they finally g ready to head home more than 12 hours later. complete new england news coverage starts right now. this is the fox25 morning news. >> julie: good morning, everyone, 9:00 on tuesday, february 16th, i'm julie grauert. >> daniel: good morning, i'm daniel miller. brief break in the weather but it won't last long. meteorologist shiri spear stormtracker weather and look when the fog will return. >> shiri: fog and rain coming back and dealing with winner weather advisory just extended until 11:00 a.m. in northern mass because of the lingering icy conditions we got out there as well where i got the cold and potential for icy got the fog this morning, so only 32 right now in lawrence, 34 in burlington, 33 in framingham, 31 in hampstead, new hampshire versus upper 40s boston over to dedham right now, so got a pretty stark contrast in

and barre at 48, even jaffrey at 48 to 29 in rep rail and 29 in lowell, so you could see the cold air getting trapped there in the merrimac valley, so it is a little slower to scour out of those locations. right now outer cape getting a little bit of sprinkle but into the 50s there and you can name of the game here late-morning and midday, so it is not going to be substantial rain until we get back to the evening commute, 5:00 p.m. there's the next round of heavy rain and this is, in fact, when we pick up most of our rainfall today during the evening commute so bad timing here as far as fog, the wind, rain for the second half of the day despite the temperature getting into the 40s. i will time out changes coming up in couple minutes but now since we have had icy concerns turn over to julie grauert with live drive time traffic. >> julie: ice has been a problem and accident to tell but on 24 in, before exit 14 in raynham, left lane closed right now.

starting to look a little better through needham and wellesley as you approach the pike. still slow on the expressway from the braintree split up to morrissey boulevard. 93 south also problematic, we have a new accident. this is in the northbound lane as approach the cloverleaf. pike through briant paula, visibility has improved, volume remains steady and heavy. over to live drive times, 42 minutes on the pike from 495 to mass ave, 32 minutes on the expressway from the braintree split to the pike, 44 minutes on 93 south from 495 to the leverett connector. >> daniel: 9:02 right now. updating breaking news in east boston. three men are recovering after their 50-foot tugboat sunk in the harbor. distress call went out before sunrise and we are told all the boaters were rescued within five minutes. this is a picture of that raft used to bring them to shore. this morning we talked with the captain who responded to the sinking vessel. he says two of the men were in the water when they arrived and another man was clinging to a life raft. all the men are in good

shiri tells us the water this morning. we are gathering details at the scene and update you here and our social media accounts all day. >> gene: when we went on air big concern were ice and fog and things have warmed up and cleared up but drivers still being told to use caution. fox25 jessica reyes continues our team coverage from hopkinton where she has been covering some crashes all morning. jess? >> jessica: hi, julie, good morning to you. early this morning when we first went on tv around 4:30, the ground you might remember was frozen solid, but at this point started turning into a slushy wet mess as temperatures continue to rise out here this morning, but ice has been a problem all morning long. take look at video we shot about an hour and a half ago. this is guy's car in the price chopper parking lot in hopkinton early this morning. he had been at work only six hours this morning when he came outside and found his car

now, at this point a lot of the roads are mostly wet, but when we talked to them a couple hours ago he said a lot of the side roads were a bit of problem here morning. we have been out here on west main street taking look out here live for the past five hours or so, and you could see traffic is moving pretty smoothly along at this point gen roads just wet, but we are expecting different type of mess to the afternoon commute as shiri has been saying a lot of rain, wind and fog expected for that, so, of course, going to be monitoring that all day and have an update for you on the fox25 news at five and six. for now live here in hopkinton, i'm jessica reyes, fox25 news. >> daniel: developing this morning a travel nightmare for more than 150 people will hopefully be over soon. flight from the dominican republic to new york city was diverted to manchester last night and this morning we have learned they will be on an 11:00 a.m. flight back to new york. passengers sent us these pictures here you're looking at

land before 7:00 and after circling jfk for hours the plane was running low on fuel so it was cents to new hampshire. after landing passengers there had to wait more than two hours for customs agents to arrive at the airport. the passengers eventually spent the night at local hotels. well have a live report in about 30 minutes. >> julie: busted pipe at apartment complex has forced them from bellingham home almost 182er to the day after another leak forced similar problem. fox25 catherine parrotta at the apartment complex with ongoing issue. >> catherine: this morning i visited the website for the apartment mr. -- complex and over $2,000 a month for two bedroom. today dozens of residents are out of their units and they say it is not the first time they have been through this.

