kropff. and i'm ian reitz. right now-- cleanup continues after deadly storms swept through virginia and louisiana killing 8 people and injuring many more. dozens more people are in the hospital this morning in mississippi, alabama and here in florida. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live in the satellite center. sarah, several homes are damaged less than 100 miles southeast of here in punta gorda. yes, and the cleanup will take weeks or months to repair what the ef 1 tornado left behind..packing winds up to 110 miles per hour and destroying homes in just a few minutes

i just checked fpl's back on this morning. 700 people were in some of the people homes are damaged in punta gorda yesterday afternoon, were also torn apart in hurricane charley 30 homes are damaged this morning. county emergency officials say 11 torn apart that people aren't able to live in them. coming up-- i'm going through interviews now with some of the families in punta gorda. their amazing tales of survival in the 110 mile per hour winds. hear from them in 30 minutes. allison... some people in indiana are waking up this morning with up to four feet of snow on the ground. even first responders are saying these are some of the worst conditions they've seen. listen to this: listen to that

blowing snow made it tough for firefighters to rescue stranded drivers. thousands of flights have been canceled as the snow storms moves east. the hillsborough county commission is gridlocked-- in how they'll pay for billions in "critical transportation needs." commissioners met for over two hours yesterday in a budget workshop. most of the discussion was about the transportation funding deficit. county staff says the most reliable source of funding would be a half cent sales tax, but that would have to be approved by the voters. but commissioners are concerned whether or not it could pass, so other taxes like a are being considered. in hillsborough county, "48 cents a gallon" goes to federal, state and local taxes. commissioners workshops scheduled on the budget. when you think of the clearwater marine aquarium, you probably think of winter and hope and all the expansion the aquarium has seen

but there's actually fighting going on behind the scenes, to keep c-m-a from growing any more. 10news reporter emerald morrow is live at the aquarium. emerald, neighbors worry how this will affect their property. - allison, neighbors here at island estates say expanding the clearwater marine aquarium could really hurt their property values and quality of life - and that's really frustrating to them because they say they've been supporters of the aquarium since it started back in the 70s. - what's even more frustrating to them is they say the city didn't even consult with them or ask for input before it was too late - so they're appealing the city's decision to help the aquarium to expand - island estates is a tiny little island just east of the clearwater island...and neighbors say the area was developed as a residential area so this huge commercial expansion ia totally out of line with why people choose to live here - here's what

guantanamo as a naval base something to watch for since medical marijuana could be on the ballot in our state this year. since colorado legalized marijuana two years ago, emergency room visits by out-of- towners have spiked. that's according to a study from northwestern medicine. doctors say experimental pot smokers arent prepared to handle the side effects including hallucinations and anxiety. they also say edible marijuana products often have delayed reactions which could trigger an overdose. now keep in mind, colorado's visit are related mostly to recreational marijuana. listen to this.. apparently americans want bottled water. new research from mintel shows sales of bottled water in the us are up more than six percent.. topping 15 billion dollars in 2015. nearly half of those surveyed say they are drinking more flavored waters, replacing high sugar drinks. if you or someone you know is looking to become a teacher, you'll want to pay attention to this

pasco county schools is holding a job fair today. there are teaching opportunities in several subjects including language arts, math, science and social studies. the job fair is from 4:00 to 6:00 at sunlake high school gym in land o' lakes. space-x will try to launch a communications satellite from cape canaveral again tonight. wednesday's launch was scrapped because of the bad weather. space-x is trying to successfully land its falcon 9 rocket booster on a floating platform in the atlantic ocean. this is something you only hear about from storybooks. if you're busy getting for work or school, stop what your doing and head over to your t-v to see this picture. a cape coral fisherman and his friend pulled this nearly 500 pound grouper from a canal. unfortunately, it was not alive. the fishermen thought the recent release of millions of gallons of nutrient-laden freshwater from lake okeechobee has something to do with dead fish. researchers have taken samples it and won't determine a cause of death for weeks. when they first

a severe storm system that caused destruction in the carolinas and virginia continues to move up the east coast. the storm turned deadly. we know that at least five people in the town of waverly, virginia were killed...after the tiny town was hit by a twister. tornadoes were also reported in north carolina...while

northeast. a tornado also hit punta gorda, florida. 30 homes have hit punta gorda, florida. 30 homes have been damaged, but fortunately no one was killed. a massive snow storm that left four feet of snow in some places across the midwest is moving east. take a look at this video out of indiana. thousands are still without power after the storm rolled in on wednesday. high winds are also as issue for travelers. some people say blowing snow feels like thumbtacks being thrown at them. flights in chicago and along the east coast have been canceled, so if you're heading that way you may want to check with your carrier. clearwater marine aquarium may have the city's approval to expand, but many are fighting against it. they are expected

a california sea lion that survived a shark attack now has a new home and a unique new name. "sharkbite" was just moved to live at six flags discovery kingdom in california after his rescue and rehabilitation. the sea lion was found last fall with a large bite wound from a great white shark. rescuers decided "sharkbite" would not be able to survive in the wild, so they moved him to the safe, forever home. a car fire closed an interstate and
