news 13 at 11:00. >> south carolina, we will never forget you. we will never forget you. we will never, ever forget south carolina. >> frank: donald trump thanking supporters after winning big in south carolina gop presidential primary tonight. here's how the final election results shape up. donald trump 32% of the vote. marco rubio 22%. ted cruz 22%. jeb bush 8% and john kasich 8% of the vote. another republican candidate is dropping out. we have live team coverage of tonight's primary vote. frank is in spartanburg. darren is in columbia. let's begin with frank at the site of the big victory party for donald trump. reporter: right now it's a lot cooler and a lot quieter now that all the trump fans have left.

crews are tearing down the risers and the stage. donald trump going to victory here in the presidential primary in south carolina. one he said many of the pundits thought he could not achieve. folks were excited about him speaking and the victory. trump was quick to pass off nay sayers. he took a swipe at governor haley that he says endorsed the wrong kandz dat. he at the scene he's going to make america great again. hitting themes like getting rid of common core. >> the people in this communities, every time i see them a they want education locally. the parents want to do it. they don't want bureaucratics telling them how to educate their children. reporter: a lot of his supporters were screaming over that. they loved hearing donald trump

folks were not surprised by the victory. a double digit win for donald trump here in south carolina. they were so excited about what happened here tonight. let's hear what they had to say. >> just like what i expected. i'm still torn between cruz and trump. but i knew trump would take south carolina. >> nobody or anyone as a kid doesn't like common core. we want to get rid of common core and donald trump is the best person for it. >> is there one issue that brings you to trump. >> look at what e did with his life. what else do you need. you don't need anything else. reporter: from here it's onto nevada on tuesday and then the big test for donald trump will be super tuesday or what he calls the scc primaries. more than a dozen states are holding primarys on that date. the biggest contest for him will be in texas where ted cruz has been leading the polls. we're live in south carolina, news 13.

looks like rubio will barely place. they both have 22% but rubio has about a thousand more votes. news 13 is live in columbia at rubio headquarters. rubio is looking at this as a showing of a second chance. reporter: even though he's losing to trump by am double digits heaths celebrating the results. they've chanted for him to take the stage and cheer throughout the spreech. rubio at the scene as practically a three person race for the republican nominee. he took the stage with governor haley. a diverse group supporting hip. that's why rubio feels optimistic. >> i know that our campaign gives us the best chance, not just to come together, not just to unify our party but to unify our country and grow this movement.

reporter: rubio congratulated trump and thanked bush for running. haley's endorsement helps rubio rebound but not enough to put him over the top in south carolina. live in columbia, news 13. >> frank: senator cruz is running second to donald trump in most polls in south carolina leading up to today's vote. but he has to settle for a close third place finish. news 13 continues live team coverage from the cruz camp in columbia. darren how is the senator reacting to the close call? reporter: the senator is optimistic about the future of his campaign. he came out just about an hour or so ago to address his supporters in this room at the fairgrounds in columbia. people. but this room was just about silent as donald trump was giving his victory speech earlier tonight. a roller coaster of emotions as

speech and jeb bush announced he was dropping out of the race. the crowd went wild after cruz took the stage touting his conservative record and venting he would take the gop presidential nomination despite trump in new hampshire and south carolina. >> iowa, new hampshire and south carolina have given the voters a clear, defined choice. you can go with washington deal makers or we can stand together with a proven consistent, constitutional conservative and bring back morning in america. live in columbia, news 13. >> frank: jeb bush announced he is suspending his campaign for the republican nomination. bush struggled for months. but it was bush' disappointing finish in south carolina where his former president brother and former first lady mother campaigned for him. a loss here was the final straw. >> the people of iowa, new hampshire and south carolina spoken. i respect their decision. so tonight i am suspending my campaign. >> frank: turning to the democrats in nevada. hillary clinton scores a big win landing 54% of the nevada caucus's vote leaving bernie sanders who ha 42% of the vote with 90% of the precincts total reporting. >> i called up secretary clinton and congratulated here

the u.s. supreme court refuse to stop a lower court order forcing state lawmakers to draw a new congressional map. two weeks ago, a three judge panel ruled the first and 12th districts were unconstitutional because they were drawn primarily based on race. state lawmakers met. the judge's deadline of yesterday to redraw the maps which still have to be approved by the same three judge panel. because of the continuing uncertainty, lawmakers have delayed the congressional primary here in the tar heel state until june 7th. all over primary races in north carolina scheduled for march 15, including the one for president, will go forward as planned. two people are hospitalized tonight after another mountain motorcycle wreck. this cash at the intersection of weaverville and old mar hall highways is a third involving a motorcycle in as many days.

mission hospital where two people are undergoing treatment. reporter: their names are jeremy holfield and katilyn brown. his family says they are a couple. they are on the motorcycle and sustained a number of broken bones. they are expected to be okay. >> there's remnants of the vehicle and the motorcycle just different parts. lenses from the lights, there's a foot peg about 30-foot doubt. >> justin: the intersection of weaverville and old marshall highway, the scene of a friday night collision between a car and motorcycle. where preliminary investigation reveals the driver of the motorcycle was speeding. nothing new police say on this stretch of road. >> they even speed when we're up here. it's nothing for somebody to come through here at 55-60 miles an hour. that's common.

