good morning folks. looking at a picture perfect day out there. i think today we are not going to see high level clouds. it will be clear conditions but maybe chilly to start. 27 degrees in asheville. holding on to the 30 degrees mark in burnsville and that high pressure. that sunshine will take us up even in the low and mid-60s. some area see the 70 degree mark. fantastic out there. here's the bigger picture. it will hold off for the second half of the weekend but we've been tracking in the low pressure system and sweeping cold front across the nation and on top of that it will increase our chances of precipitation by tomorrow. mostly just for our commute and this cold front isn't going to impact us too much. we will see things dissipating quickly. to put us into the hour by hour

in terms of impact, in terms of activity, but you will see the broadband by 6:00 tomorrow morning. we will go all the way by lunch time now. later on we will increase the wind ever so slightly. 5-10 miles per hour. but i think since it's going to be so warm, that's a welcome breeze overall. overnight, watch what happens as we head to tomorrow morning. there's the band ahead of the cold front and yes, i do think for our commute we could see a few areas of wet roadways, but along the north karolina and tennessee border west of i-26, watch what happens as we go from 9:00 to 10:00, we will dissipate the system, push it off to the east and by the afternoon hours, we clear things out. in terms of accumulation, we are talking less than a .1 of an inch but there is more rain on the way tuesday and wednesday. so i hope you can get outside

a federal research study of extremely premature babies. jay talks with host cheryl atkinson about this week's cover story. >> cheryl, what kind of research are we talking about? >> this is called support a federal study between the federal government and research institutions across the country of a lot of premature infants, extremely critical ill infants and it was to find out with good intentions what the right amount of oxygen of premature baby was. the problem is ththere was a risk of death discovered with this study that the researchers should have known about that in advance and disclosed it to the parents but they were not told. so that's the controversy.

there's a big dispute about this inside the federal government and research community. >> yeah, it seems informed consent is a critical part of this and how could this happen without parents even knowing? >> informed consent is required. the problem is researchers differ on how much and what they really have to tell patients and in this case they said they didn't know in advance or wouldn't have had to tell them about risk of death and other risks such as blindness of the study. the ethics body disagreed. the parents feel as though russian roulette was played with their babies. verbally they were told it was to help their babies. they had no idea. in some they say they enrolled their babyies in an experiment that had risks. >> let's move to politics. super tuesday is ahead. you are following the money on the campaign trail? >> yes, we have scott to dig into the numbers. we will look at the totals of the major candidate's race so

we are not going to get anywhere near the record of 77 degrees but we are going to be in the 60s area wide. and as we make our way further south we start to see temperatures closer to 70 degrees. and we are going to keep things on the warm side for the start of the workweek. >> welcome into the carolina kitchen. 6:21 right now. we have bruce's fabulous foods. we are making a mushroom cremini sauce pasta. >> this is a side dish for the oscars. it's oscar sunday. i love oscar parties and i love taking mushrooms to oscar parties, you know why?

>> because they are fungiis. i crack myself up. >> i like mushrooms. >> regular button mushrooms are okay. cremini are marketed in the grocery stores as baby bellas. like baby portabellas. they hold less water and last longer. look for ones with darker brown skin. not wrinkled. some look like fish gills on them sometimes. and these are great mushrooms. i love these things. so what i've done here to start is i've melted a couple tablespoons of butter. >> definitely smell garlic, too.

garlic and onions. i have some simple egg noodles. start off with basic and simple. we will add a little dried parsley. it will give it a little bit of a look, if you know what i mean. so it's not just the mushrooms and sauce. >> about 30 seconds left on this one, bruce. >> white pepper and two cups of heavy cream. i will pour the heavy cream in, let it come up to a light simmer and then i'm going to thicken the sauce with parmesan cheese. >> delicious. >> up to a third of a cup. stir it through and ladle it on top of the pasta and you have a side dish, you are not going to believe how good this stuff is. >> right after the break we will

this is our special oscars 2016 show and we are here with the movie critic from the citizens times to go through some of the big categories in tonight's show. i guess we will start with actor in a supporting role. some really fantastic actors up here. who really impressed you this year? >> out of these nominees i like mark russelo. -- mark rough low. but i think stallone will win this category. >> that is a crowd favorite? >> yes, this is the 7th rocky. career achievement award. and it's been a long time -- almost 40 years since the original one. he's still standing as a testament of his career and i think the academy will want to award that. >> tom hardy i thought was fantastic. >> as did i. >> i like kate winslet and steve jobs.

>> good saturday morning, folks. well, saturday was yesterday. good sunday morning. it's been a long week. we are looking at sunshine throughout the course of the day today. clear conditions, blue sky. going to be absolutely fantastic. yesterday wasn't too bad but today is going to be the pick of the weegd. to our spring like temperatures. and the early morning hours it's going to be a little chilly but the high pressure will bring back the sunshine and bring back the warmth. we want to show you what will be coming in the workweek. we have a sweeping cold front that will increase our chances fofo precipitation and it's starting as early as tomorrow morning. so enjoy some of the clear conditions today because we are going to see the impact as early as the next 24-hours.

forecast and show you when, lasting. conditions. that's going to be the trend all calm winds. i do think we can pick itit up. maybe even gusting at times for those in the upstate with winds getting above 15 miles per hour and have gusts maybe closer to 25 miles per hour. but overall you are not seeing any cloud cover. so sunshine is going to dominate. but overnight, bring us into tomorrow morning. watch what happens. you start to see the cloud cover rolling through from the northwest. this is ahead of the cold front but this is will he a short stint leaving little impact. wet roads could be seen from the commute. east of the tennessee border and watch what happens 9:00, 10:00 in the morning. it will start to break up and dissipate and we will clear out the cloud cover tomorrow afternoon and continue with the warm. it will not be as warm as what we will see in afternoon, but we will see in the low 60s on monday and then we start to see things sliding as we head

is going to be returning for the upcoming workweek. but here we have one of our favorites. chef bruce brown back in the carolina kitchen. >> good morning. >> what do we have going on here? >> something new for us? >> we are going to do salmon oscar. oscar is a very -- it's term used for a very classic presentation, especially with veal, but you can use it on chicken or ducks. so many things. >> so you can exchange the protein? >> exactly. so today we are doing salmon oscar and what it is usually it is crab meats and asparagus with some kind of sauce over top. i like to make my sauce with the crab meat and asparagus in it. >> any oscar plates will have those two in it and you change the protein on top?

>> i saute up in a couple tablespoons of butter i sauted and caramelized a quarter cup of onions. to this i will add just lemon zest. maybe half a tablespoon of lemon zest. not the juice, just the zest -- >> when you zest it, do you have to do it yourself? or can you buy it in the store? >> i do it myself. if you buy it in the store it will be dry and have no flavor. horseradish. it is one of the components of bearnaise sauce. that's the classic sauce over oscar. so the lemon will give it a little brightness, the horseradish gives it a little kick. i have a cup to cup and-a-half of asparagus tips. i like it to look nice but i cut it a little longer than usual. i get them sauted and if you blanch them first, cut your

boiling water for 20-30 seconds. take them out, drain them and run cold water over them, it will help set the color and chlorophyll in the asparagus tips. >> i didn't realize there was so much science in it. >> t tt's what cooking is. >> when we come back we will plate this and i can't wait to taste it. it looks fantastic.
