7:07 pm
mixed with a few wet snow flakes as we head toward the morning hours. this evening, increasing clouds. temperatures, 38 degrees. 37 at 8:00. over night, a little bit of moisture could move in. but the key is where there could be moisture down herings temperatures at the surface are going to stay above freezing. so this will be more of an excitement event if anything else. but no impact. we do have the chance of a little bit of that snow in places tomorrow. and we'll dissect that forecast, time it out for you and tell you what to expect on super bowl sunday coming up in a few minutes. >> speaking of the super bowl, less than 24 hours from now, the hype of super bowl 50 will give way to a shot at history for the carolina panthers and denver broncos. more than a million fans are in the bay area this weekend and millions around the world will be watching. jay gray is at levy stadium with a closer look. >> it's the day before the day.

turning to politics now, in new hampshire, it's the republican candidate's turn tonight. they debate just three days before the primary where donald trump is looking for his first win. steve handelsman is at the debate site near manchester. after losing iowa, donald trump tries to reassert his national front runner status from center stage tonight. but despite poling first in new hampshire, trump has not campaigned much. in this snowy new england state. he was in south carolina last night. my total focus now is on new hampshire. and then next week, my total focus will be right here in south carolina. evangelical conservative texas senator ted cruz got no boost in new hampshire poles from his iowa caucus win. but florida senator marco rubio's support is surging. he's poling second here and rubio figures he'll be targeted tonight by the governors, christie, kasich, and bush, only one of whom might have a shot after new hampshire. jeb bush was high energy today
7:13 pm
poles are trending down. >> who has the record of not cutting and running but solving problems ? you're looking at him. his name is jeb bush. >> john kasich worked a restaurant in manchester before what could be his most critical debate. kasich's poles are rising fast. he's tied for ird here with cruz. and the debate could be critical for trump. who lost iowa soon after he ducked the iowa debate. winning in this state on tuesday could help erase that and showcase trump as the strong gop front runner. aids say he figures this debate is a gateway to that kind of a win. i'm steve handelsman, nbc news, manchester new hampshire. it's been named one of the 20 best events in the southeast. today people lined the streets of durham for the 4th annual north carolina mlk black history month parade. the parade is a way to give thanks to dr. martin luther king jr. and recognize the achievements of other great

