>> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." >> good morning. it is a busy wednesday morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm reena ninan. we'll get right to the presidential race in a moment. first breaking news, a massive storm system slamming the south right now. >> more than a dozen tornadoes have been reported overnight, causing at least three deaths. two were at this trailer bark, this is in louisiana about 40 miles south of baton rouge. the latest storm track in a moment. but we begin with abc's linzie janis. >> look, it's going down. >> reporter: funnel clouds trying to touchdown in new orleans. >> take shelter now. extreme threat. >> severe weather spawning this massive waterspout on lake ponchartrain. >> coming off to the side. >> reporter: watch as two more form on the sides. one reported twister ripping through this rv park in convent, louisiana. killing two people and injuring dozens.

>> in downtown prairieville, major damage to businesses. incredibly, dozen of people inside this gold's gym unharmed as a reported tornado rips through. >> i started screaming everybody get down. everybody get down it take cover. >> reporter: the entire side of the building sheered off. the storms started near san antonio with golf ball sized hail. this car getting pummeled. heavy rain bringing accidents. one person injured when this tractor-trailer overturned and three cars slammed into it. these storms are on the move headed east so authorities are asking everyone across the region to remain on alert. linzie janis, abc news, prairieville, louisiana. >> we should point out that storm warnings are going up right now as the system moves east. and taking a look at the radar, tornado watches in effect in georgia and florida overnight. dangerous conditions from the deep south up the east coast. our coverage continues with accuweather's paul williams. good morning.

caused havoc throughout the deep south, that same system is now going to shift towards the east down to tampa with damaging winds. 35 to 55 or 60-mile-per-hour winds at the very least. chances of tornadoes as well as damaging hail and you have to keep in mind why. this front's going to cut underneath all this warm air and cause those storms to fire off. kendis, reena. >> turning to politics, another sweeping victory for donald trump. >> trump won the nevada caucuses by what looks like his widest margin yet. he made his victory speech flanked by his two oldest sons telling the crowd he attracted voters across a broad spectrum winning among evangelicals and hispanics. >> marco rubio taking second place. picking up a new wave of support from the gop establishment. ted cruz finishing third and ben carson, john kasich trailed in the single digits. now all eyes are on super tuesday. >> as the votes are co

latest right now from the polls in nevada. >> abc's lauren lyster is live in las vegas this morning. lauren, now that trump has won, are we hearing anything from his challengers? >> you know, reena and kendis, we absolutely are. we heard from ted cruz a short time ago. at his watch party, he made the point that all of the ballots have not been counted yet, but he did congratulate donald trump on a good evening. he also made the point that the first four primary states are meant to narrow the field. saying that that's exactly what they've done. he also said that history has shown that no one has won the nomination without winning one of the first three contests saying only two candidates have done that, himself and donald trump. he made the point that after the first four contests he is the only one, has the only campaign that has or can beat donald trump. now, we also heard from ben carson. he said that he believes that something or that things are startingo

when he told that to supporters he was at just 7% of the caucus vote. >> okay. so lauren, we're learning a lot from the entrance polls for the voters that were going into the caucuses in nevada. what are we getting out of those? >> yeah, kendis. entrance poll data showing these gop caucuses were marked by new highs in desire for an outsider candidate. among voters and also by new highs and voter anger. and both of those trends among voters helped vault donald trump to victory. now we also saw the support of evangelicals and hispanics thrown behind donald trump. ted cruz who won among evangelicals in iowa losing out among them here in nevada to donald trump. and then also donald trump having that strong showing with hispanics and marco rubio losing out there. >> who would have thought the two hispanic candidates would lose to donald trump. huh? >> by a big margin.

>> abc's lauren lyster live in las vegas. stay with abc news as the votes come in from nevada. we'll keep you up to date all morning long and have more live reports on "america this morning." so the democrats on the other side of the country making their case in south carolina. hillary clinton and bernie sanders appeared at a town hall last night, both making a pitch for the african-american vote. sanders promised a hike in funding for historically black colleges while clinton talked about racial barriers and police shootings. she also took questions about the e-mail scandal and benghazi. >> i testified for 11 hours on the benghazi committee. you know, people were really, oh my goodness. oh, my goodness. i told the truth. i have turned over 55,000 pages of e-mails. nobody in any cabinet position has ever been as transparent or open. >> i like her and i respect her. this is not some kind of personality fight or stuff like that. we're not republicans after all.

release transcripts of her paid wall street speeches. she says she'll only do it if the candidates, including the republicans, agree to release theirs, as well. new this morning, the late justice antonin scalia suffered several major health problems according to the supreme court doctor. in a just released letter, the doctor says he was overweight. diabetic and had coronary artery disease among other ailments. he was also a smoker. meanwhile, senate republicans have ruled out taking any action on his replacement till the next president nominates someone. >> president obama's plan to close the prison camp at guantanamo bay, cuba, is facing stiff opposition from republicans in congress. among the more controversial aspects of the plan would be the transfer of some detainees to facilities here in the united states. such a move is currently against u.s. law but the white house has not ruled out the president taking executive action to go around congress. the jury says johnson & johnson must pay $72 miio

ovarian cancer. the alabama woman blamed her illness on years of using the company's baby powder and shower to shower product. they face hundreds of lawsuits saying it failed to warn consumers the talc based products could cause cancer. the alabama woman died last fall. federal health officials are investigating more than a dozen reported cases of sexually transmitted zika virus in the united states. all the cases involve men who visited areas with zika outbreaks and may have infected their female sex parns. according to the cdc, that suggests that sexual transmission is more likely than previously thought. but there's encouraging news about the zika virus. two houston hospitals have developed a rapid test for it which can provide results in just a matter of hours. however, initially the test will only be available in those two facilities. texas children's hospital and houston methodist. the hospitals don't want to be overwhelmed with requests for testing.

that is definitely not the best place to get stuck. two workers stranded 62 floors above midtown manhattan. they were replacing glass panels on the building when the weather turned rough. and they decided to call it quits but the scaffold was stuck in place. the guy operating it says that he had it working again before firefighters cut out a window to rescue the workers. >> there was no need for the fire department at all. this was overdone. >> they were fine. they're fine. no panic. they're trained, well trained. they have their all their certifications. it's part of the nature of the beast. >> just an average day at work. firefighters say the two men were stuck outside in the cold, wind and rain for about an hour before they were pulled to safety. th

lucky the scaffold didn't tilt while it was stuck in place. i don't know what would make me cry harder being up that high or the cold wind and rain. >> i think if it came down, you would be crying harder. well, we're going to turn now to the drama unfolding in a courtroom in nashville involving "dancing with the stars" favorite erin andrews. >> she's suing the national marriott hotel for $75 million for booking her stalker into the room next to hers. allowing him to spy on her through a peephole. here's abc's ryan smith. >> reporter: erin andrews who made a name for herself reporting from the sidelines, and now a host on abc's "dancing with the stars," finds herself taking on a tennessee marriott and a stalker, in a $75 million courtroom battle, claiming the hotel made it easy for the stalker to videotape her in the nude. >> this is so humiliating to her, and it continues. >> reporter: her lawyers telling a nashville jury, michael david barrett called the marriott of vanderbilt university with a strange request.
