joanne: she's not fooling me. britt: kelly ayotte sides with the special interests. vivian: now, she's even
playing politic games with medicare. vo: kelly ayotte voted to cut medicare and cost seniors up to $1,700 more for prescriptions... while protecting tax breaks for the wall street banks and big oil companies that fund her campaign. fred: kelly ayotte sold us out. britt: with kelly ayotte, it's all politics. vo: senate majority pac is responsible for the content of this advertising. evit takes money away from the, regular public schools from students like mine. massachusetts schools already lose 400 million a year to charters and question two means we'll lose even more. we've got to stop taking from the 96 percent of kids who don't attend a charter school.
education, vote no on question two. >> we're back at 9:12 on your monday morning. what you are looking at are some live pictures from sky 7 hd. over the scene where there's been some construction under way. this is in the government center area in boston. we're just getting word that there was some kind of gas leak
so what this is leading to now closures of some roads and clearly here as you look to the right of your screen that area right near the government hall plaza. that would usually with -- you would see traffic there flowing. it's like a ghost town. because of this gas leak we are learning that court street; somerset and sudbury are closed down. more roads are closed. no word on evacuations in this area. you can see construction worker have been working in this area. a short time ago we received word of this gas leak in the downtown area. on tremont court somerset and sudbury. this whole area is being closed right now. john cocoa in the chopper. can you tell us what you are
i have you guys. i have you. >> right now we're right above where that gas leak is. where boston police are investigating. you can see this work zone right off to the side here. and some people looking into what may be going on over there. you mentioned the fact this, this area normally at 9:00 in the morning would be packed with people obviously that's not the case right now. you can see that there's also a fire engine. that is and also some boston police squads that are in that area. try to figure out what's going on here as we'll do the same thing. we will get more details we'll bring it right to you guys >> if you are still there. do you see any signs of people waiting on the sidewalk or anything like that. maybe your vantage point is different than ours is here. any signs that people in nearby office building may be evacuated because of this? are you not seeing anything like
we're looking at -- we're kind of wide out from that scene right now. and from what we can see it's empty at this point. you can see some of i believe those look like city buses back there that are being kept out of the area. but again you can see the fire trucks and just essentially this area looking a little bit like a ghost town. unlike what it would normally be on monday morning. >> absolutely, john. if you are not familiar with this area. this i studios are located. city hall plaza on the one side. then on the other side where you see the boflt fire -- boston right there. there's a little bit of traffic moving through. we hadn't seen that earlier. i wonder if that sheds light on recent?
bread. it looks like they are doing work and digging there. down here to the left is where starbucks is with the steaming kettle. and you can see traffic is moving along again right there. but this area right here in downto downtown boston close to government center. construction crews have been working gas leak. so we had no reports of evacuations just closing off the streets. this area where normally it would be very busy with traffic on a monday morning at 9:00 a.m. you can see the fire department down there checking things out. hopefully it will get resolved quickly. >> and clearly this is situation where you do that kind of digging. anything you know can happen.
underground pipes. water you see those get ruptured. this again given the nature of gas and just out abundance of caution they are blocking down blocking off i should say this street and making sure that everybody around there is safe. this is another area where a lot of pedestrian traffic as well as vehicular traffic as well. clearly they are being cautious and wanting to investigate and see where the source one might guess given the fact there's construction machinery over there on your left-hand side of the screen that that would be the area that's in question. >> we are seeing on twitter it say evacuations ordered in downtown boston. no confirmation from us on that. i'm seeing on twister. road closures definitely. tray month, court, somerset and sudbury street area.