>> justin: the sergeant said the car turning left on the old marshall highway pulled out in front of a motorcycle on weaverville highway. the two on the bike suffering serious injuries, family members tell us. this wreck, the third involving a motorcycle in just three days. one in henderson county, the other in buncombe county. at the intersection of hendersonville and airport road. >> mr. parker was wearing a helmet but he wasn't wearing it properly. >> justin: the crash out here is the only one of the three to involve multimillion vehicles. but it's still a good reminder for drivers to remember, when it warms up the motorcycles come out. >> take your time when you make turns. take your time when you pull out from stop signs, a traffic light or driveway. look. double check. look for a motorcycle. >> justin: he says it's important for motorcyclists to

defensively. tomorrow expected to be a warm day. a good reminder whether you're on a bike or car to look out for one another. live in asheville, justin hinton, news 13. >> frank: many students plan to go to college but just figuring out how they'll be able to afford it takes an education as well. young people work with professionals during the fafsa day at blue ridge community college. the free application for federal student aid form is required to receive loans or grants from the government. that is free but using it can be a complicated process. >> we want all students to have access to higher education. the financial aid form helps do that. from the federal government, the state government, what institutions have available. it helps make up the difference between what families can afford and what the school costs. >> frank: a high percentage of students qualify for financial aid. many family that is didn't plan to fill out the form were

more than two hundred attended the 13th annual business of farping conference at unc asheville. it gives local growers the opportunity to meet with distributors, grocery stores and restaurants trying to further the farming business here. >> it's not only about the networking, meeting some buyers. we have buyers from whole foods and farm burger and lots of other restaurants here. but we're hearing from farmers every day saying i made a great contact. i learned this about my farming business that i never knew before. >> frank: legal consultation was also available giving growers the chance to ask questions about personal farming, businesses and practices. former subway spokesperson jared fogle is back in court. what he's asking the judge as he serves his sentence for child pornography.

what caused >> frank: fbi terrorism experts are investigating the shooting of two new york city police officers. they were wounded early this morning responding to reports of gunfire in brooklyn. identified. they have reason to believe he may have extreme ties. the suspect were shot after other officers at the scene returned fire. gary fogle hopes to get a shorter prison sentence. he appeared in district court yesterday. lawyers say their client never abused small children and the prostitutes he had sex with were near the age of majority. a judge sentenced fogle to 15 years in prison last year after pleading guilty to child exploitation and distributing child porn: prosecutors had requested a 12 and a half years sentence.

that's the situation for roughly 250 people in idaho. a landslide left nearly 15 tons of debris on the highway. residents are trapped and there's no way for people to get to them. no word on when the highway will be reopened. authorities say the trapped people are taking it in stride. i guess they don't have much of a choice. lots of rain probably caused this. here's meteorologist karen wynne. >> karen: we have plenty off rain in the forecast but it's going to take a while before it arrives here. look at the morning planner. maybe the light jacket at 8:00 a.m. 47 and a chance of leaving the umbrella at 10. a better chance you'll need that rain gear at noon. 58 by then.

more on when the heaviest rai now your news 13 sky watch weather. >> karen: after a beautiful, warm day we have a quiet night right now. breaks in the clouds at this hour. we did have a cloudy evening, but now just a few clouds moving in and out of the region. asheville down to 45. mainly clear and calm at this hour. meanwhile in greenville, a mild 52 degrees. clear skies, west winds at 6, just feeling very comfortable compared to what we can feel like in late february. we have changes coming but not

we are going to keep this mild air flowing in here for the rest of the weekend. this is our future cast and we can see at midnight, we have a frontal system well off to north and the west. but as we go through the overnight, it does move closer bringing a wave of rain in here sunday afternoon. by dinner time, that rain is going to be coming down. i'm not thinking it's going to be heavy rain, just steady rain, maybe about half an inch in parts of the mountains through sunday. we go on into sunday evening. we have a few more showers but with the front moving to the south of the region, much of the moisture moves south. 6:00 a.m. that monday morning commute not looking too bad. cloudy and a little bit drizzly. that's about it. but the rain makes it come back late in the day on monday. notice the secondary of low pressure. this is going to keep the gulf moisture moving back in for the middle of the week.

midnight nothing much happening. a few clouds. as we go throuou the overnight hours, we're going to see the clouds thicken up. by 6:00 tomorrow, maybe a few sprinkles. by midday things change. region. it's going to be a little bit breezy but warm in the 60s, even with the clouds and the rain. we can see the showers becoming more widely scattered by 6:00 tomorrow evening. we go on into monday and monday we do get a break from the major moisture before it returns for the middle of the week. now we have a look at preliminary rainfall totals through wednesday. wednesday we could get some heavy rain. two to three inches of rain possible, mainly west of asheville. lows tonight very mild. asheville 42... burnsville 44...

and here is a look at your up after this week, unc asheville has only two games left in the regular season for men east basketball. today a battle between the bulldogs and the eagles. both entered the day tied for first place in the big south conference standings. the fourth quarter and less than a minute to play. the bulldogs down 79-74. they did erase some of that