twice within a year, that's a little concerning. >> catherine: john lives here at jefferson and bellingham apartment complex but today he is forced to stay somewhere else. >> i walked up to apartment and there's water everywhere. >> catherine: frozen pipe that burst on the third for sending 50 units out of their apartments happened almost a year to the day. >> hoping they would rectify the issue but here we are today. >> in kitchen it was all water. >> residents told us they were displaced six weeks while the apartments were fixed and told us management paid for few nights in a hotel telling residents they could simply break their lease. residents say they don't know how long they might be out of homes this time around, but as frustrations are mounting. >> hoping they help us outs this time around perhaps a little more than they did last time.

manhole off the expressway. caitlin clavette was on way to work as art teacher at school in milton. after the crash crews inspected every manhole along the expressway and state police tells fox25 they are still investigating how the manhole cover got loose. >> daniel: police are chasing new leads this morning in the seven for young man from harvard, massachusetts who disappeared in boston. we have been following the search for 22-year-old zachary marr for several days. he was celebrating birthda iny in boston when he went missing early saturday morning. his friends say he stepped out for cigarette in front of bell in hand tavern at faneuil hall. all day yesterday his loved ones canvassed boston with a flier. >> our whole family is so sad right now, don't even know how to accept what's going on. >> daniel: boston police released surveillance images of zach around the time of his disappearance.

they have shared their video with zach's family. >> julie: democrats campaigning in nevada which holds caucus on saturday. the same day republicans in south carolina will go to the polls. yesterday former president george w. bush joined his brother jeb on campaign trail in charleston. >> he will rise above the petty name calling and once elected he will not need poll or focus group to tell him how to think or what to do. >> julie: donald trump threatening to sue ted cruz. he claim he is not eligible because he was born in canada. he will file the suit unless cruz stops attack ads which trump says are lies. >> daniel: after the death of justice antonin scalia right now most of the republican candidates want the senate to block any nominee submitted by

saved thanks to postal >> shiri: drizzle into the connecticut river valley and merrimac valley with icy spots and above freezing and next round of heavy rain comes to town next. >> daniel: today is historic day in cuba and travel between the two countries and live in washington d.c. this morning to tell us how soon you could book a flight. good morning, jackie. >> reporter: good morning. u.s. secretary in cuba today, there to sign a deal to allow commercial planes to travel between the u.s. and cuba for the first time in decades. first commercial flight could actually take place as early as fall. starting today u.s. air lines

applications for u.s. and as many as 100 flights a day to cuba including 20 daily round trip flights to cuba. right now and restrictions on tourism and declare a reason whether it be visiting family and distributing information to cubans and congress could overturn that tourism band but that's not likely to happen before the election. if and when that does happen, demand for routes to cuba likely to skyrocket. jacqueline fells, fox25 news. >> julie: one of the nations' largest civil rights groups threatening water crisis in flint, michigan isn't delta with naacp will issue call to arm if state leaders don't take action the next 30 days. last year a public emergency was declared after high levels of

hospital. >> julie: let's take another look at traffic maps where we have accident waiting to clear. it is on 93 northbound near montvail avenue. one lane is blocked. southbound still sluggish as you head through medford and into somerville. expressway slow from braintree split up to right around morrissey boulevard. 128 looking better as you approach the pike. here is live look at the expressway and you can still see condensation on lens of camera. roads are still a little bit wet but not nearly as problematic as what we were seeing earlier today. live drive times 41 minutes on the pike from 495 to mass ave, 28 minutes on the expressway from the braintree split to the pike, 31 minutes on 128 southbound from route 1 in peabody to the weston tolls. meteorologist shiri spear joining us now. shiri, getting a little bit of break as things warm up but evening commute will be a challenge again. >> shiri: evening commute could be as bad as morning for different reason. keep in mind right now still dealing with icy spots inland

will start to see the wind increase, potential gusts 50 to 60 miles per hour along the coastline, could do some damage. plus we have heavy rain and fog again from four to 9:00 p.m. so this morning it was the ice in the fog that has the concern, heavy rain wind and fog concern for the evening commute and really focused across those two. best time getting out will be right in the middle of the day, 47 right now in boston, what a warm temperature. straight-up balmy right now. we got wind already on the increase though, 18 miles per hour and only getting stronger and 47 at 11:00 a.m., highs low and mid-50s and steadier rain pushing in during the afternoon and lots of clouds around, reduced visibility, that's where we have some fog, that's where we have icy concerns straight

