cycle picks up momentum in the tampa bay area today. that's because if you live in polk counties...today be able to go to the polls and cast your presidential primary. 10news reporter emerald, more and more people are taking advantage of the option to get their voting done early. - yeah, ian - here in hillsborough county, more than 34 thousand people have already cast their ballots by mail - and starting at 10 this morning...registered voters affiliated with a political party can come right here or to any of the other polling places to choose who they want to see run for president. - election officials have been preparing for the start of in- person, early voting since last week - and with all of the buzz around this year's election...they're expecting that the numbers will be up...especially with rubio in the race...and even trump, who considers florida a second home. - florida first started early voting in the state in the years after the 2000 election in response to the craziness that happened that year...and even though there are

this is one of those days that could really 'make or break' a few candidates...includi ng marco rubio. rubio and ted cruz are hoping to stop donald trump's momentum who has a strong lead heading into the most important day of the primary season. they are taking aim at trump for failing to condemn supportive comments from former klu klux klan leader david duke. butted to on the democratic side, hillary clinton campaigned in the south sunday, hoping to capitalize on her big win among black voters in south carolina. a cbs poll shows hillary clinton is ahead of bernie sanders in georgia, virginia and texas. an army staff sergeant who police say killed his wife and a police officer in a washington, dc suburb will be in court today.

guindon with the prince william county police department in guindon and two other officers were responding to a when officers say 32-year-old ronald hamilton shot and killed and wife and opened fire on police. the two other hospitalized for their injuries. suspect lived with 11-year-old son. the boy was also found unharmed in the home. the man who police say shot and will face a murder charge today. police say 70- year-old william schooler was shot while in his church office on sunday. they believe his brother...who is sitting in jail right now...was the shooter. they say the pastor was the only the shooting. as of right now, police don't know what the brother's motive was. officers say he has had a troubled and violent past. an investigation is morning to find out what caused a fire at a mobile home park in pasco county.

around 8 p-m sunday on bella bella lane in odessa. that's off chesapeake drive. thankfully, no one was hurt, but firefighters say two dogs died. fire investigators say the fire originally started in one mobile home then spread to two others. two of the three homes are destroyed. the third has minor damage. developing this morning, the cyber attack into the i-r-s is worse than initally thought. the federal agency says scammers gained access to more than seven hundred thousand accounts. that's more than double previously the information stolen includes data file a false tax return and collect a refund. the i-r-s mailed notifications to affected tax payers. big changes coming at a local school district after 10news reported on misconduct issues at the zephyrhills police department. today parents in zephyrhills will notice deputies at their children's schools instead of student resource officers. the city of zephyrhills and pasco county schools are ending

schools. now two corporals from the pasco county sheriff's office will serve as their school resource officers. it's happened again. you remember this cruise ship.. "anthem of the seas" which turned around before reaching port canveral earlier this month because of storm damage.. well the same ship is returning to its home port in new jersey once again. royal carribbean says the ship needed to turn around to avoid sailing into another major storm in the atlantic. there are also reports of a norovirus outbreak on board. the ship is expected back at cape liberty on wednesday morning. if you've lived in tampa bay for any amount of time.. you've seen your share of construction projects.. and now we're learning that might impact our environment. according to a recent study, tampa bay is one of the top 10 port cities, most effected by climate change. our partners at the tampa bay times say in addition to construction, our area is also at risk of property damage because of wind and coastal flooding from storm surges.

way to work this morning, you may want to fill up. get this: we're seeing the lowest gas prices during this time of year since 2004. experts say we usally see gas prices go up this time of year...because of seasonal refinery maintenance, which can lead to a reduction in supply. right now, the national average price for a gallon of gas is 1.75. the state's average sits at 1.74. in the bay area, the average nearly 10 cents lower at 1.65. if you checked out your facebook this morning...you've probably seen dozens of posts about the 88th academy awards show. it will be one to remember. before you head out the door...here are some of the big moments you missed. dicaprio won best actor. it was his 5th nomination but his first win. brie larson won best actress for her role as an abducted mother in "room." another big topic...chris rock's opening monologue all about the all- white nominees. the academy has recently taken several steps to diversify its membership, which is mostly white men. if you were howard frankland have noticed different...and it wasn't bumper to bumper traffic. the moving tribute to honor a fellow driver. but first a potentially dangerous rock slide is causing major problems on a popular tennessee interstate.

other headlines around the nation and the world in your 60 second scan... a man is expected to make a full recovery after falling 20 feet over a cliff in california. rescuers were able to lift the 31 year old man who fractured his leg to a nearby hospital. police say he was flying a helicopter when it crashed on the rocks below.. when the man went after it, he may have lost his footing. today.. a judge will consider throwing

against bill cosby. lawyers for cosby say dickinson has been giving different stories about her accounts with the comedian. she had sued cosby in may over his denial of claims she made that he drugged and raped her. she claims that he called her a liar which caused her to over the alleged 1982 incident out.. have been caputured in florida's month long hunt. but people from florida fish and wildlife say it still won't help control the state's invasive snake population. the longest snake caught was 15 feet.. that was by a hunting group from sarasota. more than a thousand people from 29 states took part in the hunt that ran from january 16 to february 14th. nearly 30 thousand cars and trucks take i-75 through campbell county, tennessee each day... but this rock slide has shut down a stretch of that interstate...causing major headaches for drivers. trees block the middle of the road and rocks are still falling. transportation officials say the
