of how long the rain is going to stick around, and something of more significance perhaps for tomorrow. >> shiri: yeah, absolutely more forecast for tomorrow morning. green pops on the map from providence, rhode island working

showers much lighter than what we had yesterday. they are going to be fairly persistent through the morning hours. you can see 7 a.m., boston to worcester to the south and to the east is where we have most of the showers. the best chance of having a steady rain over the cape and islands but look at all of those 50s on the map. really warm start to the day. here at noontime, boston at 53. worcester at 49 degrees. and we have the 50s holding tight across the cape with the last of the rain out of here by 1:00 this afternoon. we brighten up further inland. even more significantly later today, temperatures at 48 to 56. we have the scattered morning rain and fog coming up. i will take you town by town and show where you we have that real problem with the fog this morning, but also keep in mind that tomorrow we are talking up to 6 inches of snow in parts of southeastern massachusetts. we have an hour-by-hour look at that just minutes away. julie grauert with live drive time traffic and a quiet start to your thursday morning julie

out the door even after you hear shiri's forecast. nothing slowing you down. over at the pike a speed limit fried 495 past 128 and over to the pru tunnel. a live look at the pike through brighton, roads look a little bit wet there and volume very light and reasonable. here are your live drive times, 24 minutes on the pike eastbound from 495 to mass avenue. an easy 9 minutes from the expressway from the split to the pike. 18 minutes from 49 to the leverett connector. sara and gene, back to you. all right, julie, flames engulf a home forcing an elderly couple to run for their lives. we have new video this morning from neighbors. and this morning, that couple is injured but okay. fox25's michael henrich is live in norfolk this morning with the video, and what investigators are looking at a possible cause. michael? >> reporter: good morning, sara. they are investigating whether there is actually a connection between the fire and a power out between the fire and a power outage that happened in this

does tell us that that that the man who lives here tried to close his garage just after the power outage had ended and that's where the fire started. now look at the garage. just absolutely destroyed much of the house charred inside as well, and as you mentioned fox25 on scene as this was breaking last night, but new this morning, that fresh glimpse of the flames in this video sent us to by a witness. now the fire started around 8:00 last night. and the neighbor tells us the garage door shorted causing not only that fire but a small explosion that was large enough to knock the plan hop lives here on tucker road out of the garnl garage. that is when the man ran across to the neighbor's house and told the neighbor his wife was the neighbor his wife was stuck inside. somehow she made it out on her own. some smoke. face. her hair was singed in some spots.

very shocked though. yes. they -- they have been living here for 50 years. so it is pretty sad for them. >> reporter: very sad indeed. a lot of memory a lot of memories gone. thankfully they are okay or going to be okay. both the elderly man and woman were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries. the official cause, again, of this fire and whether there is a connection is under investigation. now mike, that neighbor, told us about more of what the man who lives here said about that mini explosion in the garage. now we are trying to turn that part of the interview around, and we will have that for you coming up in one hour's time. the next report coming up at 6:00. live in norfolk, michael henrich live in norfolk, michael henrich, fox25 news. new this morning, flames shoot through the roof of this home in lawrence overnight. fire officials tell us it started on sergeant street during our news at 10. heavy winds knocked a power line

think that is how this started. the tree fell on to the car in the driveway. the house was damaged. but everyone is okay. and downed power lines also wreaking havoc on the north shore. those fires those wires were buzzing and popping as they hit the sidewalk and started a fire in swampscott and started a fire in swampscott. police posted this video and put on their facebook page this morning. they were able to disconnect the power to prevent any further damage and no one was hurt. and there were also power outage and there were also power outages during the night because the storm, but this morning things are getting back to normal. the severe weather caused 9,000 outages and right now national grid is reporting 600 people are still in the dark. eversource is reporting just around 20, and in new hampshire, about 850 homes are still without power this morning. these numbers are already down from 3:30 this morning. we will update the totals throughout the newscast. as shiri said, we are tracking more rain and fog this morning. she will bring us updated

the slides came when cruz promised not to sling mud at his opponent after you trump accused his opponent of fraud. it all started with this tweet, trump saying that ted cruz did not win iowa, he stole it. that is why the polls were so wrong. cruz responding on twitter but saying this at his event last night. >> if he wants to behave that way, that's fine. i am not going to respond in kind. i like and respect donald trump, and i have no intention of insulting him or throwing mud and i think the people of new hampshire deserve more than those insults. >> reporter: now trump attacked cruz after his staffers told iowa voters that his opponent ben carson was about to drop out of the race. cruz originally blamed cnn for that error but reported yesterday that their reporting is accurate all along. ben carson is weighing in on a that error. hour. live from exeter, catherine parrotta.

ginz gene-o all right, catherine ginz gene-o all right, catherine, thank you. you democrats hillary clinton and bernie sanders will square off in a debate. last night they were in a town hall forum in derry help in took questions from the economy, climate change and the fight against isis. they sparred over which candidate is more progressive and highlighted their goals for the president ha shall campaign. what this campaign is about is not just electing a president. it is creating a political revolution. >> the goal has to be prevent the republicans from getting back into the white house and undoing the progress made under president obama. >> gene: both clinton and sanders have agreed to add three more debates in the coming months. the sanders campaign originally refused to participate until there were more debates. and for the first time, clinton appears to be lowering