weather advisory was extended until and then we will see a sharp jump in temperatures here early this afternoon, carrying everybody into the 50s just a little slower to happen across the mass new hampshire border. so 10:00 this morning, temperatures are going to struggle a little bit in fitchburg and worcester, nashua, keene, portsmouth, new hampshire, wouldn't be surprised to see couple spots still close to freezing and worcester, boston, mid middle 40s, 50s to the south, couple areas of drizzle expected here to the rest of the morning and early afternoon. next batch of heavy reason comes to town starting around 4:00 p.m. this latest future cast newly updated brought it in a little bit sooner, but by 5:00 p.m. we are going to have some issues on the roadway because of the heavy rain, because of the fog, because we got the strongest of the wind that come through with heaviest of the rain, so everything just basically lining up here first slow going evening drive home and it is coming to an end and temperature will drop

where we will have to watch for some and black ice and rain totals will be about an inch at all depends where we get the heavier downpours setting up and high temperatures and 50s and no doubt it is going to be mild and got the rain, got the mild on and another then to toss in evening commute, tonight we are back to or even blow 30 inland during the overnight hours and that's where you got to watch out for the ice on road tomorrow morning and temperatures back in the middle 40s and another above average day here for wednesday under partly cloudy skies and upper 40s and upper 40s with sunshine on sunday

distress call and pulled all three men from the 40 degree water. we spoke with the captain of the boat that performed the rescue and working to bring you his story as soon as it comes in. >> daniel: matter of three days we have had incredible temperature swings. >> shiri: from wind chill of 30 blow in boston to right now on the verge of 50 , you mean? 56 degree temperature change in 24 hours. that's new england. that's new england. but the problem is spots where we got the fog, guys, out toward bedford, lawrence, nashua, portsmouth, new hampshire, where you can see near-zero visibility that's where we have cold air really hanging on strong. it has been very slow to warm up in those spots as expected usually the valued locations are toughest to get the warm air in and rather it is toughest to get the cold air out.

in hollis, 29 boston over to manchester, 32 in westford, so we got freezing temperatures there, but look at how close by, 43 in marlboro, 50 in hopkinton, 50 many milton, 51 in natick and 47 in boston, 49 in lynn, so we got really stark contrast between the temperatures across northern massachusetts and even the worcester and boston areas. current conditions, hello 50 over southeastern massachusetts and comes with a little bit of drizzle moving toward the cape and islands right now so a little stint here of dry weather is going to be winding down. so 44 right now in boston, but we still got 20s and 30s off to the north. 50 at noon time, 52 at 3:00 p.m. as the winds start to increase we are going to pull back the downpours and the wind here for the evening commute. i got a high wind warning that's going into effect along the coastline starting at 1:00 today, but coming up i'm going to break down specifically what time i'm expecting some damaging winds to come through that's in

julie, let's get back over to you for live drive time traffic this morning. >> julie: volume starting to lighten up, slow spot on 93 somerville. pike looking all right, we have an accident eastbound on the pike, it is after route 9 and route 30 it is in the natickiair and that's why we are seeing the delays that stretch into framingham right now over to live look through brighton. 9:32, things have really started to break up on pike eastbound where it was bumper-to-bumper last time we checked in. over to live drive times, i will have look at those coming up in a few minutes. >> daniel: updating breaking news, three men recovering after 50-foot tugboat sank in the harbor. distress call went after sunrise and all the boats rescued within five minutes. this is video from sky fox five minutes ago. sky fox over the raft that helped rescue the men. this morning we talked with the captain that responded to the

reporting over the last hour or two, problems where some passengers haven't been on the actual list, flight list, passenger list, just heard an announcement literally moments before while you're still doing traffic the problem is because of the way they were deplane yesterday, last night, they weren't officially deplane in the system, so that's why the computer system couldn't print out new boarding passes for today's flout because officially according to the computer they were still on the plane. some of them waking up in new hampshire this morning probably feel like they were still on the plane given the nightmare they had. hey, we will continue to tell you exactly what they went through. delta spokesperson in e-mail to me, sorry for the inconvenience and customer care team reaching out to customers regarding their experience, end quote. see on passenger's pictures what delta is apologizing for. flight for the dominican republic to new york jfk circled for awhile before getting diverted here. then they got stuck on plane

