>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> good morning. it's 4:30 on this wednesday, february 17th. >> we're following a developing story. an allentown police officer is recovering from shooting while serving a warrant for another recent crime. >> some areas out there are still in the dark this morning after yesterday's intense storm. >> we have a sign of spring here today as phillies pitchers and catchers report to clearwater, florida. >> you know, we started the day yesterday with it feeling like january but by the end dave murphy is it april? let's keep this going. you've got accuweather. karen rogers has traffic. good morning. >> the mild air was nice yesterday. unfortunately cooler conditions have returned fore this morning.
right now we've got a lot of cloud cover across the region. through the day we're expecting clouds and a few sunny breaks. precipitation down to the south will keep our eyes on the northern and western suburbs for a spotty rain or snow shower dropping in later in the afternoon. not a big deal. we had big winds on tuesday though. driver's alert this morning. those gusts at 50 miles per hour did put debris on roadways n my neighborhood there's still a lot of twigs and tree branches down. temperature this morning are a bit cooler. 38 degrees in philadelphia. 37 in allentown. closer to the freezing mark in wilmington. 36 in millville. there etch trenton and 36 degrees currently in wildwood. not too much wind out there. rolling down to the bus stop today between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock looks like the mid 30's mostly cloudy and colder than yesterday. as we take a look at temperatures today we're going to stay a bit on the chillier side. 36 by 9 o'clock, 11 o'clock 40, 42 by 1:00 and your high is going to be 44 at 3 o'clock. a little breezy, clouds mixing
with some sun. we have a couple chances of precipitation later in the forecast. i'll have details on that um canning up and starting to look ahead towards the weekend. >> always like to look towards the weekend. it was rough friday and yesterday and at least we're dry right now. looking pretty good currently. this is montgomery township dekalb pike at welsh road. kind of a quiet scene on i-95 approaching cottman. that's southbound traffic headed towards center city. no overnight construction here but both ways at the betsy ross bridge construction causing restriction there is but we expect that to be clear pretty soon. want to take you over here with this downed pole and fire in haddoand wirein haddon towns. black horse pike at nicholson road downed pole from an earlier accident blocking two lanes. expect some slowing. hopefully they'll be a able to clean this up before the morning commute. accident on-ramp from i-9 from 5
southbound to night. to i-95 northbound. >> "action news" reporter erin o'hearn has been watching this developing story now live. >> reporter: good morning, tam. we'll give you the details we know. we know the officer was slot in the arm is that expected to survive. now, police tell us that law enforcement was on the scene following up on another crime and that officers were serving a search warrant. this all happened on the 600 block of godfrey street when the shots were fired. the chief of allentown police say they went to the scene while investigating a homicide from sunday. now the body of an asian woman was stuffed into a recycling bin on nearby tillman street. yesterday the autopsy revealed the woman had been shot to death. we do not know if police were hoping to arrest a suspect when they served that warrant. some residents were evacuated
as a result of the shooting. they were allowed to return home around 1:30 this morning. police did exchange gunfire with the suspect. there was a standoff with that suspect and allentown police chief describes what happened when the officers first arrived. take a listen. >> as officers of our emergency response team were approaching the door they were met by gunfire. one of our officers was struck. that officer is in stable condition. >> reporter: now, allentown police say the suspect was taken to lehigh valley hospital for treatment but they haven't said whether or not he that suspect was hit by a bullet. we're going have a live report from the scene in the next half hour but those are the details and of course we'll update i was as any come in between now and then. for now we're live in the satellite center, erin o'hearn channel6 "action news." back to you matt. >> thank you. police investigating whether a shooting in bucks county was a drive-by. it happened near bath and buckley streets in bristol borrow yesterday evening. a man in his 20's was shot in the head and rushed to the hospital. so far there are no arrests. a car collided with a csx
freight train in paulsboro gloucester county. viewer video shows the scene last night at beacon avenue and monroe street. somehow the driver a paulsboro resident was not hurtly. >> philadelphia detectives are on the lookout for a group of nine men who wore ski masks while roning the bloomingdale's outlet at the shops at liberty place in center city. they ransacked the clothing racks last night specifically swiping the high end jeans. they made off with 20 to 30 pairs worth at least $2,000. >> homeowners and utility crews will be cleaning up the mess today from yesterday's storm and wind damage. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live in bellmawr camden county where residents spent the night without power. annie. >> reporter: and matt, things are getting better here. there are improvements as far as restoring the power in this area but still a couple hundred people are in the dark but take a look at the damage that is left behind. behind me you can see downed wires, you can see that tree in the front yard that of home completely uprooted. damage like this is all over
