he fired, it did not qualify as self defense under state law. that hearing is at two. kershaw county deputies say an undercover operation led to the arrest of a man who has a lengthy criminal history involving drugs. deputies say this is the third time raymond jones, jr. has been arrested on drug-related charges- and this time they found him with 15 pounds of marijuana...along with crack cocaine and a handgun. investigators say they received tips jones had been dealing drugs in the county over the past year. in addition to facing drug charges, jones is also charged with resisting arrest and driving under suspension. inside the state house... today senators are diving into a big debate on roads. senators started meeting two hours early today-- and that debate could last well into the evening hours. the proposal getting the most attention would raise the gas tax by 12 cents a gallon over three years and increase or add a number of other fees. senators are also working to honor the victims of the
the senate judiciary committee has unanimously approved a resolution declaring june 17th as "mother emanuel nine day" the resolution encourages south carolinians to reflect on race relations on the one- year anniversary of the shooting in charleston that killed nine people. it was approved by the house last month. a celebration for a major milestone for a big company in south carolina. hundreds gathered as the 100th 787 dreamliner built at boeing's north charleston facility rolled out for delivery to american airlines. the dreamliner is used for long overseas. the plane has tall ceilings and bigger windows than most planes. storage space for luggage. boeing has also made a big donation to help restore a historic building at allen university in columbia. the company gave the university 100-thousand dollars to help pay for the chappelle auditorium. it's a site of historic speeches by dr. martin luther king, jr. and muhammad ali. boeing made the donation in honor of the late reverend clementa pinckney -- he

one leaders are coming together today to stress the importance of reading readiness in the classroom. it's part of the "together we can read" initiative. our michal higdon has more on the group the program is targeting. today's kickoff is the 8th year that the city and richland one have partnered to show 3rd graders, the importance of reading and literacy for success. the idea behind "together we can read" is to engage students and connect them with community leaders who read to each classroom. i spoke with ida thompson with richland school district one. she says the program specifically targets 3rd graders who are at the pivotal age where adequate reading skills must be obtained before they are moved on to higher grades. it's a reason state legislators passed the "read to succeed" bill a couple of years ago. beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, if a child can't
