>> reporter: it is guy day, of course, we are three great -- i guess you will be the judge of that, storm tracker 6 live showing the rain is gone, we're looking at sunshine today. definitely the calm before the storm. it's going to be beautiful out there with lots of sun. the temperature as is slipped to 66 degrees. it's cooler across the region and not as humid. 65 degrees by 7:00 a.m. great morning for a run or just to get that walk into the bus stop or el station, 72 by 10:00 a.m., 77 by newspaper. the high today will be 82 degrees we'll get that in around 4:00 p.m. we have a tropical storm watch that's been posted as of late yesterday across the entire jersey coastline and the delaware coastline we're looking for strong winds coming in off the shore as the remnants of hermine pass us by saturday night into sunday. we'll get the heavy surf and

coastal flooding and possible power outages that could extend into philadelphia. the hurricane is still a hurricane. the center is pushing into southern georgia. we'll have more on the track and what to expect at the shore and across the rest of the region coming up, karen. >> reporter: all right, dave let's hit the roads, we have a good start to the day, the vine street expressway is shut down it will reopen at 5:00 a.m. don't forget the westbound off ramp to the benjamin franklin parkway will be close to closed 10:00 a.m., saturday through 11 for the made in america festival. spring garden street shut down between pennsylvania avenue and the benjamin franklin parkway. the other road closures start tomorrow morning and last through monday morning. so just watch for that as you're traveling around the city. burlington bristol bridge opening right about now, stick

to the tacony-palmyra. >> hurricane hermine is arriving in florida and moving across the panhandle right now. we are tracking this storm because it could have an impact on our holiday weekend. first up, st. petersburg florida, that's where it made landfall. you can see the trees are being blown around, we're seeing lightning strikes, saint petersburg whetherring the storm right now -- weathering the storm right now. this is the first hurricane to hit florida in ten years. abc's adrien bankard filed this report. >> reporter: hurricane hermine making landfall and gaining momentum, flash flooding in places like clearwater, hermine

continues to batter parts of florida's coast with 12-foot waves. ten inches of rain expected. the governor urging floridaians to get ready for three days of supplies. >> bottom line, life threatening, if you need to go to a shelter go now. >> i'm worried about the tidal surge. >> reporter: but some are in town riding out the waves, despite signs to stay out of the water. >> it's severe, there's 4 1/2 inches of water inside the house. >> many are staying on their boats. >> you have to losen the lines and tighten the lines. >> reporter: many are putting down sandbags and moving to higher ground. things are expected to worsen through the holiday weekend with tropical storms watches and

warnings all the way up to the jersey shore. abc news new york. >> people in businesses along the jersey shore are keeping a track on hermine. the storm could put a damper on the holiday plans. there you have it right there, dreary rainfall could be a preview of what's to come this weekend. some residents say they are board up their windows in case hermine makes a turn toward the jersey shore. the storm is bad timing. the long holiday weekend is a hot one for businesses along the boardwalk. a popular spot at manco and manco pizza. >> it's a concern of ours, when there's a storm a lot of people don't head to the shore, it does affect sales. >> we depend on the holiday weekend, tourism is the number one driver of the economy here, anytime you impact that with the

weather event it does damage to the local economy. >> main businesses say they will board windows and sandbag if that's necessary. >> made in america festival final preparations are being made for the music festival. live nation said they do not have a weatheright now, but some concert goers plan to be there rain or shine. use our inter active map to check the storm's latest path and the impact it will have on the area. >> a bicyclist is dead after being hit by a car. police say the driver never stopped. they say the driver should have been able to see the bicyclist.

"action news" report he were, annie mccormick joins us live from the scene along frankford avenue with the latest information, annie, what are you hearing about this? >> reporter: gray, i can tell you that the intersection has reopened police are looking for a champaign or silver-colored vehicle with damage to the side mirror. accident investigators gathered a lot of debris of the striking vehicle from the scene. take a look at the video. police say it was before 1:00 a.m. in the 5800 block of frankford avenue when the striking vehicle traveling at a high rate of peed jumped the curve and hit a 43-year-old high rate of speed jumped the curb and hit a 43-year-old in the bike lane. the victim's bike had flashing safety devices at the time he was hit. >> this was a very violent

crash. the bicycle that the victim was riding was broken in half. the victim's body was launched about 50 feet north of where we believe the initial point of impact was. >> >> reporter: police say the striking vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on frankford avenue. reporting live mayfair, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." back to you. >> new overnight, one man is dead after a shooting that happened in southwest philadelphia. shots damaged the window of a day care center, as well. police say the victim was approached by two people on the 1800 block of south 58th street late last night. he was shot in the chest and managed to run to trinity street before collapsing. the man died at the hospital. >> students in rowan university

are told not to drink the water. health officials discovered lead in the water on the glassboro campus. they say the problem lies within the campus itself, specifically old building and piping. students are advised to avoid fountains or taps. school is handing out bottled water by the case. what is is stinking up the town. folks living in one ohio town say the air is so bad they can't sit outside. see the unusual choice for promoting street safety for children. >> reporter: calm before the storm. the kids are off to school for what is the end of the first week. it's shorts and ts, things will change over the weekend. i'll have the latest from

is a picture from appear -- florida last night. hermine is the first hurricane to make landfall in the state of florida in a decade. it's currently wrecking havoc as it moves to the north. >> anything about the track that has changed overnight? >> reporter: not a whole lot, it will cause problems at the shore. i can some stuff being blown around and branches coming down.