and the downtown boston area. close to government center. this is kind of right across the street from starbucks there, the steaming kettle starbucks. you can see construction crews have been down there working in this area for quite sometime. and this morning a short time ago we learned of that reported gas leak so they closed down the area, usually would be very busy with traffic. but you can see some pedestrians walking around in the area there in this government center area under construction for quite sometime. a number of years because as you know just there at the bottom left hand corner of your screen you can see the new government center t-stop that's under renovation for a couple of year. they are doing more work on some of the exterior portions of that structure. so clearly this has been a hot spot for a lot of construction. but the area in question that we're talking about looks like
building. once again when we first came on the air with this breaking news we didn't see any traffic at all following here. now we're seeing a little bit rounding out on to tremont street there. they have orange cone marking off that area of tremont street where that fire engine just to make sure no one is going beyond that point. >> we learn that the contractors the construction crews were working in this area on pipe. this was around 8:00 a.m. they closed down this area. you are taking a live look from sky 7 hd where john cocoa joining us now with more on this kind of what you can see from above, john. >> yeah. what we can see up here you can see that construction zone. you can see where those crews were likely working. you can also see just a few people that are in that area likely some emergency
but it's almost what's more important here what you can't see which would normally be all of the people in that area but because they closed down all those streets that area has essentially been cleared out. the address we're looking 10 tremont street. the main area where this is going down. you mentionment court, sudbury street all closed at this point as boston police and fire try to figure out what's going on here. try again weir right above this scene, which is not too far from the # 7news studio. we're looking down on it. you can see boston fire and boston police all along the scene right now. of course this is a day where all eyes have been on the mass pike. with the changeover with the new all electronic system on the mass pike. and looking for potential traffic trouble there.
looking at clearly what will be a birth of traffic nightmare who may be filtering in here on this halloween morning. maybe getting a later start and now finding that some of these areas in this busy government center region they won't necessarily be able to get to on their normal morning route. this is tremont street and that is going to be well. it's definitely quite a nightmare for people there. i'm looking here. it looks if you look to left-hand side of your screen. we were hearing about evacuations under way. looks like people may come out of that building there. you see firefighter helping them out. >> that's next to the ocean air restaurant. i'm not sure what office building that is. we were staying on twitter that
confirmation yet on the exact address or what offices were being evacuated. we know the area around tremont court and sudbury were closed. normally they would be very busy around 9:00 or 9:30 on monday morning. but we did hear from boston fire. the construction crews have been working. not the first time they hit something. but we heard they hit a gas pipe. this was around 8:00 causing that gas leak, of course, taking every precaution to close down the area. evacuate the area that need to be evacuated. there's a few people standing outside that building. that's right across from the starbucks there. the steaming kettle. traffic moving slowly. but some of those streets have no cars on them completely blocked off. they would be very busy normally on a monday morning.
seafood room. just to give you a lay of the land that 40 quartz street there. the glass structure just kind of coming out of our vision now. that's the new government center t-station. and where there's been a lot of work going on. right across the street there that's tremont street. that's the area in question. looks like they got it taped off with yellow caution tape to make sure no one is as you see nothing is actually moving at all on tremont street. >> looks can completely blocked off and closed down. saying the contractor and construction crew have been working in this area accidently hit the gas pipe around 8:00 a.m. causing this gas leak. and then we learned that this area downtown areas shutdown. usually very busy.
your screen. that's in front of the starbucks steaming kettle. this street normally very busy on monday morning completely desolate. no car out there whatsoever. just you know giving you a sense of this area too tremont street that will basically get you closer to the boston commons area if you keep proceeding that way. obviously no one is getting there right blocked off here. you were mentioning that we have court street. somerst. sudbury blocked off now. looks like some fire crews are out there. we saw earlier as you see some people looks like crossing the street. people were coming out of this area near 40 guard street and like they were accompanied by firefighters. certainly no one eemed to be in a panic whatsoever. people were kind of filing out in an orderly fashion. didn't seem to be a letter of
out and there you see two firefighter posted to either side of the entrance right there kind of the left of the bank of american. not too long ago. there was a huge group as you said kind of coming out of that building standing there. now it seems like they have left or they've escorted them some place else. it doesn't look like they are waiting to get back inside of this building. you see those two firefighter standing there a lot of people were being escorted out a big group of them standing outside that building for a short pd this right next to the ocean air restaurant if you know the area right across from starbucks there you see the bank of america. but then it seems like they disbursed now. doesn't look like they are waiting to get back inside of the building. this doesn't struch too far if you continue tremont street
doesn't look like that closure extends. it looks like it does stretch. i don't know if the chopper can hear us. it's great if they could pan along -- can they pan a little bit along tremont. it would be interesting to see how far those closure extend to. >> there you go. there we go. and there's some traffic making its way over there only cage bridge street. that's close to our studio. you can see it. you have the roof of our building right there. and that's where it starts right i think so. we're just getting confirmation those building have been evacuated. we did see some people coming out of the building there. we are now getting confirmation
