>> think spring. phillies pitchers and catchers are reporting to clearwater florida today. >> good morning every win. it's 5:30 on the dot on this wednesday february 17th. weather and traffic with david and karen. >> we're off to a somewhat cloudy start. satellite shows you that but we are dry across the region and there may be some sunny breaks. we're seeing some of that down to our south and west. overall i think it's clouds and some sun today but generally speaking the clouds winning out. remember drivers that we had those strong wind gusts yesterday up to 50 miles per hour or more. that did put some debris on roads. a lot of tree branches and things like that around so keep an eye out for that. in some cases as karen rogers has been saying we have wires and trees down. 35 degrees in philadelphia, cold this morning. 35 in wilmington, 35 in trenton, 36 in allentown and reading and a little chillier below freezing in a couple spots down south including millville and cape may. on the bus stop this morning, then dress warmly. 34 degrees by 6 o'clock, 35 by 8 o'clock. mostly cloudy, cold, just a little bit breezy. and as we roll through the day, chillier than yesterday but not a bad day overall with

clouds mixing with some sun, a little breezy and get, up to a high of 44 degrees at 3 o'clock. there's a slight chance of a late afternoon or early evening snow shower popping up in the northern and western suburbs. mostly in the poconos. these are small low impact events. karen rogers what are roads looking like this morning? >> unlike the past few commutes we have no weather related problems so that's good news. looking live at i-95 at allegheny you might want to watch for a slick spot or two. we had people reporting on twitter up in the northwest and the driveways a little bit of an issue. here we're looking southbound heading towards center city. everybody is doing just fine right now and the overnight construction near the betsy ross bridge has cleared. we do have an issue here way tree that came down and brought down wires with it in those 50 miles an hour wind gusts we had yesterday. this is river road in tinicum township and it's shut down at this point at smith town road so if you're in this area stick to mount airy road as your alternate for that one. burlington bristol bridge scheduled to go up at about 6:10 for a northbound ship. stick to the turnpike connector instead. so watch for the burlington bristol to n mount laurel

burlington county this is our serious accident of the morning. we're hearing that someone is trapped in the wreckage of a vehicle here that's in burlington county in mount laurel on the ramp right now from james fenimore cooper service area to the new jersey turnpike northbound. so, the ramp is shut down. we've got police and fire crews all on the scene. now, the turnpike itself is moving okay. we're seeing speeds of 65 miles an hour but you can't use that ramp, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. and we continue to follow a developing story coming in from allentown. a police officer was shot while trying to serve a warrant. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live for us now outside of lehigh valley hospital. that's where the officer is being treated. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, today. and we do hope to learn more later on today but we do know an allentown officer was shot in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect while serving a warrant last night. the officer was taken here to lehigh valley hospital in stable condition. we're being told he was shot in the arm. police haven't said what the injuries to the suspect were but he was taken here, too. now, let's go to video from last night.

you can see it was a heavy police presence there last night at 616 godfrey street in allentown. this happened just before 10:00 p.m. allentown police were executing a search warrant at an apartment there. the police chief says the warrant was related to a homicide investigation from last sunday when an unidentified woman was found in a recycling bin. so, last night officers from the emergency response team were approaching the door to serve that warrant when police say they were met by gunfire. and they fired back at the suspect. neighbors reported hearing officers using bull horns and instructing someone to drop their weapon. >> it was an exchange of gunfire between our officers and the individual inside. after a brief standsoff, he had been secured and transported to lehigh valley hospital for treatment. >> reporter: and some nearby residents were evacuated. they were allowed to return home around 1:30 this morning. as for the suspect, police

haven't specified what his injuries are and they also haven't said what condition he's in but we do know the officer remains here in stable condition. we're live in allentown, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> katherine thank you for. in and a possible drive-by shooting injured a man in bucks county. chopper6 was over the scene at bath and buckley streets in bristol borough last night. the victim is described as a plan in his 20's. he was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound his head. no arrests have been made. >> ♪ >> new this morning, a driver is in custody after going on a demolition derby in delaware county this morning. the action cam found the damage along the 500 block of south 13th street in darby borough. the driver smashed up three parked cars ripping the front bumper right off of one of them. no injuries were reported. bill cosby lost a legal fight that would have put his appeal on criminal charges on the fast track and also trade his next court appearance. the montgomery county judge refused to dismiss the sexual assault case against bill cosby now has denied his appeal of that decision.

but another appeal filed with pennsylvania superior court is still pending. cosby is charged with indecently assaulting former temple university staff andrea constand 2004. >> powerful winds left lined a lot of damage. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live for us now in bellmawr camden county where some people still are in the dark. they don't have power. good morning, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tam. that's right, there's going to be a lot of cleanup and still people waiting to get their power back on. dopped wires are here. that's why this police line such. also in the front yard of this home an uprooted tree that fell on the home next today. well, at this hour as they're waiting for power to be turned back on several hundred people are still in the dark. >> it was like snap, crackle, pop and i saw it coming down right from the kitchen window. sparks flying, bang. >> reporter: next carol says a tree fell on herman clue what home taking down power lines with it. the fast moving storm did not stop there.