the area. >> like snap, crackle pop and i saw it coming down right from the kitchen window. sparks flying, bang. >> reporter: carol says a tree fell on herman clue what home taking down power lines with it. the fast moving storm did not stop there. there were downed lines on major roadways like mantua pike in west deptford and route 130. they caused traffic issues, too. winds knocked down this camden billboard and on the walt whitman bridge toppled tractor-trailers delayed traffic for an hour. >> these tractor-trailerss were like swaying and when i saw the one fall overlooks like someone had a giant hand and pushed it over. >> reporter: over in bellmawr 20,000 pse&g customers were without electricity. and that number has gotten significantly better. it is now over 300 people that are without power. they're hoping to have that back on by 10:00 a.m. there's even more damage around our area including over

afternoon it was lovely. >> it was nice, balmy. i went out for a walk. that rain ended right when i got home from work. it was perfect. a little cloudy this morning, on the cool side. you'll want a coat this morning but matt and tam are right, it's not as bad as it has been for the last couple weeks. storm tracker6 live double scan showing the only precipitation moving away from us up over long island. we have sky6 and things looking fairly tranquil. the winds right now are on the light side across the region and so the water looking fairly calm there. looks like we've got a couple of barges
and tug boats in the delaware across penn's landing. currently 38 degrees. cool enough for coats. winds only at 5 miles per hour so not a real big impact wind chill this morning. and satellite shows you a lot of clouds. there could be some breaks during the day but i expect today to be sort of a clouds with some sunny breaks kind
of sky cover. future tracker6 also shows you that this afternoon and this is 2 o'clock this afternoon we'll be keeping our eyes on the northern and western suburbs. there is the possibility by 4, 5 o'clock that a couple of spots start to see a little brief stray snow shower pop in and some of that might still be up there in the lehigh valley in particular by maybe seven, 8 o'clock and then it's gone. i think most of you probably miss this and i'm not entirely sold on the fact that allentown gets any of this but something to keep your eyes on later this afternoon. 35 degrees by 8 o'clock in philadelphia. 38 still chilly by 10:00. but then 41 by noon and we'll get a high pretty average for this time of year, 44 degrees at 3 o'clock. little bit of a breeze every now and then and clouds mixing with some sunny breaks. high temperatures across the
region, everybody is a little bit cooler than yesterday. 43 in allentown,ly from in reading, 43 on the thermometer later today in trenton. 44 in philadelphia, 43 in wilmington and looks like a couple spots farther south might get up to about 45 for a high. pretty even temperatures across the region today. and then tomorrow high pressure is in control and unfortunately it's going to dish a little bit more avenue northerly flow that will cool us down. we'll get plenty of sunshine tomorrow but a bit of a chilly breeze out of the north-northwest an high tomorrow of just 39 degrees. that will be the low point in the week though and you'll see that in the seven day. today's high 44 degrees. the accuweather exclusive seven day shows you clouds some sun and again spotty snow showers possible in a couple places north and west, really low impact. thursday a high of 39. more clouds on friday and friday probably in the evening hours there's a chance especially north and west of a little snow shower popping up. and then saturday a surge of mild air comes back into play. breezy, mild, a high all the way up to 60 degrees with
partly sunny skies. sunday sun will mix with clouds as we go through the day but another decent high of 56 degrees and then sunday night we'll be on the lookout for a little shower. mostly cloudy on monday, a high of 53. and monday night in through tuesday there's the possibility of a wintry mix of rain and snow and maybe a little sleet mixed in. we'll keep our eyes on that. that's mainly centered on tuesday. remember when we're not on the air you can always check out 6abc.com/weather and get the latest forecast information. little chilly out there this morning but it gets up to seasonable conditions later this afternoon and winds only about eight to 16 miles per hour. that's not too bad. >> okay. we'll deal. thanks, david. >> yeah. >> new this morning apple's ceo says it will fight a judge's order to unlock a cell phone owned by one of the people responsible for the san bernadino terror attacks. the fbi wants to analyze the contents of the iphone that belonged to syed farook. he and his wife opened fire at a holiday party back in december killing 14 people. the two rewie later killed in a shootout with police. the judge's order requires app

american airlines suing the company that provides its in flight wifi service. the airline says go go service is just too slow. american wants to get out of its contract because it says it's got a better offer from its competitor but go go says it has no checks that it has to put into place. the rollout of it will be slo slow. major stock indices saw gains. dow up 220 points. the futures were pointing to a higher open. a one of a kind aston martin used in the latest james bond movie is up for auction. if you saw the movie you know it was part of a key scene. it was created just for the film. it can hit a top speed of 190 miles per hour and if you're james bond you can do a lot of things in that car but if you're the rest of us you can't actually -- that,, too you can't drive it on the town. it doesn't have any road certifications because it wasn't made to be on the road. it was made just for the movie. it's still expected to sell for $2.1 million. >> you can put it over your fireplace or something but you can't drive it.
