good morning and welcome to 10 news this morning. i'm allison kropff. and i'm mark rivera in for ian. thanks for waking up with us. right now-- people living in eastern mississippi and western alabama are picking up after tornados touched down, ravaging several homes. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is in studio. sarah, this is part of a huge storm system dumping snow in other parts of the country.

digging out from more than a foot of snow...which is now on its way to the upper midwest. and it's that same winter storm that brought these damaging twisters to mississipi and alabama. take a look-- you can see one of those damaging tornados right here. somehow nobody was hurt, but the damage is extreme. at least six tornadoes have been reported in mississippi and alabama, but it's likely that they're all from the same system. ravaged by tornados, still aren't in the clear. thunderstorms and flash flooding continues this morning in the southeast. mike deering ruby kennedy

heard from live in newton county, mississippi, where dozens of homes were damaged destroyed in the storm. here's what i'm working on right now-- we're learning even a federal prison was damaged in the tornado. i'll look at where we're seeing the most damage and which areas could be in danger next. allison..... a blizzard continues to sweep across the country bringing snow from colorado to wisconsin. to give you an idea of how big this is, nearly 13 million people have been impacted. parts of colorado are digging out from more than a foot of snow. in kansas, conditions lefts drivers little visibility and several big rigs were stranded, even plows were having trouble. 16-hundred people lost power in lincoln, nebraska.

schedules seem to be back on track. presidential candidates are hitting the campaign trail in new hampshire today. that caucus is next tuesday, february ninth. there were a lot of mixed emotions after iowa. donald trump is brushing off his second place finish to senator ted cruz. he says he was told he would have a hard time in iowa and didn't spend as much time and effort there. florida senator marco rubio is hoping he can build on his strong third place finish.. just one percent behind trump. hillary clinton won't have long to celebrate her marginal victory over bernie sanders. she enters the new hampshire caucus as the underdog by 18 points according to a recent poll. this morning health officials are scrambling to address what they are now calling a global health emergency. the zika virus is popping up once again in the u-s and people in florida are suffering. 10news reporter emerald morrow is live outside the florida department of health. emerald, we have more people in our

supreme court ruling might apply to their cases. last month, the u-s supreme court found that florida's system of imposing death sentences was unconstitutional because it gave too much decision- making power to judges instead of juries. morris is on death row for the 2010 murders of tampa police officers david curtis and jeffrey kocab. the u.s. house oversight committee will hold the first congressional hearing into the flint, michighan water crisis today. this comes as michigan governor rick snyder will meet with city officials and pastors to propose 30 million dollars in state funding to help pay the water bills of those who are severely affected by the crisis. he will then bring the proposal to lawmakers next week. new this morning, d-n-a from the marines killed in a helicopter crash off the coast of hawaii last month may have been found. the u-s marine corps says the families of the identified victims were notified. the coast guard first reported that two helicopters collided during nighttime training

the cause is still being investigated. now that combat jobs are open to them, top army and marine corps generals are pushing that all women should have to register for the draft. the say told a senate committee it will take up to three years before combat posts are fully integrated. they also say they will not lower standards to bring women into more grueling types of jobs. a denver broncos player that made the trip to san francisco for the super bowl has been sent home. ryan murphy, who was listed on the team's practice squad, has been questioned in a prostitution sting, but released by police. it happened on tuesday in a motel parking lot. his brother and a suspected prostitute were cited in the operation. broncos coach, gary kubiak, said in a statement that it was better for the prepare for the murphy. we sometimes nice weather we have friends and family up north. now, there's a marketing scheme built around that idea in chicago. every wednesday, several uber cars will be wrapped in

news back in the morning. here are other headlines around second scan. today president mosque for the first time as president. it comes at a time when muslim- americans say they are seeing an increase in threats and attacks on places of worship. obama will visit the islamic society of baltimore. his message will focus on speaking out against bigotry in a world of growing anti- semitism. eight people are recovering after being rescued from flood waters in rankin county, mississippi. the sheriff's office and fire department were evacuating people but because of how quickly the water was rising.. called in. heavy rains caused the flooding.. but waters have since receded.

mississippi. luckily no one there was hurt when a tornado rolled through. some people say it came so unexpectedly, they barely made it to shelter when they started seeing hail and debris. the first case of the zika virus transmitted through sexual contact has been confirmed in texas. just one day after the world health organization declared the virus a global health emergency. doctors say that person was exposed to someone that had it in a tropical region where the zika is circulating. the virus is mostly spread by mosquitoes. if the top army and marine generals get their way, women could soon be able to register for a draft. they say it should a be a possibility since combat jobs are open to them. they told a senate committee that it'll take up to three years before the combat posts are fully integrated. they also say the military will not lower standards to bring women into the more grueling jobs. check this out.. united airlines is making it easier for parents to travel. after four years, the airline will once again allow families with children under the age of two to