in the granite state. she made comments of running in her opponent's back yard and new hampshire always favors neighbors. senator sanders is a senator from make vermont. police cal ex-mrerts say that clinton is trying to prepare her forkers for a defeat in the primary but they credit sanders for the job he has made in new hampshire. >> bernie sander has not run a campaign but created a political movement. the last time we saw this is when barack obama became president. gene-o gheenz 2008 then senator obama won the eye caucus and finished a close second to hillary clinton in new hampshire hillary clinton in new hampshire. two more notes from the campaign trail. former pennsylvania senator rick santorum dropping out of the republican race. he is endorsing florida senator marco rubio. santorum won the iowa caucuses in 2012 but received almost no support this year. as we told you as it was

and facing an allegation of misconduct, but parents and happened. fox25's daniel miller joins us with more on what the school is saying about the principal. >> daniel: yeah, good morning. principal steven bagioni worked at arlington catholic high school and now his career and rep operation in limbo. fox25 learned that the principal has been placed on paid administrative leave. the action was taken after a school. parent were told about the principal's removal at an e-mail from the school. the e-mail says there is no reason to believe at this time the case involves allegations of sexual abuse. the school also says further notification will be sent out after an investigation has been completed. parents and students we spoke with had nothing but good things to say about the principal. >> a good guy. he hen us to not get in trouble. thralls for us when we need him.

out shiri and the -- areas. the showers less substantial but from boston southward into southeastern massachusetts, the focus of morning drizzle. take to you the big picture because the big picture is going to involve snow back in the forecast for your friday morning. here is where the rain showers are right now moving out of areas like rhode island into southeastern mass. another batch over western massachusetts tending to fall apart as it lifts over the mountains there. again south of boston, slower travel expected this morning just because of those damp and foggy conditions. hyannis one of the spots that will hang continue to showers the longest. 52 degrees and fog in place. temperatures are in the lower 50s all day. barely budging temperatures, but we have that risk of rain into 1 o'clock this afternoon. into the boston area 54 degrees.

around 7 a.m., the potential of snow from southern new hampshire into central massachusetts. it is going to be more intense the closer to the coast you get and the further near southeastern massachusetts you get. although initial legal during the morning commute, we still have rain across the cape. it changes to snow, a heavy wet snow expected there and at 1:00, we will see things begin to lighten up in the boston area out toward norwood not coming to an end until closer to 4 or 5:00. the potential for 1 to 3 for the outer cape. the 3 to 6 inches for fa lithia-pinecrest lmouth to plymouth to fall river. boston going to 1 to 3 now if that track changes any closer to boston, full, we will have to pull those higher amounts even closer to you. a forecast to kind of follow really closely here because there has been quite a few changes in the last 24 hours. still going with 40s and brighter weather over the weekend. back to you, guys.

complete new england news coverage continues right now, this is the fox25 morning news. >> sara: the weather is a big story for news morning. rain and fog lingering in many cities and towns, and this is going to stick with us for several more hours. and near new hampshire, no rain for now, but candidates, they have to dodge a few snowflakes for tomorrow. shiri spear is live in the weather senter with the impact we have for today and what we can expect tomorrow in terms of that snow. >> shiri: as well a much slower friday morning commute because this morning the rain will be snow. and check out the situation chatham to nantucket. half-mile visibility. looking okay in plymouth and boston and in the worcester area boston and in the worcester area, keene struggling a little bit as well. where we have the showers from. the vineyard over to spots like new bedford, taunton, fall river

in the front yard. the home is blocked off with police tape, and they certainly have a lot of cleaning up to do this morning 37 this morning this morning. this all happening at kimbell road in amesbury last night when the storm moved here. the homeopener tells us the tree snapped off and landed in two separate bedrooms where his four children sleep. they are okay but it was a very close call. he ran into the bedroom moments after it happened to find the massive limb just feet from his massive limb just feet from his son. >> my middle son. he didn't go into his bed. sat in his chair to watch tv. if he had been in his bed the tree would have landed on top of him. >> reporter: fortunately no one was hurt but the cleanup will take time. the family once a able to stay here and they are not sure when they will be able to. this is, of course, not the only this storm. we are getting pictures and video from people all over the merrimack valley in the north shore as well.

now and will have a look at some of the damage and the cleanup coming up in the next hour. live in amesbury, i am jessica reyes, fox25 morning news. an elderly couple is recovering this morning after escaping a fire in their home. neighbors were frantic as they saw the house go up in flames. >> he is in there. >> no, he is out. >> the couple was able to make it out okay and the investigation ongoing. our crew on scene as this was first breaking on tucker road in norfolk. a neighbor tell us an explosion occurred when the man turned on his garage door opener. the couple are in their 70s. both are single -- both had singed hair. have been burned. the fire chief said heavy wind and rain had knocked out power in the area and the power just came on when the homeowner turned on his barrage door opener. we are gathering information about the cause of the fire all morning. a 3-year-old is safe this

building. a fox25 viewer caught fire fighters on the scene on eleanor street in chelsea as smoke and flames poured out of the building. neighbors could see the toddler trapped on the top floor and fire fighters rushed to the rescue. here is a picture of the boy coming out of the building. two fire fighters were hurt trying to put out the flames, but they are going to be okay. and a disturbing investigation is hatching investigation is happening right now rhode island. two women were found dead inside their home. one of the women's sons found them in a house on sunk hill road in exeter yesterday. investigators telling us that 8 investigators telling us that 85-year-old wilma reynolds and 64-year-old carol lyt ek were both found in their bedrooms. the rooms are in different floors of the house. police say no carbon monoxide in the home and officers found a dog that was per effectually fine. 9 death is not considered suspicious this morning. >> the presidential cand marching full force toward the new hampshire primary, and it