the drive from portland, maine and airline put everyone in hotel checking in around midnight. this morning again several passengers reported having problems getting on this flight today. >> said my name wasn't on list to fly, wasn't on list tall, so i have been on hold for about an hour and front desk trying to help and that was no good. >> michael: now you're on it. >> now i'm on it thankfully heading home. >> michael: doesn't want to deal with it and 11:00 might not go until noon and reached out with couple follow-up questions for the delta spokesperson and very responsive as soon as i hear back from her i will tweet out the update and get up to you on the fox25 news app. live inman, new hampshire, fox25 news. >> daniel: all morning long warning you about conditions on

things have improved since 4:00 this morning but afternoon brings another round of trouble. jessica reyes is monitoring the roads from hopkinton. good morning, jess. >> jessica: hi, daniel, good morning to you. the temperature is significantly and improved significantly as well. we have been showing you this street here west main street in hopkinton all morning long and you can see it is a smooth sailing at this point. much different scene than what we were seeing about five hours ago when we first went on the air at 4:30 this morning. it has been icy and snowy and has been up until 7:00 this morning. this ground right here, it was pretty much solid ice several hours this morning, but you could see melted significantly at this point as temperatures have been rising over the last couple of hours. as shiri has been saying, there's a big difference in temperature between where we are and northern massachusetts and know there's going to be a big difference between the morning and afternoon commute today.

lots and lots of fog, some police departments including methuen police department already warning about that fog and low visibility, so we are going to be monitoring this all day long, we are going to have live reports tonight on the fox25 news at five and 6:00 for what you can expect for your afternoon commute, but for now live here in hopkinton this morning, i'm jessica reyes, fox25 news. >> julie: it is 9:37. local holts has a big mess to clean up this morning. broken water pipe flooded basement of crown plaza which sits over the mass pike in newton. about 4 feet of water pooled in the electrical room forcing hotel to cut power to at least 12 floors. some told outside scene late last night they had to climb down several floors in the dark. >> left for dead on the ninth floor but i don't know i think it was hectic. >> julie: no word when power will be restored to the hotel. we will -- when we call we just get a busy signal this morning. well be tracking rain, ice and

make sure you get alert on fox25 stormtracker weather app and get custom forecast and free to download. just search fox25 weather. >> daniel: 9:37 right now. this morning man charged with drunk driving for sixth time will head to court. scott nearly killed two people in hit-and-run crash on valentine's day in auburn. crash happened along route 20, state trooper was nearby and caught up with him in short time later. the victims were high school sweethearts who were out on date when they were hit. >> i went to go look up because i heard the screeching of the tires and all of a sudden we flew forward. >> daniel: police say he had warrant out for his arrest and did not have valid driver's license and reportedly told police he had driven without a license for years and that he didn't care. >> julie: we have learn man

back in court. michael mccarthy is rachelle bond's boyfriend and rachelle was charged with accessory and unidentified for months. two more patients come forward with local fertility doctor of social abuse. roger hardy has been facing accusations since 2012. globe reports that woman in marlboro is suing the doctor for assaulting her in 2013. a second woman says similar assault happened to her in 2012 during ultrasound which she was awake for. both women are also suing fertility centers of new england saying they knew about the history of abuse. hardy gave up the license in 2014. >> daniel: crimes with possible link to city employees

lawsuit against the city and suit claims the blocked investigations involved the alleged sexual assault of six-year-old girl at the malden ymca and theft of city funds. the captain also claims he was removed as head of the city's detective unit when he refused to drop the investigations so far no comment from the city. >> daniel: shrewsbury firefighter accused of inappropriately touching a babysitter is accused of coming home late one night in january and getting in bed with his children's babysitter while she was sleeping. she told police it wasn't the first time. sean bohdiewicz teaches fire education in local schools. >> julie: happening today the fifth medical marijuana dispensary opening. it will be open seven days a week for patients and care givers and company will be opening dispensaries in greenfield and boston.

used in double-murder in boston for which aaron hernandez about to stand trial. fox toyota and east providence says needs the car back to complete a sale of the business. boston judge will hold a hearing on the matter this afternoon. >> daniel: this morning norwood police looking at small family business and morton street and store owner tells fox25 the suspect came at him with knife and fought back with empty milk crate. the man has owned the store 13 years and wasn't about to let someone take his hard earned money. guy was wearing all black and mask and they are hoping someone can help find him. >> julie: 30 years ago tracy went to buy cigarettes but never came home.
