good morning and welcome to 10 news this morning. i'm allison kropff. and i'm ian reitz. the votes are in, in iowa, where there was a huge turnout

for the republicans - texas senator ted cruz. and the race was so close on the democratic side, that we weren't sure who had won that race until well into the morning. 10 news reporter eric glasser is here with the numbers. and eric, there were some surprises. i think you're going to hear a lot of talk today about the biggest winners in last night's caucuses being people who didn't even win, but will emerge from iowa with huge momentum. on the democratic side, well into the morning hours, hillary clinton and bernie sanders had been deadlocked. only about an hour ago did it finally appear clinton had, in fact, edged-out sanders by less than a point. early in the evening bernie sanders had called the outcome a virtual tie, and in doing so considered it a victory heading into new hampshire- where he will have both momentum, and a sizable lead in the polls there. clinton, will at least be able to claim she won in iowa, albeit by a thin margin. and the effect of her classified email issues appear to taking a toll. as for the republicans. the big winner of the night, and was ted

with the highest number of delegates. donald trump came in about four points behind cruz. and look at this. just one point behind trump was florida's junior senator marco rubio. and because of that strong showing - especially among what had been undecided iowans, rubio is likely to be the guy people are talking about today. again - not winning, but scoring a big victory and carrying momentum into new hampshire. so if those were the big winners, who are the losers in last night's caucus? well with a huge turnout, and there was one, many people thought donald trump would benefit. he clearly did not. rubio's fellow floridian former governor jeb bush did not finish in the top tier.

huckabee had such a poor showing in iowa - where he'd won in 2008, that he's decided to call it quits. and ben carson. a respectable 4th place finisher last night - skipping new hampshire to come home to florida? more on that decision in the next half hour. eric glasser 10news wtsp. now that iowa caucuses are over, all eyes will be on new hampshire. the new hampshire primary is on february 9. followed by nevada and south carolina later this month. march first is super tuesday.. when people in 14 states will cast their ballots. florida's primary is march 15th. homicide investigation is underway in plant city. police say they got a call about two people having some sort of argument on west baker street. when they arrived they found 31-year- old jose cazares in the yard. he was taken to the hospital where he later died. as of right now, it's unknown how he died or if police have anyone in custody. if you're heading out west today, you may want to check with your airline. hundreds of

canceled because of a massive snowstorm. this is video out of colorado springs where snow packed roads are making driving extremely dangerous. and that snowstorm continues to move east. right now, people in kansas are expecting at least a few inches of snow by this morning. this is a look in colby, in the northwest corner of kansas, where crews spent most of monday putting salt on the roads. people there are being told to stay off the roads until plows can come through. new this morning.. a virginia man is facing 20 years in prison for attacking a passenger and two flight attendant while flying from washington d-c to jacksonville. a criminal complaint document says on sunday 36 year old michael sharkey put one passenger in a headlock and assaulted two flight attendants while they tried to restrain him. a detention hearing is set for tomorrow. a story we're staying on top of for you.. this morning, a tampa man is behind bars after admitting to making home-made

they found the explosives, along with guns, grenades and tear gas inside michael ramos' tampa home. that's near jesuit high and st. joseph's hospital. a friend and co- worker tipped off investigators. ramos tells agents that he made the pipe bombs for preparedness and protection... saying he's unhappy with the government and part of a st. pete militia. agents say if the explosives would have gone off it could have injured or killed neighbors within 50 feet... including his landlord, who shared the home with him. ramos told investigators, he bought most everything he needed for the bombs online - using his girlfriend's credit card. it's a plan that could bring thousands of jobs to the state, including right here in the bay area. governor rick scott and the seminole tribe of florida are pushing for lawmakers to approve a new gaming compact with a nearly two billion dollar expansion plan for two tribe casinos, including

tampa it would provide the state three billion over a seven year time period in exchange for limits on the tribe's competition and other guarantees. comedian and actor bill cosby will be back in a pennsylvania court again today. the 78-year-old and his attorneys are expected to ask the judge to throw out the criminal sex assault case against him. cosby's lawyers argue he is protected under an oral agreement with a past district attorney. it said cosby wouldn't be prosecuted in exchange for his deposition in a civil case. cosby is charged with three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault. those are for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting andrea constand in his home in 2004. as san francisco ramps up security for the super bowl, local law enforcement agencies are already gearing up for another big game. 10 news reporter emerald morrow is live outside raymond james stadium. that's where teams will face off in the 2017 college

here are other headlines from around the nation and the world in your 60 second scan. the city of chicago has had a deadly start to the year. there were 51 homicides just in january. that's the most in that month since at least 2000. police say they also responded to 241 reported shootings in january, more than double from january of last year. chicago usually records more homicides than any other u-s city, but these new numbers show a shocking spike in violence. bad news for people looking to get around san francisco for the super bowl. uber drivers are protesting the company's decision to reduce fares. uber has slashed rates by as much as 15 percent in the

the company says previous cuts benefited drivers by reducing wait times for fares. san francisco is relying on uber to help with the additional traffic in town for this weekend's super bowl. today, president obama is meeting with republican leaders over the agenda for his last year in office. he'll be meeting specifically with house speaker paul ryan to try and compromise on some of his policies that may be losing steam. it's their first meeting since ryan was elected speaker in october. how much would the worst home in the best neighborhood go for these days? in northridge, california that answer is nearly half-a-million dollars. take a look. this three bedroom home has holes in the ceilings and roots growing in the shower. dirt, dust and cobwebs cover every surface. but the listing agent says there's always someone who will turn it around.