we linked you to job listings on wncn.com. and didn't feel like thinking about life guard season yet. but not a bad day. let's look ahead. >> it'll be here before you know it. we're going to head toward the middle of february coming up in the next week or so. >> it's going by quickly. >> it feels like winter. 38 degrees outside. we enjoyed lots of sunshine today. the skies are mostly clear. what about the rays of sunshine for your sunday? one. there we go. one. the voice was ahead of the number there. but unfortunately we went from agent an eight or a nine today on the other side of the scale. we'll explain why that's going to happen. there's going to be a low pressure system moving off the coast of florida. here's what you need to know about sunday, during the morning hours and the early afternoon hours, there will be a chance of rain. the best chances will be southeast of the triangle. rain is possible. but it may mix or change to a brief period of snow. it may mix or change to a brief
7:16 pm
what i'm thinking is based on the current path of this low, and this is what's interesting. if the low moves 50, 60, 100 miles to the northwest, we drag the rain, and snow over the virginia border if it moves east, it might be dry everywhere west of 95. right now i'm thinking any where from the triangle south and eastward there could be a period of range that could change to snow. you might get excited if you're watching in cumberland county, clinton, goldsboro to see a little snow tomorrow. it'll be just rain along the coast. i don't have anything drawn north and west of the triangle. based on the current projection of that low. it'll probably stay dry there. but here's the key, little or no accumulation. because anything would be confined to grass. the actual surface temperature will stay above freezing. so there's no advisories, no watches, no warnings, nothing like that. but it could be exciting for a look out the window tomorrow.
7:17 pm
i-95 corridor. 44 fayetteville. nothing on the radar now. the low pressure system is moving off the coast of florida. and then it should move to the northeast. so you see the rain band is going as far in as columbia south carolina. so if it continues to progress to the northeast. you can see right over raleigh, that will be kind of like the cut off. we're going to see rain or not. i'm going to give the chance from 3:00 a.m. through early afternoon tomorrow, temperatures will stay cold, especially through the mid afternoon hours and at least get up to 46 tomorrowment but here's what's interesting on your city by city weather, about a 1 in 3 shot you'll sigh rain or a few flakes in raleigh. a slight risk in durham where it'll be warmer, but it's fayetteville where it looks like there's a good chance of rain, with maybe a little bit of snow flakes mixed in there. so midnight, no rain, but cloud up. see the pink trying to represent a mixture of rain and snow as we go through part os of the day tomorrow. as we head toward the afternoon hours the low progresses a little bit of snow to the east. but by dinner time, skies
7:18 pm
clear for school or work on monday morning. monday will be a mild day. 50s. and then this front comes through with some rain. and behind that front, it's going to be cold and stay there for the rest of the week. we might squeeze out a slight chance of a shower or maybe even a flake of snow along the virginia border on tuesday. but for the most part it'll be dryer by tuesday. tomorrow, rain and snow southeast of the triangle. fayetteville you could see some. best chances goldsboro and clinton. the lower 40s there. and upper 40s and mainly dry in south hill virginia at 49 degrees. so for tomorrow, 46 degrees. after a low of 33. we will see that chance of a little bit of rain or snow in the morning. and a few bits at noon. and then by the time you get ready for the game to watch the panthers, things should be drying out. those showers are for monday evening. and that slight risk of maybe a squeezed out shower any time during the day on tuesday. otherwise it'll be blustery. only 42 degrees. breezy clouds and sun. and cold on wednesday.
7:19 pm
cold on thursday and sunday. then on friday, lincoln's birthday, 48. next saturday a little bit of rain or snow. very slight chance now that's very far out in the future. but one thing we know for sure, it's going to be cold. 40 next saturday. >> keep the coats out. >> and gloves and scarves. >> stay with us. still to come tonight, nc state getting another cabs at duke.
7:20 pm
we following soon from other universities and professional sports teams, the duke blue devils are using metal detectors. folks say whatever is necessary to stay safe. >> you know, i think whatever makes people feel the safest and encourages safety i think is a great program. and i think it's not an inconvenience really for anyone. >> duke officials say these metal detectors are part of a pilot program that could expand to other events on campus. in durham, duke and nc
7:21 pm
second time this year. a few weeks ago in raleigh the blue devils pulled away late for an 88-78 win. today as todd gibson shows us, things would go differently in the beginning but was much of the same in the end. >> after a one-game hiatus due to illness, coach k returns with the blessing of his team. >> i asked him is it all right to be here? and they said yeah. i said that's smart of you because i still control playing time. >> krzyzewski giving early playing time to luke kinard. on his way to a 26 point outing. grayson allen would top that. he had a game high 28 points. duke appeared to pull away in the second half, up by 13. then the pack makes a run. behind malik. and cat barber held in check in the first half. cat explodes for 17 of his team
7:22 pm
>> every time we got a lead they would hit a big shot and get back into the game. and i know nc state's a very dangerous team. they have dangerous scorers. and you know, they're really tough. >> but duke was tough as well down the stretch taking the pack's best punch and not flinching. the devils able to stave off the second half. >> we were getting closer and closer to closing out the games and turning them into big three. >> no moral victories for the pack. state falls to 2 and 9 after their loss to the devils. in durham, todd gibson, wncn sports. stay with us. we'll be right back with another look at your forecast. but first a look at what's

well bill's back and another look at a chilly week ahead. >> sunday's not an easy day. it's not going to be sunny or cloudy but a mixed bag for everybody. along the virginia border, it should be dry. the 30% chance for rain and snow flakes in the triangle. but if you're watching, fayetteville, goldsboro, a 60% chance of rain tomorrow. and a shower monday and colder. >> thank you so much your buddy ron once said he could install your ceiling fan. he couldn't. and that one time ron said another chili dog was a good idea. yeah, it wasn't. so when ron said you'd never afford a john deere tractor, you knew better. now ron does too. the e series. legendary john deere quality. unexpected low price. e series compact tractors come with an industry-best, six-year, no-cost powertrain warranty. hey buddy, let's get these dayquil liquid gels and go. but these liquid gels are new. mucinex fast max.
