the death of a one-year old in her care. good evening. i'm erin kiernan. and i'm dan winters... today's charges are the result of a seven month investigation... the investigation started in june where police were called to this in- home daycare. the daycare owner's 15-year old daughter called police saying the one year old choked in a car seat. the child died at the hospital. police now say the child was strapped in carseat... and left in a closet for more than two hours. during that time the child slipped down in the car seat... and choked on the buckle. police say charges were delayed because of the time it took to process the evidence. captain dave mohlis, waterloo police department once we get that and the reports back, we review those, along with the county attorney office and try to determine a charge and waht time of charge, so that whole process takes time amy hangartner is charged with child endangerment resulting in death. she will make her initial court

police in shenandoah are also investigating the death of an infant.. this time at a state-licensed daycare. officers were called to the daycare yesterday on a report of an unresponsive 3-month old. the little girl died a short time later at the hospital. police are yet to release the cause of death and say the investigation is ongoing. des moines police are searching for a suspect in a pair of pharmacy robberies... the same suspect is accused of robbing fifield pharmacy on university avenue twice. this is from the first robbery on december 17th. the suspect kept his face and head covered... and threatened to shooting the clerk while demanding prescription pain killers... the suspect then returned six a wig. killers and left. if you can identify him please call crimestoppers of central iowa at 515- 223-1400. it's been exactly one month since iowa state freshman emmalee jacobs was hit and killed while crossing an intersection on campus. the case has gone cold.... and police are pleading with the public to come forward... jodi whitworth join us... though

confident in an arrest.. that's right.... with ames being a college town... police are hoping to gain more that students are back to class. police have received some tips ... but they have all lead to dead ends. but they continue to get the word out to students about the case. the department held a pedestrian safety project near the accident cite in emmalee jacobs honor. jacobs was on her way to class when she was hit by a car in the intersection of lincoln way and ash avenue. the difficulty in this case in the past has been getting people to come forward about the case... now the issue is time 050911 - it worries us as we get further and further away from the day of events that we are losing potential witnesses so we are always battling time in these investigations the city of ames is planning on working with iowa state on a "safety study" at the intersection to improve the area. but in the meantime -- if you have any information on the case -- call

a west des moines family escaped their burning home this morning... 21:44-21:57 when the fire crews arrived... get inside and finish doing the job investigators say the fire caused extensive damage to the second floor of the home near brown's woods. the also credit today's warmer weather with helping put the fire out. there are no fire hydrants near the home... forcing crews to haul in water... a process they say is much harder in freezing temperatures. no one was injured and the cause is under investigation. a des moines restaurant's efforts to recover from a fire are being delayed. a dong restaurant caught fire in august. the fire caused extensive damage.. forcing owners to gut the restaurant and rebuild. they had hoped to reopen on saturday... but on twitter say that is now delayed because they are waiting on the city to complete final inspections.

society is making a last-ditch effort to save an historic des moines church... "it's one of the few structures that we still have in downtown des moines that actually reaches back to our ancestors. and we've lost so much already, and they continue to tear down those historic structures that give us that sense of place, that it's just hard to see another one go by." - david barzen - president, des moines historical society the next one scheduled to go is the burns united methodist church on crocker street. the congregation moved to a new building five years ago because it was unable to afford the upkeep of the century old church. hubbell realty has agreed to buy the land once the church is demolished. a number of iowans woke up this morning realizing they were in fact headed back to work. the record breaking powerball jackpot is being split three ways... by winners in tennessee.. florida.. and california... iowa did have a two-million dollar winner... the ticket was sold at this
