as the campaign shifts gears. "it's going to be decided by the grassroots, it's going to be decided by the men and women here in this room, it's going to be decided by the men and women across this country who take so seriously their responsibility of vetting the candidates." tonight--cruz continues to ride his momentum to the palmetto state, as he takes his message to supporters in greenville. our charles molineaux is there with more. rode the wave of tea party candidates elected to congress. duncan touted cruz's conservative principles and defense of the constitution. meanwhile, the third- place finisher in the republican caucuses last night is scoring an endorsement of his own in south carolina. "2016 may be the most important election. i'm putting my confidence and my trust in marco rubio." senator tim scott made his endorsement official this morning after marco rubio's better-than- expected finish in iowa. rubio came in just one point below donald trump. today- senator scott told wis he believes rubio will do well in south carolina on the 20th. "yes, he's conservative. and he's compassionate and he cares about people. you put that combination together, i think south carolina voters will respond very quickly in a positive manner. plus, if you think about it, trey gowdy would make a great vice president." south carolina congressman trey gowdy
he made his endorsement announcement earlier this year. on the democratic side, it was a squeaker last night for former secretary of state hillary clinton. she edged out vermont senator bernie sanders by a handful of votes--barely avoiding a catastrophe for her campaign. now, clinton looks to new hampshire and in particular to south carolina---where she's counting on a much different outcome. jack kuenzie talked with one of clinton's key supporters in the palmetto state. dawndy, it's quite possible that the hillary clinton campaign will limp into south carolina with a one and one record. barely winning iowa---and potentially losing big to senator bernie sanders in new hampshire, where he's been holding a double-digit lead for weeks. many experts believe clinton has a real firewall in south carolina, where she and her husband had ststng support especially among african-american voters before they defected to the first viable african-american presidential candidacy in 2008. barack obama is not the problem
clintons. the president and many of his former supporters appear friendlier to the clinton campaign this time including ex-governor jim hodges---a former obama national co-chair who's helping guide her ssond effort here to become the first woman in the white house. i don't think she's going to take any demographic group or any vote for granted. we're knocking on doors, we are doing outreach in churches and moving around every corner of the state. bill will be here tomorrow. chelsea clinton is coming and dodog rock hill and spartanburg and clemson president clinton will be back later and hillary clinton will be here as well. i don't think there's any particular area. i just think we need to make sure that people get the message and we maximize our turnout. that really is what it's all about. like othehe in the clinton campaign, hodges repeatedly refers to iowa as a win----brushing past the extremely narrow nature of that win. sanders in our interview with him two weeks ago
with black voters in south carolina. there's still the nevada vote before south carolina---but clinton has to make a statement in this state and in the southern states that follow. jack kuenzie wis news ten. tomorrow, former president bill clinton will be in columbia to campaign for his wife. the former president will hold a rally at the john hurst gym at allen university tomorrow night. doors open at 4:30. the event starts at 6. hillary clinton holds a sizeable lead in south carolina over bernie sanders--who is working to chip away at her lead ahead of the vote. and as the presidential race heads to new hampshire, so will wis. will whitson will be live in new hampshire for coverage leading up to the state's primary. a major route to school, work and the grocery store for many drivers in lower richland county is finally usable again. alliepillyards spoke with a man who has been watching the progress from his window.

carolina's upstate campus plans to open a new location in downtown greenville. next monday, the university is expected to unveil plans for the project. usc upstate is based in spartanburg, but has one facility in greenville, which officials say they will keep--in addition to the new location. get ready for downpour of rain to move in. we'll get the full details from ben tanner coming upfter the break.