>> welcome back. taking a live look here the view from sky6 across philadelphia international airport. very different view this morning than we had yesterday. right now it is 4:49 and 39 degrees out there. >> different from yesterday is good 'cause yesterday morning was tough for some people. now we're looking live here and the roads are dry. we're watching for a slick spot or two but not seeing until real problems with that. this is i-95 approaching the betsy ross bridge. overnight construction nearby has cleared so all lanes opened and looking pretty good with no delay. we've got a fallen tree and some downed wires causing a problem right here so watch for this. this is in tinicum township bucks county. with those strong winds expect situations like this that we had yesterday. river road route 32 closed between smith town road and dark hollow road. stick to mount airy road as your alternate. here in burlington county new jersey the ramp from the james fenimore cooper service area to the new jersey turnpike northbound is blocked because of an accident here. we're hearing that someone is
reportedly trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle here so we've got emergency workers coming to the scene and they've shut down that ramp. the turnpike is moving okay. seeing speeds of 65 miles per hour. in new castle county i told you about this accident here in new castle on the ramp from 295 southbound to i-95 northbound. but it has just cleared so traffic is moving better. back to you. >> thank you, karen. pope francis concludes his trip to mexico today with a stop in the border city of juarez. the pontiff is that scheduled to actually visit the u.s. border right at the fence and give a blessing in honor of migrants. he returns to the vatican later tonight. it was a frightening moment for the pope yesterday. he was shaking hands with well wishers at a stadium when someone seemed to pull on his garment and knock him over onto a child in a wheelchair. pope francis wasn't hurt but he quickly scolded those responsible. >> the body of supreme court justice antonin scalia will lie in repose friday at the high court. his funeral will be in
washington. scalia's courtroom chair has been draped in black bunting as has the front of the bench. scalia was a justice there for 30 years. president obama repeated that he intends to nominate a new justice. he challenged his republican opponents in the senate to rise above what he called venom and rancor but there is no sign that the senate leader mitch mcconnell is ready to change his position that the next supreme court justice should be nominated by the next president. >> an 18-year-old is under arrest accused of practicing medicine without a license. authorities i was malachi love robinson was so good he was able to run his own medical clinic in west palm beach florida. a tip came in to police about love robinson following his facility's grand opening in january. they sent a female undercover officer who says love robinson gave her a physical exam and medical advice. love robinson disputes he was posing as a doctor. >> it's 4:51. we continue to follow a developing story.
the driver splashed up three parked cars ripping the front bumper right off of one vehicle. no injuries were reported. the woman accused of trying to kill her barber over a haircut has pleaded not guilty to premeditated attempted murder. 29-year-old adrienne swain returned to the barber slop in san diego back on wednesday. according to police with a. [gunfire] and pulled the trigger three times. the handgun was loaded but didn't fire. the prosecution claims she didn't rack the chamber first. the judge raised her bail at the hearing yesterday. if found guilty she's looking at life in prison without the possibility of parole. a thief stealing a little girl's birthday gifts. the box of gifts were delivered just before noon on monday. homeowner eric truitt says surveillance cameras caught someone coming to the porch and taking the package. truitt posted video of the suspect's car on social media and alerted investigators.
then yesterday truitt found his daughter's stolen gifts wrapped in tarp with an apology note and cash. >> our concern is that there's a wider net of victims. here whose voice isn't represented, that have had things stolen from them that aren't going to have them returned that aren't going receive an apology. >> deputies arrest towed people on unrelated charges and are interviewing them about the package thefts. >> a german short haired point that won best in show. the prestigious dog competition was held last night in new york's madison square garden. the winning dog his name is cj beat out more than 2700 other dogs. i just like the way he stands. very regal. the oscars are going vintage this year. the statue has a slightly new look based on the original trophy from 1929. a new art fine art foundry spent three months restoring the features of the original designs using digital scans and 3-d printers. it's plated in 24 karat gold
