i'm allison kropff. and i'm ian reitz. breaking news right now-- florida highway patrol are directing drivers around a fatal crash on the nb lanes of the howard franklin. a tow truck driver was hit and killed. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is on scene. sarah, is this slowing down traffic? it's not slowing things down too much. 2 lanes are still open around this scene and you can see traffic whizzing by. fhp troopers tell me a tow truck driver was hooking up a disabled suv on the side of the road when a black volkswagon hit and killed the tow truck driver then sped off. troopers are looking for that driver right now- the black volkswagon will have heavy damage to the right side. ironically, fhp's hit and run campaign kicks off today urging drivers to never leave the scene of the crash-- because investigators can and will find you. 10investigates

only vote for your party's candidates. a high turnout is expected from all over the state. this morning republicans and democrats are at odds with who president obama should nominate to replace u-s supreme court justice antonin scalia. scalia was known for his conservative values. with several issues to be decided over the next few months, the supreme court is even between conservatives and liberals. scalia passed away over the weekend from natural causes at a texas ranch. his body was taken to virginia early this morning. police in mississippi are questioning two men they say shot an officer in the head. corporal derrick couch is in critical condition. law enforcement say this surveillance video shows the moments leading up to the shooting on saturday night. they reportedly robbed the convenience store. corporal couch stopped the men to question them and that's when one of them pulled out a gun and fired a shot.

men saw the surveillance video and turned his son into police on sunday. developing out of st. petersburg...police are trying to figure out how an unregistered gun, got into the hands of a four year old. that child fired a shot. police say the boy had been playing outside a home on yale street south on sunday when he chased a cat under the house. the boy found a gun hidden in a crawl space. he took it onto the porch and fired one round into the ground. the boy's family says the gun does not belong to them. investigators believe someone may have tossed the gun under the home to hide it. right now.. police in bradenton are looking for the people responsible for shooting two wild animals. we want to warn you, the images might be hard to see. first, wildlife officials responded to a call about a duck swimming in the water with an arrow sticking out of it! then, a second call.. about a racoon also shot with an arrow. vets rushed to try to perform emergency surgery on the racoon, but it died before the operation. wildlife officials say

anyone involved in the shooting, to reach out to them. a health alert to tell you about this morning about air pollution. doctors in british columbia say it's the fourth highest risk factor for death around the world. more than five and half million people are said to die prematurely every year from poor air quality. more than half of those deaths happen in the world's fastest growing economies of china and india. a new laser technology is helping people get rid of their unwanted tattoos. doctors say the latest f-d-a approved technology called "piqo4" is more effective and anything else on the market. the number of treatments depends on the color and size of the tattoo, but redness and don't experience major side effects.

one person's progress. the treatment can cost several hundred dollars a session. doctors say if you're thinking of getting a tattoo, designs done in dark green or black ink are the easiest to remove later on. just one week after winning the super bowl with the denver broncos.. peyton manning is making headlines once again. he's back in the news for a sexual harrassment lawsuit dating back to his days back at the university of tennessee. the lawsuit.. filed last week by six unidentified women.. says that the university violated title 9 regulations over reports of sexual assaults by student athletes. it includes an incident that reportedly occured in 1996 involving manning and a female trainer. that trainer previously sued manning twice.. boths lawsuits were settled. good news if you need to fill up your gas tank this morning, prices at the pump are still low as they were back in 2009. right now the national average is at about 1.70 per gallon. the average in florida is slightly higher at about 1.75

the death of u-s supreme court justice antonin scalia is sending shock waves through the nation's conservatives are demanding that president obama not replace him in right now the court is evenly divided between liberals and conservatives. the cases up next for the court rights, affirmative action and voting rights. a month from today florida voters will get the chance want as their next president in the state's primary. if you haven't registered to vote yet, there is still time. the application is available online for each county.. but you have to register by tomorrow. keep in mind

register as a republican or democrat in order to vote....and you can only vote for the candidate in the party you register with. tonight is the biggest night of the year for music. it's the 58th annual grammy awards and you can catch them right here on 10 news starting at 8:00. taylor swift will be performing to kick off the awards show. she's nominated in seven categories. other performers include lady gaga, adele, justin beiber and the remaining members of the band the eagles will pay tribute to glenn frey who passed away last month. a man was fined this week after officials discovered he hadn't shown up to work for at least six years. --it was only discovered that when the deputy mayor attempted to give him an award for 20 years of "loyal and dedicated" service in 2010. --the mayor thought "where is this he still there? has he retired?" --turns out he hadn't been in his office for at least six years and had done "absolutely no work" between 2007 and 2010. --he was supposed to be supervising the construction of a water treatment

--investigation looked into this...and fined him 30,000...equal to one year salary ## looking for love in all the wrong places. a wild monkey was captured in a pasco county neighborhood on sunday. appropriately named "valentine" the monkey was captured after being hit with a tranquilizer dart. valentine is likely a cousin of the famous "mystery monkey of tampa bay" cornelius that was captured by the same team in 2012. wildlife experts believe valentine was trying to find a mate after being kicked out of his troop by a dominant male.