storm tracker 6storm tracker 6 n showing we're drive. this is sky6 live hd we're going live well to the south. tampa is one of the spots that's south of the center of the storm at this point b but still seeing heavy rain bands coming through. you get thunderstorms in the outer bands of hurricanes. dewpoint has dropped, it's set up a nice day ahead of the arrival of hermine. we're getting sun and clouds, 65 degrees by 8:00 a.m. 77 by lunchtime. in the low 80s this afternoon with a high of 82 around 4:00 p.m. 80 in allentown, lancaster, trenton and similar in wilmington and millville. mid to upper 70s down the shore.

we have an issue with heavy surf and rip currents down the beach. that will be the case through the holiday weekend. 78 in cape may and upper 70s in rehoboth beach and beaches in delaware. a good looking beach day, make sure you swim near the lifeguards and obey the whistles. hurricane hermine this is an update that just came in. it has been downgraded to a tropical storm again. that is is a live update that just happened in the last couple of minutes. looks like the storm will continue inland just inland from the beaches in the carolinas and get off the coast. the latest track does have this storm curling inland a little bit as it starts to push toward atlantic city. it probably will continue up north and get kicked out, but the latest timing on this is to slow the storm down. at 2:00 a.m. on sunday it's just

to our south, monday it still there and even by tuesday, wednesday, it's still in the process of trying to getaway from us, i think the wednesday timing it's a little further away from us, the issue is that the storm will be blocked by high pressure and held in place and meander around in our neck of the woods. spaghetti plot models are showing a lot of variations and possible track also. it gets up here by the area of high pressure and stalls. a couple of tracks come closer to atlantic city, most of them are off the coast. the track of the storm will make a difference in terms of rain. no matter where the track goes i think we'll be looking at strong winds down the shore and related problems. late saturday into sunday will be the worst of the shore effects. look for prolonged onshore winds, gusts up to 60 miles per

hour. 0 coastal flooding and erosion and heavy rain. this latest model run shows significant rain down the shore, less as you go inland toward philadelphia and the i-95 corridor. the other issue is wind gusts sunday 9:00 a.m., as we go through the day is into nighttime, there are higher winds gusts. up in philadelphia, a 34-mile an hour is possible. there's concern large tree branches may have problems and power problems, as well. especially close to the shore and up in philadelphia. awnings and sheds loose debris, be careful driving around over the weekend. today we're looking at a comfortable day out there, the weekend highs of 77. increasing clouds oh, saturday, we go up to sunday, i should say that's when the worst of the wind and rain down the shore

arrives. remember, if you're away from the tv set or we're not on the air check out the latest weather information, i will fix that seven day and get that for you in the next half-hour. >> breaking news here, a fire and explosion damaged a home in delaware county in riddy township at 2:30 a.m. when crews arrived they found a small fire in the garage. within moments there was an explosion. that came from a gasoline tank that spread the fire. firefighters kept the damage to the garage and no one was hurt. people in one ohio neighborhood say they cannot go outside because the air smells so bad there. fire destroyed warehouse in columbus two weeks ago. the fire department said the cold storage facility there was storing 70 semi trailers full of ham. people say the foul smell started a few days ago when it

>> reporter: welcome back we're looking live in atlantic city, the beginning of what will be a holiday weekend as we watch tropical storm hermine traveling up the coast. let's take a look outside, route 42. this is northbound traffic at creek road, quiet, no problems, no delays out there. we expect to see more southbound traffic as people head to the shore. we expect that will happen today. burlington bristol bridge. we're watching in burlington county, 130 at high street. an accident investigation going on, two left lanes are blocked. watching for early restrictions in burlington county. now we're looking at the burlington bristol bridge, traffic is stop. stick to the tacony-palmyra. we have an accident in new castle county. they have shut down the road, you have to stick to route 40 or i-95 instead of highway one northbound.

things will be back to normal for commuters who use septa regional rails. four cars went back into service yesterday. they expect the regional rail line to be back up to full speed by mid november. septa pulled 100 cars from service in july after potentially dangerous defects were discovered. regular weekday service will return next month. sales of cars are down slipping by 4% by the month of august. car makers are bracing for this. it's not clear if it will lead directly to more sales. stocks were slightly up, s&p 500 futures are pointing to a mixed open. pumpkin spice lattes have returned to starbucks. you can get the favorite fall drink only you have a psl fan