there were downed lines on major roadways like mantua pike in west deptford and route 130 near the brooklawn circle. it caused traffic issue, too. winds knocked down this camden billboard and on the walt whitman bridge, toppled tractor-trailers delayed traffic for an hour. >> these tractor-trailers were like swaying. when i saw the one fall over it looked like someone had a giant hand and just pushed it over. >> reporter: over in bellmawr at the height of the storm, 20,000 pse&g customers were without electricity. over the bridge in holmesburg, the winds are to blame for ring a roof off the holmesburg boys and girls club. officials say it happened in a powerful two minute gust. the club just raised money to install the roof and they have no insurance. >> feel bad for all the kids in the neighborhood, you know. they have games this weekend, practices, the families, the parents. you just feel bad for everybody. >> reporter: and a lot of damage in the tri-state area in such a short amount of time. now, as for here in bellmawr people waiting to get their

this morning but temperatures have dipped back down into the 30's across most of the region so it's chilly. 35 degrees in philadelphia, winds light at 6 miles per hour. wind chill making it feel like it's about 30 degrees this morning. cloud cover is also thickened up a bit although we'll manage to get some sunny breaks as we go through the day generally speaking clouds with some sun. that's the way we're playing it. also late this afternoon and into this evening in the poconos there's the possibility of a brief snow shower. some of this may work its way down into places like allentown, bethlehem, easton and maybe into northern bucks or montgomery county. this is low impact, pretty brief, pretty spotty and most of you will not see that. just have to throw it out there as a mention. overall the story today is that clouds and sun mix and how temperatures are a little bit cooler but seasonable. 35 degrees by 8 o'clock. 38 degrees by 10:00. 41 by noon. and your high today is 44 right around average for this time of year across the region, 42 degrees by 5 o'clock, a little bit on the breezy side, mainly dry. high temperatures pretty even

across the the region. 43 your high in allentown reading trenton. forty four philadelphia. 45 in millville, that's about as mild as we're going to see this afternoon. and then tomorrow high pressure is that in control bringing us lots of sunshine but there's still going to be a little bit of a flow coming down out of the northwest and that's going to continue to draw in cooler air from the great lakes and we'll wind up with a high tomorrow of just 39 degrees. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, today's high is 44, clouds mixing with some sun, a brief spotty snow showers possible up in the poconos maybe extending into the lehigh valley. thursday sunny and chilly, a high of 39. little on the breezy side. and then friday more clouds digging in with a high of 41 and there is the chance of a shower at night on friday or maybe late in the day. and then saturday a warm front gets past us and we really have a nice one. we'll be in the 30's for about a wink in the morning and then after that we climb to the 40's and 50's and we'll get up to an afternoon high of 60. it will be a little bit breezy but really nice. and then sunday sun giving way to increased clouds an high of 56 degrees and then again in

overnight. this is 309 just past the pennsylvania turnpike and we're seeing a little slick spot or two mostly off to the sides of the road so be careful as you're heading on and off the ramps. you're looking pretty good ought there overall. new hanover township on big road at ludwig road. watch for police on the scene. they are blocking a lane here on big road. and there's an accident investigation going on right now in newark, delaware and old baltimore pike is shut down at old cooches road. a downed pole from an earlier accident on 168 southbound right near nicholson road in haddon township camden county. expect slowing. we have two lanes blocked. if that stays out during your morning commute that will become more of an issue as more people get out on the roads. let's check these temperatures. 33 in martins creek, 37 pottstown, 35 in saint davids and center city. it's not as mild as it was yesterday morning but it's dry at least so you get a trade-off. 32 in hammonton but below that in vineland, only 29 degrees

headed up to 44, back to average today, matt and tamly. >> okay, thank you, karen. new this morning, an 18-year-old is under arrest accused of practicing medicine without a license. malachi love robinson was apparently so good at it he got as far as running his own medical clinic. love robinson was reportedly caught giving a physical exam to a female undercover officer. the teen claims the allegations are false. >> new this morning, apple ceo tim cook is responding to an unprecedented court order. the fbi hasn't been able to get into syed farook's work issued phone for two months. so, they want apple to disable an auto erase feature, a feature apple says doesn't exist. authorities hope to obtain crucial evidence on the husband and wife team who carried out the deadly attack in california last december.

overnight tim cook published a message to customers on apple's web site explaining his position. while apple is comfortable handing over data to law enforcement that is already in its possession, the company is against creating software that allows a back door to the iphone putting any user's security at risk if the program was to get into the wrong hands. >> happening today, florida lottery officials will present checks to the people who are sharing last month's historic powerball jackpot. a public supermarket in melbourne sold one of the three winning tickets. the winners are splitting the $1.58 billion jackpot with others in california and tennessee. the couple from tennessee already took the lurch cash pitt payout. they're still waiting to hear the decision from the winners out west. this is the top dog in the world. cj. the german short haired pointer won best in show at the westminster kennel club last night. cj beat out more than 2700 others competing in the

wednesday february 17th and we're following several new and developing stories. >> a police officer is on the mend after gunfire erupted in allentown late last night. we're live with the developing details. >> the search is on for the vandals who left their mark on a philadelphia park. >> a calmer end to the work week is on tap compared to the wild weather that we started off with. >> let's get things calm for you here and turn to meteorologist, david murphy and karen rogers. >> i still got the winter coat on this morning because we have seen temperatures drop a bit but yeah winds aren't all that strong. as you take a look at satellite, there's no precipitation this morning. that's down to the south. we have a fair amount of cloud cover but there will probably be some sunny breaks as we go through the morning and afternoon. we did have strong winds on tuesday gusting as high as 50 miles per hour or more so a driver's alert this morning that there will be some debris on roads every now and then and keep an eye out for that. karen rogers mentioned too that up in the northern suburbs some people have been complaining about little icy driveways and stuff like that so be careful the farther north you go but the temperature is up to 36 in allentown and 36 in reading.
